A good understanding of Hinduism would never lead a person away from it. It's not a religion as much as it is a philosophy. Who says Buddhism is wrong? No one, because it just sets guidelines on life, not rules or faith. I'm not saying Islam is wrong, but I'm saying a person can be both Hindu and Muslim. Moving away from Hindu *religion* is fine...I have done the same. I don't believe in all these myths, but there's nothing to "disbelieve" about a philosophy.

@hollumber Quran 5:3 was the last verse revealed to the prophet ... it talks about the religion being completed, note that the beginning of the religion starts before human kind was even created.

Well many people call themselves arab, basically arab means bedouin/traveller/rustic/nomad­. Hindu, is in reference to the Indus river, the river Sindu that is in pakistan today. It was the greeks, then persians, then arabs, but it was the Britishers who made the term hinduism, wiki it.

No, Vedantists call it Sanatana Dharma. Islam didn't grow out of Christianity. Muhammad was not a christian, or someone who knew the bible.

You can call islam the eternal law, but not sanatana dharma, because this term is specific to hinduism. If you were to say you believe in "sanatana dharma," most people who recognized the term would think you are hindu.

@hollumber No... there is only one religion What you consider different religions, were the same religion at different stages of development. God sent messengers to different nations and tribes. The term "eternal law" tells us that it is open, and not yet been completed. It's not been given a single term name. Yes because of it being sanskrit, it's particular to those who could understand sanskrit. But times have changed, the verses have mentioned of this.

@hollumber Let me explain it a different way. In a computer program, as it develops... you have beta, and versions. During one version (S. dharma etc) of the program, it has certain tools (Veda etc). Later on it's updated (Gita). And this goes on until it's finally completed as much as the programmer wanted it to be. Of course sometimes, the beta versions are tested out on one type of computer system (hindus), and then another type (Semites) and so on to check for errors/refinement.

@hollumber It cannot apply to hinduism, because hinduism was not a term in the Sanskrit texts. Sanatana Dharma can only apply to those people who spoke Sanskrit. But also in the texts it will tell us who it's for. But ultimately, if you read the Gita from beginning to end and then the quran even in translation, you'll get of the message. No no, if it was like that then we'd already by like the angels who can only obey God

To make understandable to low grade ppl our sages ahve made the rightegious in the form of stories (i.e puranas). All west ppl are converting to hindusim but unfortuantely our ppl are converting into other religious. please be sure before making any descision.

@venkat9711 Be reassured, that if I am to switch to any religion, it would most-likely be Hinduism. However, because I was raised Hindu, I would be wrong to believe in it without evidence. I know that many sages were quite smart, and discovered much in the fields of math and astronomy, however, I cannot believe their theories of the universe as a whole, unless someone can explain them and provide evidence as well.

I have read much about Hinduism, and I like it's philosophy, but I cannot accept all of its ideas without proof. And (according to Hinduism) you only sin when you think you sin. I do not think I am sinning by rejecting Hinduism (along with other religions), so this sin won't be with me "for many births."
