can you please tell me if teh only way to make this effect depth of field in this HV40 is by rolling down the manual focus ??...or there is another way to do it..
it depends where you get it from. the HV40 is the most expensive and can cost over 1k but look for it under £800. The HV30 is about £700 and is not all that diferent to the HV40. dont know about the HV20
sorry wasn't meant to be anything more than me fooling around the day i got the camera.
as much as i was heavy-handed with the focus wheel, it actually allows you to see how many times i had to turn it in this video to adjust the focus...so in that sense, maybe it's a plus.
yes, this video is awful but i hope it shows that capability of this camera w/o any accessories as far as depth of field goes.
I'm glad it helped. In retrospect I should've made a better one but I have better things to do, lol.
I didn't use a rain cover, actually, i was under cover where i filmed...BUT...I made one once cutting up a one gallon milk carton with a box cutter. Cheap and effective!
I never saw this video, dont worry about the blue phone - just call it will wake me, what happened to your daily blog ? :( I was loking forward to them.
I have an HV30 too. A good way to simulate a short depth of field is just standing far away from your subject and zooming in. It works, though there is some slight perspective distortion (far away objects seem closer than they are).
lol! i have the vixia hv30. love it. but i also have a sonny i got in 2004. i put an adapter on it. it is pretty impressive, though the standard def is over.
damn....so would u say its a good idea to buy an hv30? I'm buying a camera in a week...I have no camera exp but I want to maybe make some short films and stuff like that....what would be a decent camera under $1000?
HV30 all the way, very happy with my purchase, excellent camera, shoots in 30p, 24p, and standard 25p(of course lol) Has mic input, and a accessory shoot. Excellent buy.
How does the manual focus work on this camera? I'm thinking about buying this camera soon

I have a HV30. I hate the focus. I wish changing the focus on it was more like a GL2 with a ring.

hey man. this is auto focus and maunual. and DOF is not something that is a technic really, it depends on your camera.

hv20/30/40 they are all the same... the only diff is just the (lcd screen is more vibrant in hv30/40) ,
hv30 has 30p and hv40 (they say that has 24 native) instead of 24f.. heh gimmick..
they are all great.. and provide awesome image clarity... I had the hv20 sold it and got 30 ... with 550$ on amazon :)

It's just a field test, they weren't trying to be entertaining. It clearly shows the depth of field. ...exactly what I wanted to know about.

"Stupid" is spelled with an "i", you dumb-ass. You must be the "stupid" one.
This video was functional and informative, not for entertainment.

so, this is a depth of focus test without a depth of field converter? Just the camera lens alone?

bee here - I have an hv30, too! I'm sending my hv20 to Leigh tomorrow for some collabo stuff we have going on on this channel.
Yeah, the adapter really takes these consumer cams to the next level and makes them way more "film like" (ugh).

Hv30 is completely compatible with the Mac. Just check the canon(dot)com website, and it should have the specifications.
