Horse Falls in the Snow

We have had barbwire fences on our ranch for years.... at least 40, and have never had a horse hit it or get hung in it, have never had one hurt due to fencing.. And we raise horses, also I have seen a horse get hung in a "proper electric fence" and it destroyed all the nerves in its leg. So all fences have their flaws, stop telling people how they should have their property set up, its theirs not yours.

Barbed wire isnt suitable for horses at all.. the damage the wire causes is horrible... You should rly see to get it replaced with some proper electric fence.

Every time those horses ran near that barbed wire I tensed up! Is it safe? I don't know much about keeping horses but it looks too easy to catch themselves on it.

@GamerJamer No barbed wire is not safe for horses. Horses react differently to it than cattle. When a cow runs into it, they will move away from the poke, but when a horse runs into it, they will try to run through it and can easily cut themselves.

My heart stopped everytime a horse ran toward that awful barbed wire fence. GET RID OF IT BEFORE IT BECOMES A VERY SERIOUS AND EXPENSIVE INJURY!!! or, if you can bare to think, it could also cause enough dammage to kill your horse.

Barbed wire?!?!?!?! that is the worst kind of fence to use around horses if they get their leg tangled in it they could seriously damage their legs, and they could kill themselves in it! i am not exaggerating!!

That can happen with any wire fencing. Horses aren't dumb. they learn quickly where their boundaries are and stay away from the fence.

It snowed in england for the first time in about 10 years last week and my horse is only 4 so he's never seen snow. He was like your horses but I was riding him at the time!

hahaha my horse so did something like that one time. hes kinda old and none to graceful and it had just rained and he was goofing around with the other two horses we used to have and ended up falling on his butt. hahaha he got up and looked around like "did anyone see that? no? ok, good" hahaha it was fantastic.

Ya, so.I didnt say all horses evrytime they r in barb wire will get hurt.Its a strong possibility and wen they DO get caught in it its horrible. If its a leg usually the horse ends up tearing all the skin off just with one pull away. Not to mention the trama that would of occured to the muscle from the barbs.

We live in a destination area. Eight Farriers is a bit of an exageration. Since moving here, we have had an extremely difficult time finding a Farrier who's shoes stay on more than two weeks. We also had a Farrier that was rough with the horses. I will not stand for that.

i know people whos horses lived with a barbed wire fence for their entire life and never got a scratch. Then one of my friend's horses died when he reared up and flipped over. They had a board fence. All types of fencing are dangerous.

Ya'll need to leave her alone about the fence thing. It depends on the horses. Not all horses can have the same type of fencing. Because once they realize that the fence isn't strong and they can walk right through it, then they'll just keep doing that. But when you have barbed wire, and they get hurt just once, that'll be enough for them. They'll leave it alone.
