tomservo got it right: the show Ann Marie was in was based on "Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In" and in a bizarre twist ABC tried to do it with "Turn On" and it flopped!

I don't know why "Ms.Ann Marie"(Ms.Thomas)finds pie throwing so unfunny..I grew up watching people get hit with pies and I find it funny.And I've been hit with pies and I find it funny too.

@TheStanbabe Presumably because Ann Marie wasn't sure what this would do for her career.. this was expected to become a running blackout gag for the LAUGH-IN style show-within-a-show on which she was appearing. It might have affected her chances for other opportunities to become known as "That Pie Girl".
