  • There is only one Over-sized ego here and it is yours

  • After listening to this as a W A S P I now feel qualified to tell talk about the slave experience and what it's like to be a black woman, wel at least as qualified as this guy was to talk about creationist.

  • haha atheist commit suicide cuz ppl who lose hope n stop believin in good give up.ofcource unless uve experienced it or know sum1 ud understand

  • It is a futile activity to mythologize atheism. To turn it into a value system. Particularly as a defense against theism.

  • Damn, I wish chimps did run casinos. I might not be so poor. No, who am I kidding? I'd probably lose to ducks.

  • @davidls11 With the rules of all casino games stacked in the house's favour, you could lose to an amoeba. The only real way to win is to refuse to play, or to accept that you're gonna lose money, and just "enjoy the ride".

  • it would be really really good. I like the lady with the butterflies in her hair

  • leggo my ego!

  • I, too, have never really understood the kind of mind-set needed to be disgusted or put-off by the notion (and I mean fact) that humans are but just one of the many species to have a time on this planet. When I hear statements like "we share 98% of our DNA with bonobos" I can't help but smile (especially when observing their promiscuous behaviors). And even when I hear statements like, "look at that, chimps have human qualities" I want to say NO!! We do not hold supremacy over those qualities!

  • Heh. I wouldn't have expected it from that search word. :)

  • I love that picture at 2:09 (the woman with butterflies. Where did you find that?

  • It's the fear that we aren't special, personally loved. Its all the EGO wants. To feel loved. And that's a very narrow sensitive way to perceive reality.

  • five stars

  • You know, sometimes I think a Chimpanzee could run a casino better than some of the people that do <<:

  • this guy is truly a wonderful mind. envy his eloquence, love the vids. he does a great job of breaking it down so that even a christian could understand it.

  • Don't be to sure about that. To get xtians understand it takes a true miracle!

    Sorry, i couldn't resist ;-)

  • mah, the "Christians" you are talking about are fanatics. I am a Christian, but i believe in science. If you read the bible, there is no sense in just remembering it. You must now that NOTHING in bible is LITERALLY described. The bible is more a moral guide line, then a rule book. This is what those fanatics dont understand.

  • your either pro-christian or your pro science god won't let you be both!

  • Amen.....you can drop your electronics and your car at my door.....you don't want to go to hell by supporting science now do ya?

  • that's different! computers are a way to convert the unsaved

  • But given that people cherry-pick the bible for which teachings to follow (like not most of the OT anymore), then we already *have* the morals, to be able to chose which verses to follow.

Therefore, the bible isn't a source of moral guidance.

  • I agree entirely with this video, save one part. At 1:27 you say that chimps can't run a casino as well as humans can. The casino I work at, that is a highly debated topic unfortunately...

  • It kills me when a creationist goes on about these things, and then turns around and brags about how "humble" they are.

  • Right on the mark. It's the fear that we aren't special, just some oddity in some random part of existence, that fosters the need to have a higher purpose of divinity.

  • Another great video, it's something I've been trying to get my head around lately. I like the thought that things are the same and mean the same regardless of where they come from. If life is beautiful, how is it less beautiful just because it came about naturally? If you take a watch apart and learn about all the little pieces and exactly how it works, and the put it back together again, it's still a watch. It still tells the correct time. The only difference is now you understand it.

  • Brilliant! Just Brilliant!

  • I agree with what CO2junkie said. You don't have to believe in a god to see the beautiful of Nature, or be awed by the sheer immensity of the cosmos. And the existence of these things is no more proof that God exists than it is proof that Zeus exists, or leprachauns or unicorns.

  • Great Stuff! Thank You

  • Nice one - thanks ;-)

    Love the humour.

  • I like cherries :)

  • SO well said! I like how you pointed out that us Atheists are able to see our planet & the universe as beautiful even if we are not the center of it :p

  • gording: You missed the point. It's anthropocentric 'enjoyment' versus deep ecology (biosphere egalitarianism). I enjoy that tree because I can climb it - is different than - look at all these amazing creatures around me, I'm glad to share life with them. As to EVERYONE enjoying nature, I've never presumed to speak for everyone but I do find many people lack respect for the biosphere & I find they tend to be religious in their mindset. They seem to believe it was 'put' here for them to 'use'.

  • But that food package would require a label for me to know it was for me.

Where's Earth's label that says "To: Man, From: God"? And don't say the bible, I'm talking about something as obvious as a label on a package, not something as ambiguous as a newspaper article.

  • In the words of a wise man before me: "Yeah, right, obvious. Problem is, just because things are obvious doesn't mean they are true."

  • Ok so if I am in front of you its obvious does that mean its true? The problem is when ppl complicate obvious things.

  • For something to be obvious it requires it to be true, so yes it does.

If somebody thinks it's true but actually has it wrong then it can't be obvious because if it was they would have got it right.

    Obviously.

  • Great video. I agree with your conclusion that the ego powers most of this theist belief because it means we are special. Don't you think it's as if we have to seek parental approval to validate our existence? This whole, massive Universe - most of which is out of our reach forever - was created just for us. Our lives are special because they are part of a divine plan - which makes it easier to be mean to each other. If our lives were only special to US, then we'd have to be nicer than we are.

  • Yea it is our egos look what drove Martin Luther king he was tired of being treated poorly. So he stood up trusted in God and believed God made him on this earth to have freedom with his people.

  • what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things i have ever heard at no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it i award you no points

  • Not really you were already dumb to begin with that is why you couldnt understand.

  • Wow, what a compelling argument.

    "ur dumb"

  • Would you kindly show us, how and where the bible proves to be the word of god ?

The bible is like used car dealer, when he tries to sell you a clunker. Believe him and you are screwed.Peace !!

  • Good vid! And it was nice of 6gording6 to come along and give us a great real life example of what the vid was talking about. How is that ego coming along gording? With all your talk about 'knowing god' (which god btw?); the patronising 'limited life' dross (you are so clever aren't you?); the ignorant 'coincidence' non-argument that has been debunked again, and again. Well, your ego seems to conform nicely to 'The Creationists Guide to Spouting Drivel and Thinking You're Clever.' Well done!

  • Lol talk about ego.You say I think Im clever and by doing so you try to make me stand lower.Tell me in your mind who stands higher?Exactly that is what it means to be egotistical. So stop being a hypocrite.

  • Yup

  • LOL @ "Are we there yet" cartoon

  • The whole ego thing is something I have noticed with some Creationists.. if you ask them, cold, why they dont believe in evolution, their initial response is that they dont like the idea that we are no better than apes. This may not be true of all creationists, but I wouldnt be surprised if it was.

This all seems very ironic when christian teaching is supposed to be about being humble.

  • Life coming from nothing is the creationist argument. You are the one who thinks a god poofed it into existence, not atheists.

The rest of what you have said is total nonsense. Most athesits you know have committed suicide? WTF?

    Get it together, man.

  • "Like I said you jump to conclusion without knowing what you are talking about."

    "Not your poof theory."

I loath to use this common statement but.. pot, kettle, black.

  • "Dont you have a limited life?I like how you spend it on people who will have eternal life"

If you could actually project your thoughts and put yourself in my shoes you'd see how ridiculous that is. To me, my life is finite and so is yours.

I talk to people like you because:

    a) its entertaining.

    b) occasionally its informative

    c) I worry about the effect people like you have on the world.

  • Lol like I said I know what you think. What makes you think I havent been in your shoes?Seriously dude my life aint limited. You want to know how people like me affect the world?Jesus Christ first the most imapacting person on earth.Look at Marting Luther King.Look at the constitution of the US which took its philosophy after the bible.Think ABOUT it I have the power to change things like they did. What can you do?sit around and say nothing special.

  • "What makes you think I havent been in your shoes?" Your previous comment.

"my life aint limited" I know you believe that.

"You want to know how people like me affect the world?"

I could list bad things also, but that would get away from the issue. Our actions should be based upon evidence, not made up nonsense - even if it does occasionally do good. We can do good without just as well.

"Think ABOUT it I have the power to change thing" Truly scary.

  • You want evidence look at your history book.Must I say more...people are oblivious to facts. That is what I call blind.

  • Facts and history books rarely mix well. We all know that humans write with bias and people are prepared to subvert truth to suit their own immediate political ends. Knowledge and ideas which do not suit are destroyed.

The older the history book, the less it can be trusted.

That is not to say that history books are complete lies, but you have to take into account the human factor. Caesar is probably true, because noone has much to gain from inventing him.. but the bible.. thats another story.

  • Ok you know what than people like you probably think the holocaust never happened. If that is the way of your thought process than be it.I dont know why you are still replying though. You should stop because I know where I am going. And if you do which is your going to die enjoy your last moments.Take care.

  • "people like you probably think the holocaust never happened"

a bit too recent and too many witnesses to deny.

You dont get what I am saying.. its about the level of control of information. With modern media its difficult to control information (but in some ways still possible).

"You should stop because I know where I am going." eh?

"And if you do which is your going to die enjoy your last moments.Take care."

I am, thanks. Dont waste yours! Regards.

  • Ok nice for you to go on your way.If you meet someone else like me dont go on making him dumber by your...must I say.Like I said enjoy life without popping a vein lol thinking about creationist.Enjoy your last moments you will be missed.

  • "If you meet someone else like me dont go on making him dumber by your...must I say."

What are you trying to point out here?

"enjoy life without popping a vein"

Ah, but a life without passion or cause is a life half lived.

  • Lol if I am your passion than ok.Yea you want to enjoy that other half life dont you.lol.

  • haha.. :)

  • @eequalsfb: Let's focus on what our common beliefs are: we all believe that life came from non-life at some point. Creationist say that God made the first human (fully formed) from clay and breathed life into it. Scientists postulate that simple self-replicating molecules formed about 3.5 billion to 4 billions years ago and gradually evolved into more complex life. The God of evolution is much more beautiful in that It allows life to emerge on its own in a self-sustaining material universe.

  • You:

    "DOnt like the labels right?"

    Me:

"This may not be true of all creationists, but I wouldnt be surprised if it was."

Perhaps you might like to read, occasionally.

Ill tell you what does annoy me though:

"I should say all atheist commit suicide"

Put a bloody 'S' behind 'atheist'.

  • 6gording6: And god said "poof" and there was light. And god said "poof" and there was Adam.

And god "poofed" for seven days and the whole universe was there, OUT OF NOTHING.

  • @6gording6 evolution IS NOT CHANCE. life didnt just poof into existence and evolution has NOTHING to do with abiogenesis. im guessing your outright LYING about the atheist you know killing themselfs and doing drugs as most theist lie about atheist wait should i say that all creationist are liers?

  • Nicely done my friend. I am favoriting and featuring this bitch. The anthropocentric mindset is something that I have slowly come to reject based strictly on the ideas you offer here. The ego is a pest.

  • Exhibit A: 6gording6

Another example of a creationist making a baseless claim, not bothering to back it up with anything, and expecting noone to notice.

I am perfectly willing to have a discussion with you about why I am wrong, but your comments on this video amount to nothing more than trolling.

  • Do I need to back it up its obvious.Look up what a straw man argument and you will see.If you knew God which you dont than everything you claim is based on presumptions and things you dont bother to understand.

  • 6gording6:

There is no "knowing" God. No one knows God. There is nothing inherent, nor were any of us born with any knowledge of what you think God is. It was taught, told and shown to you. Men and women taught you about what they thought was God based on a book written by Bronze Age men and translated so many times nothing of the original texts exist. It is you who has doesn't understand my friend.

  • I don't think you really understand what a strawman argument is.

  • It could be argued that the longing for purpose has found it's way into the theologic arguments. It's quite a cop out though, god has a plan for you but humans are not advanced enough to understand it. Who would've thought nailing a man to a tree could have such cataclysmic consequences.

  • Very good. I am so tired of hearing these creationists and there futile claims about hw we are the "ultimate species".

  • yeah.. I wish some aliens would just come along and throw a very un-god-shaped galactic spanner into their worldviews.

Of course.. they'll probably just say noah's ark was actually sort of a spaceship and a pair of these aliens were on board but they were dropped off on an island that was actually more of a planet...because it was after all a *big* flood.. and even space was pretty flooded back then.. Actually that all makes about as much sense as what they currently believe anyway.

  • Lol when have you heard that?Straw man.

  • I am much more awestruck by the intricate order of nature and natural processes, than I would be by some supernatural dude in the clouds poofing stuff into existence. It is a humbling thing to know that we exist because some star burned long enough to create the carbon that is the basis of our bodies and the fortunate fact that we have ourselves a fantastic little planet in just the right spot for life to thrive and evolve.
