  • A mere child of 53, I've never seen this before, but I've never forgotten CLAUDE'S unmistakable voice from literally dozens of 1960s commercials for the Marx Toy company. I've always wondered who that was, and now I know. Do a video search for "by Marx" to hear Claude vividly pitching classic toys like the Big Wheel, the Electro-shot Shooting Gallery, and RockEm Sockem Robots!

  • As a 10 years old, I was in the audience to see a live performance of Super Circus at the Chicago Civic Opera House.

  • where is terry tune circus? was I dreaming this as a kid?

  • Great to see this once again and in such good quality - great job Ira! Mary Hartline - I'd forgotten all about her - amazing!!

  • I loved this show as a kid - this post brings back wonderful memories - skipper

  • Does anyone remember Herb Sheldon, the original host of "Wonderama" on Sunday mornings, before Sonny Fox?

  • yes hes on my site

  • Oh God Ira - I should have known!!!! "Bio Days, Bio Nights!" Wow!!!

  • Dear Mr. Gallen, thank you.

  • This brings me back, along with Stubby Kay and Sonny Fox, does anyone remember Arthur Arrowroot?

  • What id like to see is Terrytoon Circus with Clownie from WOR-9 NYC, thats the one i remember the best. It was on till 1962, at 7;00 till 7;30 pm .

  • they dont exixt. sorry. claude was a great guy

  • One day on the bus, I overheard a woman talking to her friend. It was Claude Kirschner's wife! I went over to her and told her he had been a part of my childhood. She was very moved by this.

  • Thats a wonderfull story, was it in NYC ? Terrytoon Circus was one of my favorites. Ive read his daughter ,has Clownie and Mr, Kirchners original ringmaster outfit. I m hoping she will post some pictures for us old kids that thought the world of her father.

  • It sure was in NYC - on the Fifth Avenue bus, about three or four years ago. Nice story about his old memorabilia. Remember "Uncle Fred Scott" and Bugs Bunny cartoons, followed by Sandy Becker's Looney Tunes on WNEW-5!!! (6-7 PM), then "Terrytoon Circus" at 7!! LOL.

  • Yes, 7 pm ,WOR 9 , Terrytoon Circus, im sure its where i watched , Spunky and Tadpole cartoons ..

  • LOL!!! Funny, but I don't remember Spunky and Tadpole at all, or any of the other cartoons for that matter, though obviously they were Paul Terry's. I guess I was all Looney-Tuned out after 'Uncle Fred Scott' and Sandy Becker. Oh - remember "Million Dollar Movie" on WOR-9 - the same movie all week!! Great memories, ay!

  • I remember all that stuff, in the morning i watched , Farmer Grey, Sandy Becker, and then Topper. Saturdays i remember, Annie Oakley, Fury, Sky King, The Lone Ranger with Tonto, Lassie , Jeffs Collie, and TONS of cartoons. After school i watched Soupy Sales, Captain jack , Chuck McCann , Sandy Becker. Officer Joe Bolton with the Stooges and Dick Tracy. and alot more.

  • Oh man; ditto here - too many to list, but you forgot "Circus Boy!" We were obviously tuned into the same shows, but I'm five years older than you. What's MY excuse!! LOL. I just saw your comment under a "Soupy Sales" clip, and we both questioned the date - whether it was 1962 or 1965.

  • Its 1965 WNEW 5 NYC Soupy. I watched these shows way to long. The last one i remember is Officer Joe Bolton hosting Felix cartoons, outlasting most of our old hosts around 1970 or 71. Used to live in Bellerose/ Glen oaks Queens.

  • Good for you mate! I thought it was 1965 too, but of course, couldn't be sure. I loved Soupy's early 60s (first discovered him in 1961 on Sat. morning) when Clyde Adler was still on. Mid-60s, in NYC, he was on in the afternoon. Cheers - have a good week!

  • @chalomirof63 you fucking pussy you spam and then block user?

im gonna post that message all over the youtube so everyone knows who you really are LOL LOL

  • @1952kid I remember Officer Joe when he would show the Little Rascals. I was from Queens too, in Ridgewood.

  • @fcourt5 Yes,good old Officer Joe Bolton, swinging his night stick. Those were really special days, . Did you watch Terrytoon Circus with Clownie? Somewhere around 1964 we got all the Japenese cartoons, Astroboy , Gigantor , 8THMan , Amazing 3 , Kimba . And a big one from back then, Sandy Becker .I also remember playing with Duncan tops and yoyo's.

  • I was born in 1952 and at 4 or 5 have a few memories of this show, but i remember the later show Terrytune Circus the best with Clownie on WOR 9 in NYC. I think it was on 7pm till 7;30pm.

  • I want to go back in time. (:(

  • it's stuff like super circus that make me love youtube.....baby boomer

  • Boy, oh, boy! Does this bring back memories! I got a Mary Hartline doll for Christmas back in those days. I wish I still had her, she worth a lot more now! Thanks for posting this video!

  • Man, that clown reminds me of Pennywise...Be afraid of him!!! Otherwise, I fondly remember ol' CK...and his show...I am 55, and watched it Always, as a kid...

  • Dear Ira, With all due respect..The Chicago,Ill. cast of

ABC TV's "Super Circus"didn't do the show into

June,1956. The producers and network execs dropped the

Chicago,Ill. cast and replaced them with Jerry

    Collona,Sandy Wirth and Jerry Koslowski.

  • Dear Bigeman,

Mr.Kichner's last name is spelt Kirchner..not

    Kirschner.

  • I remember watching Claude Kirschner's TerryToon Circus in NYC.

This show I guess was a bit too early for me .I was born in 1951.

  • I think this was on Dumont in NY, i.e. ch.5

  • If you viewed the entire video, you can see this program was on ABC. Would you recognize or remember the network's "American Eagle" logo at the time? They had that until they changed to the lower case A logo in the fall of 1956. Actually, this show was from 1954.

  • WXEL (now WJW-TV) in Cleveland, which was coaffiliated with ABC and DuMont at the time, carried the full hour of Super Circus as I remember. To this very day, I relate Mars Candy bars to the show.

  • Yes, this is the second half of an hour-long show {5:30-6pm(et)}, sponsored by Mars, Inc., the makers of Snickers and 3 Musketeers candy bars. "SUPER CIRCUS" was always split into two segments, one per sponsor, which gave ABC affiliates the option of carrying one or both halves of each show. This is actually from around 1954...

  • Sounds like Cliffy the Clown introduced the second half of the show. I watched the show in the early 50s as a little squirt, and I believe the second half was announced by the announcer as follows: "And now, once again, it's Super Circus."
