Some keep the sales tax on products. Most have gotten direct subsidies that came from public funds to build their stores, pay for their land, and generate start up. Now take that against the small businesses who failed because they couldn't afford to sell as cheap as Walmart because of taxes they pay an Walmart doesn't.

Obama lies about "tax cuts." He uses the tax code as a front for welfare, issuing rebates as "tax credits" to those who pay no income tax. Pay people to be poor and you get more poor people. Poverty has become a carer option with food stamps, welfare, unemployment, tax credits. So now we have fat able-bodied people like those black women in New Orleans who sit at home eating chips, watching Oprah, bad-mouthing their own country and the rich who support them with hard work and taxes.
Bottom line, and maybe you should begin to understand what I am saying. It doesn't matter if its the private sector or the government, they will raise their prices on you. You will pay more. Look at parking in Chicago. It was sold to private contractors and has gone up of 40%, some areas more. Whine about unions all you want, how'd you enjoy Thanksgiving Day? How about Friday after? Much of the building expenses are at tax payer expense. Property tax exemptions. Ability to keep the sales tax on their products. The list goes on. Some keep the sales tax on products. Most have gotten direct subsidies that came from public funds to build their stores, pay for their land, and generate start up. Now take that against the small businesses who failed because they couldn't afford to sell as cheap as Walmart because of taxes they pay an Walmart doesn't.

Super- fairtax is a tax on food, everything. Go read the book. Boortz talks about a "ten dollar" tax on your "office visit to the doctor". Did you read the book? But what if you have a car accident or brain tumor - could be 500,000 in bills. NO exceptions -- you have to pay. Oh - you get 199 a month prebate -- supposedly that covers the tax on all necessities. But 199 month wont cover the tax on most people's rent.

Therefore it spurs growth. But the consumption tax that's being pushed by Peter Schiff are the deal. That is a whale of a plan. We need to do away with all the payroll taxes on employees as well

I think the idea of taxing consumption instead of production makes a lot of sense, and taxing illegal activities and illegal immigrants sounds great to me. However, nothing here can solve the real problem that we have. The thing that needs changed is the out of control spending habits of our government. Until that is curbed, how we pay taxes isnt the big issue.

@FarceTax Con: Opponents of the fair tax claim it could create an underground economy of people trying to evade taxes. Under a sales tax, intermediate goods that are a part of production would not be taxed. This creates potential for businesses to claim something is an intermediate good when really it is the end product that should be taxed. This would however constitute evasion and the bookkeeping that would be mandated for businesses should prevent most of this.

@FarceTax Pro: A huge pro of the fair tax is it would significantly broaden the tax base. Illegal activity (such as selling drugs) that creates large amounts of income would now get taxed. Under the current system we just get lots of rich drug dealers. Under this system they now get taxed every time they buy something. Along the same lines, this would also tax illegal immigrants. This would go a long way towards solving the illegal immigration problem.

Guitar Sure you COULD have one giant sales tax -- but not at 23%. The real math shows it would be 80-90%. Go see the onlly REAL study, by experts, on the Fairtax. Joint Committee on taxations. It shows that just to replace in INCOME tax alone -- the sales tax would be 35%. TO replace all other taxes too - up to 90%. Can you imagine a 90% sales tax? That's why Fairtax hides from hearings.

This reduces the incentive to work harder and be productive the higher you move up the ladder. Taxing consumption makes a lot more sense than taxing production.

Our economy is very heavily dependent on consumers, and a large sales tax would probably make some people spend less on things, save more, and pay off debt. There would be a lot of money that would come in from the sidelines and help turn the markets around. @FarceTax Pro: Transparency. Transparency in government is always a good thing. With over 60,000 pages in the current tax code, most people have no idea what is in it. What happens is the people who have more money pay accountants to find loop holes that get them out of paying taxes. Poorer people cant afford the accountant so they just end up paying the base rate. With the fair tax it is easy to see that everyone pays the same rate on the things they buy.

On what basis do say the money has been wasted? Much of the stimulus money has already been used to reduce taxes for the middle class. Much of it has been targeted to be spent over a period years,not weeks or months. A huge portion goes to improving a failing infrastructure, which will also increase employment . How biased is the press is in saying Bush made "tax cuts for the rich"? Very, since the biggest cuts went to the poor. The bottom income tax rate fell by a third immediately, from 15% to 10%. The top fell from 39.6% over several years down to 35%, which is only a one ninth drop! So Bush gave TAX CUTS FOR THE POOR mostly! But everyone in the media fooled us about it!! From the beginnings of the income tax, the rates topped at 7%. Debates were held to cap the rates below 10%. The idea was dropped, not because the Congress was against the cap, but because they thought tax rates would never, should never, get that high.
Then FDR came and made the depression and war in Europe an excuse to raise taxes to 91%. High taxes and burdensome regulations caused the Great Depression.
It is long overdue that the errors of FDR be erased; the evil purged from our land.

in 1917 the top rate was 67% then raised to 73% IN 1918 and dropped to 56% in 1922 in 1925 it dropped to 25% then in 29 to 24% NOT UNLIKE what has happned in our recent history. Seems Reducing taxes for the rich usually results in Depression for the Nation.

The produce of your labor is an inviolable right that belongs to the individual, not to the state. Tax should be as low as possible. The government should learn to live on only what it has, instead of raising taxes to stratospheric level, killing businesses.
What causes depression is a drop in after-tax disposable spending power. Government causes this drop in spending power by raising taxes, tightening burdensome regulations, and borrowing and printing excessive "money".

There's many things I don't agree on what Beck says but he is right about why the majority of tea parties are becoming so popular. It's not about favoring either party. Both party are proving to look the same and care NOT for the legal alien or US citizen. The system is broken by our public servants who reward and support the corrupt. Why would they do this? Personal gain? Is it too late to stand up and make a difference? Many thanks to CaJeffO always interested in learning more. Vote 3rd party

CaJeffO, your logic is entirely baseless. The government has, by no means, promoted outsourcing in any way. This movement has been one by corporations attempting to get cheap labor. Secondly, the government definitely hasn't supported illegal immigration...they have absolutely no incentive. These immigrants do not pay taxes in the first place. It seems that people like you are angry...at something...maybe life perhaps...and of course, you decide to solve this problem by protesting the government

See, the crucial flaw in these people's logic is that they don't see economic connections or causes, just effects. They see that they have high taxes, so they decide the government is entirely at fault. Little do they consider the fact that the economy itself is at risk. Sure, it was the fault of financial institutions and such, but there IS no turning back now, nor pointing fingers. The people of this country are the only source of value, and if we don't pay the taxes, who the fuck will?

Why else would our government ignore the immigration laws on our books? Or allow wide spread abuse of H-1B Visa's to the point 100's of THOUSANDS of Americans are victims to this & now are familiar with "out-sourcing" & "off shore services".
It's more than the taxes!!!! We've been getting the shaft for 25 years. But "THE TAXES" getting raised and going broke finally caught the peoples attention.

I attended a Tea Party because I have worked hard all my life, paid for my own education, and raised two sons who now are in the Army. Though I have saved and saved and refuse to ever be in debt, I now cannot retire as planned. How dare anyone refer to me as an inbred redneck loser just because I believe in individual rights, the constitution, and obeying the law, not the corrupt politicians of the last two administrations! Guys, look at the shows he's had lately and his apology to people who believe in FEMA camps since he tried and said on TV that he could not refute them. I honestly think Beck has changed, but i can't say that about Hannity, O'Reilly, and the others, who i do believe are showing up to these to turn people off and divide what could be a very big and powerful movement!!

Besides, judge him by what he actually said there; he COULD have tried to say it was all Rep or whatever. I think he did a good job of explaining the whys. He had a benefit luncheon to help fund the teaparty. Faux news connections aside, Beck seems like a good man, and i wouldn't be surprised if he disappeared from TV sometime soon.

Half of the registered voters voted during last election
so 30% of Americans ACTUALLY voted.
16% of Americans voted for Obama while the other 14% voted for McCain.
A SMALL MINORITY OF AMERICANS VOTED FOR OUR TWO CANDIDATES LAST ELECTION.
Which is why, people shouldn't be surprised to see a growing number of people who dislike both the Republican AND the Democratic parties EQUALLY.
These tea parties aren't about Democrats vs. Republicans.

Obama lies about "tax cuts." He uses the tax code as a front for welfare, issuing rebates as "tax credits" to those who pay no income tax. Pay people to be poor and you get more poor people. Poverty has become a carer option with food stamps, welfare, unemployment, tax credits. So now we have fat able-bodied people like those black women in New Orleans who sit at home eating chips, watching Oprah, bad-mouthing their own country and the rich who support them with hard work and taxes.
