Start off with Fruityloops if you wanna start making electronic music. If you get more serious buy Ableton, Reason or Cubase (or Logic/Pro-Tools).  You don't even need hardware but its always nice.

@DrJohnsonMD They use synths. If you want to make same sounds you may try all the korg and arturia plugins or search on ebay for instruments witch these plugins emulate (much more expensive choice). Most used synths that sounds similar are from 80's models of roland, korg, yamaha but they are no longer in commerce. Search for ARP2600, CS-80, Minimoog, Odyssey, roland D-50, etc... Check also retrosound on youtube witch have lot of old synths videos. Also, at 5:10 video shows a roland
