I think digital djing offers many benefits which is great, but the days of vinyl really separated good dj's from amazing dj's. Everyone with a laptop thinks they are a dj which waters the quality of good dj's down to a level which ruins its artform.

ok so here's my assumption. traktor made a new knotroller to be more like the s4 for all of those who have traktor pro, but missed out on the amazing s4 software and hardware. and the pro and s4 software update will have the rotating circle and color patterns on the track like serato. and for the record, traktor is better than serato. hands down...ha ha ha.
the main point is the new cpu with high quality solution of sound frequency , because the old audio devise "MACHXO" is going to fadeout....... as all people's thought. have u guy's ever thinking of the new interfaces can be used with different kinds of muliti-channel software such as Ableton, Logic, Pro-tools ......
when are we gonna get this new update? i got the S4 and im dying for the next big update with the more detailed waveforms - seems like it will be much easier to place beatgrids on those zoomed in waveforms than the current version

@mcclatchie1 dude - where have you been? the art of the vinyl dj died a long while back. If you think DJ'ing is about the medium or the purity of it, I think you're wrong. The DJ is the vessel, guide and medium to booty bouncing and that excitement/anticipation for what cut drops next. Just as in sculpture, clay or stone is simply the medium but without the sculptor, it's nothing.
how is colored waveforms an upgrade? Its something that should have first of all been Fundamental and secondly lesser software (no names) have had it as a staple of their software for years now.

i hope the waveforms are colored n have the ability to see them vertically side by side just like in Serato. As strange as it seem, it was the biggest reason why i didn't want to switch over
@NikoAlphonso its not going to happen. Traktor will not try to duplicate anything Serato has. I been a DJ for a long time, and to be honest with you, nothing comes close to Traktor. Especially if you know how to midi map.
I dumped Serato after having it a year. Traktor blows it out of the water hands down.
You can say all you want about Serato, Traktor is the shit. Period.

@READYdot they won't dump sync - most techno djs i know (because lets face it - that's what traktor's aimed at) swear by it because it allows you to spend more time bringing in other elements and using effects etc.. to be honest, clicking a button is much more useful than fiddling with a pitch fader..
@belchable so true but it also allows for less qualified people with lesser skills to flood the dj/club scene, now if your good i know that you will always stand out, but it will take longer because clubs will have to go through way more wannabe's until they get to you.

@belchable Hm, I'd fell useless behind the tables... we're doing effects and the rest without using sync... the new tools are aimed at having more time to do the rest IMHO. But it certainly depends on the mixing style, if you go live bootlegging or scratching you'll probably won't go without the Sync, but we're more traditional doing the classic tricks.
The video is to actually promote the new update for Traktor Scratch Pro. As you can see on the screen, there are 4 sample decks underneath each deck (like the Traktor S4 software has. Also there are colored waveforms and a new Native Instruments Audio 8 (the old Audio 8 doesn't look like that).
I didn’t know Traktor was ten years old, thought it had been around longer than that. I just started using Traktor around ten years ago.
What was being introduced in that video? I didn’t see anything, at least obviously not what I was supposed to see. I saw a party with DJ’s playing using Traktor but what ever I was supposed to see to get me excited in 2011 was lost to me in all that.
@IndieGeekProductions why would you want/need them if you weren't using turntables...? their whole purpose is to keep a track of the cuepoint on your vinyl.
I love my sl1210's, but it's not the only thing to deejay with, I am really looking forward to getting my DN-MC6000 and start playing around with the digital dj world :) I'm gonna use both, mostly because I can't sell my turntables, they are like my children.
But I am sure the MC6000 will be to.
Real dj's deejay because it's fun no matter the gear, not to "keep it real"!
theres nothing better then mixing with vinyl. but the creative opportunities that are possible with equipment like the s4 is just taking dj'ing to new heights. i have a kontrol s4 and it is just amazing. the possibilities are endless when you really start adding your own flavor to your mixes and taking full advantage of the power at your fingertips. plus you can pretty much find every track youve ever wanted in wav or mp3 format. its just a step in a new direction that was inevitable.
I love my turntables(vestax pdx-2000's) and will continue to use them
but i got the new Kontrol S4 and im loving it!
the only problem will be getting use to the jog wheels but the advantages far out way any problems
I can still use my turntables for scratching and for greater manipulation but having 8 sample desks for loops and one shoots and having fxs and this all in one unit i can carry around anywhere!SOLD!
@devote I must say though I appreciate my Technics, I think the PDX 2000's are the best turntables out, the most durable I ever got my hands on, I regret that I had to sell mine :(
I always thought the techs were way over priced for pretty much the name alone
they are amazing turntables. but to get pdx-2000's for 400$ instead of the 700$+ on a tech with no difference
was a no-brainer to me..sure i got tons of flak from every fucking dj around! but who the fuck cares cause i got a turntable with better specs..maybe im not in the 1200's club but i could give a fuck less...the only problems ive run into with the pdx is the feet(they fucked up on that one..lol)

Also, almost all hip hop and dance music is made on computer specifically for digital formats. music is actually downgraded in sound quality when transferred to vinyl during the mastering and manufacturing process. this is simple science. its not opinion.

Everyone is stuck on the software update but I think what you all missed is the new hardware that was showcased... I think this new controller could blow away the Traktor Kontrol S4. Look at those huge backlit jogs!!

@datspick I couldnt agree more on your comment however dj ing has a lot to do with timming, for example imagine playing at a decent sized club and during the build up you tweek the eq and at the last second drop the bass at the same time the beat drops imagine that moment and the bass dropping a second or two after you adjusted it, crowd resposnse still good but not the best or as good as it could have been.
as far as change im all for it, is this something I will loose sleep over I doubt it.

@belchable so true but it also allows for less qualified people with lesser skills to flood the dj/club scene, now if your good i know that you will always stand out, but it will take longer because clubs will have to go through way more wannabe's until they get to you.

@ptsound very much agreed - but i think if anything it's probably a positive because now, to fast track your way to djing success, you now have to be more creative to impress the punters. people don't tend to care *how* you do it on the whole, as long as it sounds good. just look at how musics flourished since production software's become readily available to the masses - yes there's plenty of shite, but the good stuff's really good!

@belchable Hm, I'd fell useless behind the tables... we're doing effects and the rest without using sync... the new tools are aimed at having more time to do the rest IMHO. But it certainly depends on the mixing style, if you go live bootlegging or scratching you'll probably won't go without the Sync, but we're more traditional doing the classic tricks.

The video is to actually promote the new update for Traktor Scratch Pro. As you can see on the screen, there are 4 sample decks underneath each deck (like the Traktor S4 software has. Also there are colored waveforms and a new Native Instruments Audio 8 (the old Audio 8 doesn't look like that).

I didn’t know Traktor was ten years old, thought it had been around longer than that. I just started using Traktor around ten years ago.
What was being introduced in that video? I didn’t see anything, at least obviously not what I was supposed to see. I saw a party with DJ’s playing using Traktor but what ever I was supposed to see to get me excited in 2011 was lost to me in all that.

I love my sl1210's, but it's not the only thing to deejay with, I am really looking forward to getting my DN-MC6000 and start playing around with the digital dj world :) I'm gonna use both, mostly because I can't sell my turntables, they are like my children.
But I am sure the MC6000 will be to.
Real dj's deejay because it's fun no matter the gear, not to "keep it real"!

theres nothing better then mixing with vinyl. but the creative opportunities that are possible with equipment like the s4 is just taking dj'ing to new heights. i have a kontrol s4 and it is just amazing. the possibilities are endless when you really start adding your own flavor to your mixes and taking full advantage of the power at your fingertips. plus you can pretty much find every track youve ever wanted in wav or mp3 format. its just a step in a new direction that was inevitable.

I love my turntables(vestax pdx-2000's) and will continue to use them
but i got the new Kontrol S4 and im loving it!
the only problem will be getting use to the jog wheels but the advantages far out way any problems
I can still use my turntables for scratching and for greater manipulation but having 8 sample desks for loops and one shoots and having fxs and this all in one unit i can carry around anywhere!SOLD!

they are amazing turntables. but to get pdx-2000's for 400$ instead of the 700$+ on a tech with no difference
was a no-brainer to me..sure i got tons of flak from every fucking dj around! but who the fuck cares cause i got a turntable with better specs..maybe im not in the 1200's club but i could give a fuck less...the only problems ive run into with the pdx is the feet(they fucked up on that one..lol)

What you see is the new Traktor Scratch Pro and a new soundcard interface that is possibly called “TA10″.
And with this update, there is almost no difference between Traktor Scratch Pro and the Traktor S4 software.

@t1mTV actually, no it doesnt. 320kb mp3's (the majority sold at dj centric stores), flac, or wav files. Also, almost all hip hop and dance music is made on computer specifically for digital formats. music is actually downgraded in sound quality when transferred to vinyl during the mastering and manufacturing process. this is simple science. its not opinion.

Everyone is stuck on the software update but I think what you all missed is the new hardware that was showcased... I think this new controller could blow away the Traktor Kontrol S4. Look at those huge backlit jogs!!

If your not embracing the change, thats all good. But dont bash something you never tried. just because there using laptops doesnt mean that theres no "real feeling" in djing. @datspick I couldnt agree more on your comment however dj ing has a lot to do with timming, for example imagine playing at a decent sized club and during the build up you tweek the eq and at the last second drop the bass at the same time the beat drops imagine that moment and the bass dropping a second or two after you adjusted it, crowd resposnse still good but not the best or as good as it could have been.
as far as change im all for it, is this something I will loose sleep over I doubt it.
