  • iadoremanga! You have said that for the sake of saying it! The Director is the same and the films are Identical.

  • @nothingness36 Considering you can't spell "idiot", that's pretty hypocritical mate.

  • One of the most overlooked films ever. I think everyone has to watch this movie. even if you dont like it you have to respect it. its amazing. throws cinema on its head

  • did they really kill a dog for this movie?

  • @allanseeder This aint no cannibal holocaust, they didn't kill nothing.

  • @allanseeder are you serious? they never ACTUALLY kill in movies. wtf?

  • @ClassicCoolProd Cannibal Holocaust and Cannibal Ferox have actual animal torture and killing in them so you are quite wrong about that.

  • ^^ Arno Frisch ^^

  • HOLY SHIT!!!! DID NOT EXPECT THAT!! FUKING HELL

  • I love this movie. The first time I watched it I laughed and was terrified at the same time. I really want this movie. Michael Pitt is one amazing actor in this film.

  • :OOO HE KILLED THE DOGGEH!

  • Comment removed

  • This movie is so fuckin funny.

  • I fuckin loved this movie(;

  • original is WAY better

  • @iadoremanga How is the original way better? This is a shot-for-shot remake

  • @UFfan85 a film isn't just about shots. You also take sound, lighting and ACTING into account.

In the original it's made more realistic by the people portraying the bad guys.

  • @UFfan85 its not in english tho and the same writer and director made the both

  • what was the song in the end?

  • @Kakuzu09265 You And Me And The Devil Makes 3 by Marilyn Manson.

  • @brkdwnxx Oh, blow it out your ass.

  • Wow, you can kill a defenseless animal, you're tough. Fucking little pussy faggot.

  • @SoxMan76 look out everyone

    tough guy here

  • I'm not a tough guy, dude. I don't kill defenseless animals.

  • @SoxMan76 jeez calm down im just saying your complaining about someone killing a dog in a movie, and i agree with u when u say this movie is shit, i hated it its possibly one of the worst movies ive ever see.

  • @SoxMan76 its a movie buddy..

  • @Jack0fClubs Really, buddy? You're

    kidding me.

  • This movie was done brilliantly, and both male leads play their roles perfectly. Michael Pitt is genius...that guy is so talented. And a hot sexy beast. I love everything about this movie. If you're creeped out good, that means the actors did their job.

  • This movie is shit.

  • I'll admit the ending was a bummer, but it was sort of a break from traditional movie making in that way. And come on, that last shot? Insane. Creeped the shit out of me, I can't imagine it ending any differently

  • what. the. FUCK?!

  • its creepy when characters know that theyre in a movie or a game and they connect with the audience by talking to them

  • @deadandbloated12345 thats the whole point..to make the audience uncomfortable with violence...which movies usually do not!...excellent movie in my opinion

  • I've just seen the movie and I'm shocked with all of it. But I hate the ending (call me some trash eater).

  • whats the song at the end

  • oh yes! when i first saw this i was DYING... i looove creep ass movies!

  • that dog looks real

  • well i agree some scenes drag on a little more than they need to, but still thats what a suspense movie is, waiting thru long parts but knowing shits about to go down.

  • I lol everytime he turns and talks to us through the screen.

  • Poor dog =[ but i lol'd

  • hahahahaha lmao the guy is so fucking badass.

  • ya he is

  • This is a shot for shot remake of an Austrian film by the same director, thought you should know that...

  • This is an incredibly ignorant statement. you obviously have shitty taste in films if you think all "gringo" films are predictable, probably owing to the fact that you've only watch shitty American films. Kubrick, Allen, Coppola, Cameron, Coen Bros, all American . Also, I'm not american I can just tell the diff. between crap Hollywood churns out for profit and works of art meant for people that appreciate film .

  • Maybe Kubrick and Allen may agree with you but the rest.. (Cameron? Titanic) please..

  • @salarki Godfather, Apocalyspe Now? Are you kidding me? and as for Cameron, the lesser of the folks i mentioned, Terminator, Aliens, and Avatar have all been pretty seminal in their own genres and in their own ways. whether they appeal to your personal taste for films is besides the points, and the fact that he's grossed more than any other directors speaks for itself. I'm not gonna argue that anything which makes money automatically merits respect, but his work , by and large, does.

  • @adreanix Ah, actually it would be better to go by ticket sales. Avatar sold in 3D, which costs more per ticket, as well as the fact that tickets these days are so damn expensive. I think it's Black Beauty in 1st and Star Wars in second.

  • Rofl is an exact remake of a 1997 Austrian movie, dumbass

  • did i mention it was also the same writer/director... salarki=dumbass

  • was that dog real??????it looked fucking real!!

  • Its hard for me to see a dog die or get toturred, I got two dogs myself, wich I love...anyway this movie is really good and evil.

  • I know exactly what you mean. I hate this scene :-(

  • if i was the young 6 or 8 or 10 year old that i was(no more)

i would be deeply shocked my this part

    i would cry.

  • wats the song at the end of the video?

  • You and me & the devil makes 3 by Marilyn Manson

  • i love this movie sooooo much (i have to say that first) BUT i do have one thing to say against it - it's pretty predictable

i'm talking about the fate of the dog, and when anna gets captured again by the 2nd car that drives by (after she runs off to get help). BUT they were still really good moments

  • i personally liked the movie, yes it was slow and drawn out in some parts, for example in one clip we literally watched the female character struggle to stand up when bound for 10min lol. but honestly, i LOVE horror movies and believe that every horror movie is good and deserves credit for ingenuity

  • i'd really like to see this movie but i just can NOT stand animal violence, as minimal as it is. sad :(

  • it only happens once, and you don't see what's inflicted upon the dog

  • now im MAD their killed a DOG I HOPE THEIR DIE IN THE MOVIE :P

  • well your in for a BIG suprise :)

  • isn't tim roth british? or am i muddled because he starred on 'made in britain' ..most who dislike this are probably confused by the fact that a movie doesn't need to have unicorns or fantasy characters to be fictional, the director has u caught out and u cant change it, thats your problem cos it isnt ur plot and no matter wat u want to ''personally'' change u wont get the same satisfaction of (the good guy winning) because it isnt ur story!

  • No, maybe YOU are confused.

Whether you like it or not, people are going to have their own personal opinions about things for their own good reasons.

  • proves the point of my opinion lol

  • This movie was as much trash as it was torture to its viewers. It was a very slow, dense, aimless attempt to create an apparent work of theatrical "art" [yeah, right]. The '97 version did not need a remake- it was already painstakingly as boring as the original, and America could have lived without it. Needless to say, if I had wanted to watch a [perfectly] detailed version of this garbage, I would have re-rented the original.

  • Alternatively, don't bother watching at all & just stick 'HOSTEL' on the DVD player again. Seriously, you'll have a better time. Honest.

  • To those that can't get past 'its too slow..not the dog!..shit Misery...why's he looking at the camera?' & so on. Michael Haneke is a well respected director in Europe (deservedly so) for his intelligent, challenging, thought provoking films. SAW, BRIDE OF CHUCKWIT or whatever is not in the remit. So do yourself a favour if you're going to watch one of his films, & engage your brain. Realising SLASH GASH ON A PLANE TO KRUGERVILLE isn't what you're going to get will avert disappointment.........

  • Rogue351, hollywood had shit all to do with this remake in the sense you refer to. Do yourself justice & research the premise of the 1997 original film and the US market remake. Michael Haneke is the director and the writer. Google him at least before you make random comments that have no basis. Cheerio!

  • People might hate this movie but i thought it was fantastic and im only 15 i thought michael pitt did a great job of playing a clean cut psycho so if liking this movie makes me a psycho then my friends i'm a true psycho. Love the couch scene one of my favorite scenes

  • Comment removed

  • the movie was trying to send you a message about violence with all of those parts were michael pitt acts like he knows your watching them. They're basically saying "you the audience, are fucked up for watching this" this movie would have been in my all time favorites if it wasnt for those parts

  • The ending of this movie totally threw me off. I loved it.

  • can nayone tell me how watch the full movie? on here?

  • they have the original but its not in English. but i think it was captions and its on Cinemax this month

  • why does the actor look at the camera, on the film, is there friend filming it or somethin?

  • Because its like if we(the audiance) were part of the game

  • Vovals?

  • The Original(1997, Germany) is far better!!!

  • i thought it was supposed to be the exact same, but with american actors instead?

if that's the case, forget subtitles, i love this one.

  • it's not german it's austrian

  • It's a shot-for-shot remake by the original writer/director. The single difference is that it's in english. How can either one be "better"?

  • unusual film. Enjoyed it. it frustrated me at times with the rewinding and the hopelessness of the whole thing. You feel down throughout the film but ultimatley it turned out to be really just weird and fascinating now that I think about it. I wanna see the original too.

  • Lol, this trailer is the funniest.

Lucky it was just the dog.

    Fer now.

  • i want to see this movie

  • me too

  • Omg amazing actors. You just cant compare the leage these american actors are in to the germans. God Paul in this is much more terrifying.

  • Arno Fisch makes a much more menacing Paul..

  • this movie was good till the remote scean other than that good movie 3/5

  • The whole point of the film was meant to be that it was just pointing out the amount of violence in the media and that Paul always broke the fourth wall in order to go along with film convention.

  • agreed. As a convential story it made little sense, but when taken as a commentary on desensitivity to violence, disregard of the innocent, etc. it is quite effective and very chilling.

  • yeah its exacly the same thing. But this one has better acting and better image :) lol

  • Perfect use of Manson's You And Me And The Devil Makes Three.

  • this movie was fucked up.

  • I LOVE GAMES AHAH :) ...OH CRAP Dog Dies. :(

  • this movie and the original movie wif the german actors are very well haneke makes brilliant movies ! :)

  • What I really enjoyed about the film was the way the killers were treated. Their cold, logical sadism was disarming and had a certain humor to it. For example, the running gag about the eggs was a great touch. The editing could've been much tighter, but it still defied my expectations.

  • Its the truth... and nothing but the truth, right Georgie?

  • The main aim is to cause the audience to question themselves about what entertains them.

The talking directly to the camera, the rewind bit and the fact the violence occurs off screen are for a reason. To make you think...

Were you disappointed you didn't see the kid die?

Do you really want the family to fight back?

If you watched it and were annoyed the family didn't "win" in the end or fight back, the film did its job and highlighted the fact many viewers enjoy violence and torture.

  • well said u hit the nail on the head

  • did u think the acting was better in this or in the original?

  • I actually think this one has better acting. They seem much more realistically upset in the remake. In the original, the kid almost seems like he doesn't care. Paul and Peter made me laugh more in the remake too :D

  • The one thing i hated was that in the original the guy was actually tubby, but in the remake he wasnt really fat at all so when the guy called him tubby it just made no sense

  • Yeah I noticed that too. Still a pretty awesome film.

  • I hated this movie, but it wasn't for the intended reasons.

"Were you disappointed you didn't see the kid die?"

No, this was the best scene in the film. The guy calmly finishing making his sandwich after the gun shot, the audience guessing who got shot, then the shock/ horror of finding it was the kid.

"Do you really want the family to fight back?"

Didn't care enough about the characters to give 2 shits.

  • Contd...

It can be easy to make the audience feel tense, as long as the actors are good enough. This movie proves that all it takes is long drawn out scenes and uncomfortable conversations. That's all this movie was. The only thing it had going for it, was the acting.

I would rate this movie along side The Blair Witch Project - a decent idea, but poorly executed.

  • It was more than a thriller. The family has no heroic moment, underscoring the pointlessness of it all, and the audience's wish to see the victims squirm, making them feel "guilty" about indulging in violence in entertainment.

  • 1st time I saw that, I almost cried. xD

  • so?

  • haha i saw this movie in paris i wantit to come out already i want to buy it.

  • LOVE

  • its a freaking twist! i wanted it to continue! they should make a sequle!

  • this was a film condeming our appetite for violence, he was trying to say that its because of our need for our films to be more and more violent that films are becoming more and more violent. and u want a sequel? u didnt get the point of this movie at all did u?

  • Someone please ruin it for me!(tell me the ending)

  • as always, they all die

  • Even the killers??

  • no. they pic the next victim 2 minutes after the first family is finished :)

  • o wow

  • theres not a lot going through ur head really is there?

  • you dont make sense

  • well i imagine theres a lot of things that dont make sense to u

  • Why so mean??

  • i dont know, 1.because i was beaten as a child? 2.because my parents divorced? 3.becuase im bored. pick one and if u get it right ill give ya a surprise

  • Seriously thats your own problem and im not going to waste my time with you anymore so peace!

  • hey u asked

  • This actor is no Arno Frisch! Arno is much cuter!

  • i hate when there are parts in this movie when he talks to the audience or even looks at us! i want to kill him! but then, i remember its just a movie. lol

  • AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!

  • it makes fun of horror movies, movies in general, stupidass stories of villains and heroes, society, culture, and us watching the damn thing - great movie

it was.. uh.. they exist in cyberspace in an alternate reality, well, the family, not him - and we don't really exist, well you exist but I don't... lol, awesome movie :]

  • about the remote scene, what paul does is called, "braking the fourth wall" barely any movies do it. or shows for that matter, but in my view, it made it just a bit more intresting..

  • ok ok that was creppy like hell

pore dog it oviosly a fake but still

    creppy o 0

  • you people really need to think deeper. the "magical" remote was put in the movie to fool you into thinking the family was going to get some justice. It was made to toy with the audiance who normally feels compassion for the victims in some cases and hopes they get away. the remote was simple to rewind shit and be a basic fuck you to the audiance and nothing is going to really happen like you hoped. good vs evil. its a brilliant move. evil always wins. basically. nothing happens as it should.

  • I'd say Funny Games has real people (Paul and Peter) in a fictional family, so that's why the remote control scene and such happens :/ I'm probably wrong but that's one way I look at this film. I liked it by the way...:)

  • Yes I also do not understand the part with the Remote scene. He just rewinds back time and it has nothing to do with the movie.

  • Er, it has to do with the fact that we had hope for the family then, but then it goes when he rewinds it and shows that the family are not getting away with easily.

  • Like the original so as the remake there both good just give it a lil bit chance

  • the original film is perfect but i hate the fucking remake because in the remake you cant hear the fear in the voice of the family

  • Grr. You guys theyre are many reasons for that. How they talked about stupid hollywood endings and how they are fake and they talk about in the boat how theyre are different blackholes and things that may or may not be real. It's just a part of the movie oh and btw it was a great movie 5/5

  • I loved the movie, but yes, I hated the remote part too, it made no sense to be in the movie. But a lot of the movie didn't make sense.I also didn't like how they're was obvious ways for the family to escape, and they never did. But, it was really good.

  • what the fuck u guy didnt got the point of that remote scene ? lol the 2 bad 'badguys' talked about the importance of entertainment and that the viewer shouldn't be bored by gayass hollywood happy endings... so the keep the guys keep the show

  • dude this movie kicks ass i actully recomend watching it ( i usuly hate movies like this) youll lovw it i watched it last night

  • remote part was omg stupid

  • remote part? what happened

  • well his friend dies, and out of NO WHERE he jsut gets a remote and rewinds the scene, making his friend not dead. And there was NOTHING leading to the remote part, it had nothing to do with anything

  • how the hell, doese that happen in the orginal? those that mean everything is a movie? WTF?

  • yeah, it was in the original too, that's the thing that makes funny games different from another horror/thriller film, the humor, and the impossibility of some scenes

  • you got to be kiding me, a magical remote?

  • that's not a normal movie, paul breaks the fourth wall several times and the remote scene explains you that the family won't have any chanche... it's a bit weird but i like it

  • that's b.s, I always want to see killers die or get killed by the victims- that's how scary movies usually work.

  • yeah mee too, then strange thing in this film is that this doesn't happen... poor families :P

  • going away from the normal way things work, also works

  • YEs I also found that part very weird, and also very stupid. It has nothing to do with the movie.

  • yes it does cuz when they ask what he actuly used the golf club for he wanted them to find out on there own

  • (SPOILERS: PLEASE DON'T READ UNLESS YOU'VE SEEN IT!)

    I loved this movie, seriously...

up to the point of the remote control scene...

    It was just ridiculous.

I cheered when the wife shot the guy,

but WTF... the rewind? and the changing of the scene! Okay, it was "film art" but it pretty much ruined the movie for me. I turned it off after a minute after the scene. Made me so mad!

  • HAHA I didn't like that scene either. I thought my remote was messed up. I paused it and was tripping out thinking "Why is it rewinding?"

Yeah, you can imagine how stupid I felt afterwards...

  • Original is WAY better.

Actors, accents, and just the fact that this movie, made in 2008, has NO meaning and is a rather useless film.

  • But isent it bringing the austrian film to a mainstream audience,

I certainly dident know about the austrian version before this one,

Exept mabey it doesent belong to a mainstream audience...

  • good point...
