  • This recording was made on a Friday because the next day I got married July 12, 1958. that's was 53 years ago, 2012 time has went by.

  • damn. never knew trane recorded stardust. thanks for the post.

  • I've been listening to the great Coleman Hawkins and this Trane take of Stardust. There are a number of great tenors, but none like Coltrane.

  • I get the shiver everytime I hear this.. It's so warm.. I could sit and do nothing and just listen to this all day

  • thank you for the upload

  • instead of a coffee, tea, scotch, or chair and what not try this. have a tab of lucy and let time melt away to this...

  • Saint John

  • Well I base this on Coltrane can use 5 to 7 note and use them in a 3 to 5 minute solo (not to say he don't use other notes) tell me who else can do that.

  • Thanks for posting - I was not familiar with Wilbur Harden...He has a good touch and makes a good combination with John Coltrane. And thinking of a rhythm section with Red Garland, Paul Chambers and Jimmy Cobb gives me a smile too.

  • Doesn't get much better than this

  • awesome painting at 8:40! Who made it?

  • Like I said before If you find a better sax man let me know. I doubt you will.

  • @WonderfulWil1 I think a few people would say Charlie Parker and Lester Young to name but a few. That isn't to say that Coltrane is one of the best, just that he isn't "the" best. There is no "best". It is, among other things, a matter of taste. Chacun a son gout.

  • How smooth can it get? SO nice! And a bowed bass solo. Love it!

    ---DebbSaxx

  • Freddie Hubbard trumpet John Coltrane tenor sax Red Garland piano Paul Chambers bass Art Taylor drums ...

  • john is beautiful man

  • This is my first time actually pursuing jazz, and I must say, it is amazing. This would be my first time hearing this song, or anything like it, for that matter, and yet I was able to hum along. I could feel the music, no exaggeration.

  • now this is talent.as a 14 year old heavy metal musician, this stuff goes down on my list of inspirations!

  • Amazing!!! Truly beautiful!!!

  • A masterpiece never forgotten

  • OMG!! This is a classic!! =) LOVE IT!!

    Thanks SO much for posting!!

  • can somebody tell me where the art came from?

  • @gusvegeta123 Shedding.

  • @musicmanson by 'shedding' u mean playing and playing and pulling out whats down deep inside of you over and over until you finally learn how to play whats inside of you?

  • @leftpuman That's exactly what I mean.

  • To recognize genius in others, one must let go of so much pride in self...Coltrane is nothing less than a grandmaster. His genius is...exquisitely expressed in his play. Play on man, play on...

  • This version inspired my dad's version I heard him play all through my growing up. No one even came close to this version until Barry Manilow who does it EXACTLY like my dad....

  • nice

  • Db is the best key ever!!!!

  • I love the artwork. Who is the painter?

  • oh Baby is all I can say.

  • West Liberty Tri-state Select Honor Jazz Ensemble

  • i love i love i love i love i love i love i love i love coltrane!!!!

  • absolutely love this.

  • thanks a lot for posting this wonderfull song...

  • otra vez tres desubicados :(

  • Has me soooo, in the zone right now... Drink in one hand n smoke in the other, dim the lights !

  • @SecretDudeGuyPerson That has to be the most pathetic attempt at trolling I've ever seen. And I've seen some pretty awful trolls.

  • @GelatinousYam wtf is trolling?

  • @MrCIMASTUDENT Saying something solely to get a negative reaction. Which is exactly what you were doing.

  • @SecretDudeGuyPerson... You're absolutely right!!! If safe, bland, easy, simple, and bad is what you like.

Don't get me wrong, I know KG can really play if he wants to. It's just not how he made his name.

  • I just listened to Django and Hawk play this, and I can hear Hawk in Trane...

  • jams

  • who the hell would dislike this!??!!

  • We all should listen to more of John Coltrane's Music

  • Pour me a scotch, get me a leather back chair, turn down the lights, and let time and space melt away.

  • @lancasterII Im there in that mode right now !

  • @lancasterII I gotcha on that one. I'm about to pour a Merlot. : )

  • @lancasterII with a pipe!

  • @lancasterII. SIngle malt Glenmorangie!10 years

  • There's always one idiot.

  • many thanks for this sharing; just wonderful ...Coltrane forever !!

  • So, so awesome! Thanks so much for posting this.

  • SO GOOD

  • after playing - take a deep breath, exhale, enjoy the tune, and life ;)

  • Aaahhh....listening to this makes me so grateful of the human spirit and helps remind me of the beauty it can bring to this world. Thanks, Mr. Cotrane

  • silence please.....the perfection is working...

  • thanks my favorite for all my life from the first time I heard of jazz I think I was fourteen years old and that was it for me a life time of Mr. John Coltrane

  • Great song, is there something better to start the night?

  • wilber is buttery like a mthrfckr

  • Wow where is that image from? it makes such a good visual representation for improv music

  • I hope somewhere in Heaven he realizes how much he's loved. THE most sincere, honest musician, absolutely no bullshit or ego. Every time I hear him play a ballad like this I use a box of Kleenex. He is absolutely my hero.

  • benny Golson is still kickin' Heribe is still kickin' Rufus Reid is still kickin' Mccoy is still kickin (I saw him at Catalina's in LA; he was modded out). Fuck I wish I could hear Trane and the boys like they were then!!!

  • cool song

  • This IS jazz... imagine hearing this live

  • @putput00 I know right....

  • WONDERFUL!

  • talk about TONE THIS is TONE

  • talk about TONE

  • I COULD HAVE THIS FOR BREAKFAST TEA AND SUPPER ANY DAY OF THE WEEK .

  • Masterpiece. Amazing.

  • In this clip, John Coltrane, with the rhythm section of the Miles Davis Quintet, offers his rendition of Stardust, with Wilbur Harden filling the trumpet chair....

  • @MikeNichols50 - Never heard of Wilbur Harden - the guy has a great tone - wow!

  • Paul Chambers' sound is very unique!

  • @xatzidakis - "Mr. P.C.", as Coltrane called him, was one of the greatest bassists in jazz history...his arco soloing was fantastic...required listening for all true jazz lovers.
