It would have been fun to have a Jack Paar-esque moment, "let's see...as I was saying before" to thumb a nose at CBS who canned the show, just to have it return and return in most markets to its old 4pmET timeslot.
The biggest problem with this version was that in syndication, episodes were bicycled from station to station, so while this was the first week taped, this may have been the 3rd week shown in Chicago, the 7th week shown in San Diego, etc., etc. That limited returning champs and forced some tighter editing so Friday would always end with a bonus game.
@Ilovelucyclassics that woman in the red dress is Eva Gabor and I'm her #1 biggest diehard fan and I also am the biggest diehard fan of Lucy. Check out my other channel here, my username is LucilleBallFan2
At some point the show changed in re to more editing, the lights are brighter, and the atmosphere seems a bit tense. Richard Dawson was a fool for leaving. He could have done the show one week a month for example while hosting Family Feud.
Ah yes, the famous Syndicated version has begun. Not much of a change in atmosphere except for the players involved in two games and the set having a Hollywood motif to it. I would rather they still have returning champions but because CBS was still imposing the $25,000 limit it seemed impossible to do that. The panelists and Gene look just as passionate as ever here now the they are on new timetables.
Seeing as this is 1979 I would say no...as we had a few baby bumps on daytime telly that year...esp on the soaps *GH...Monica was pregnant with AJ and OLTL Viki was preggie with Joey.* and on primetime on Dallas Sue Ellen was pregnant with John Ross*
I watched a clip from the Dallas T.V. bloopers Linda Gray was seen brushing hr hair at the same time she had a baby doll hanging from her costume to make it look like she was pregnant.
Match Game had previously shown pregnant women before. I would chalk it up to bad editing or camera timing, something along that nature. If you watch the other parts, you can see her baby bump.
back then they all went from city to city but tic tac dough and jokers wild had returning champions

@gamshwfan True. In this version, a contestant can win up to $21,000...like the PM version.

Orangutan is not a Gorilla. The judge should have been fired.

Then there would be no show, the judge was also the Producer, Ira Skutch. That reminds me about the Vampire Debacle in '74.

EVA, you're a great actress but a sloppy speller.

is American TV so prudish they can't even show us the expectant mother's baby bump?
andjb1 3 years ago
I know, that was exactly but I was thinking. I think they were back then but obviously not now.
