  • Im 25 and I had mine at 14.... It hasnt held me back... i scuba dive! Get a lot of massages and exercise! I do get pain when it rains though...My surgeon was dr crawford in Cincinnati childrens hospital

  • Thanks for the info. Im curious, what other activities can you do (running, biking, sports, climbing, ect.)

    Thanks for watching!

    WEs

  • How are you doing now?! I've had 2 lumbar fusions & one laminectomy/diskectomy.

Dx = Spinal Stenosis & DDD

Had to quit my desk job b/c I can't sit for long. Waiting for Social Security decision now.

  • I am doing better from week to week. It is a slow process but I am still seeing improvement. Hope social security works out for you. It's tough to fight for help when you don't feel well. Good luck

  • Most of all it all depends on your neurosurgeon. I am lucky to be in good hands, but my first attempts to be healthy werent so successful. I had one year of total misery and pain. Now I am slowly recovering from L5 - S1 discectomy and rhizolysis surgery with constant obstacles on my way.

  • You are right about choosing the correct surgeon. It is very sad how badly or neglected one can be treated when sick. Hang in there!

  • My GP had several bad experiences in past with neurosurgeons until he found right one. Some his patients suffer because their surgery weren't successful.

  • A good doc can make a world of difference. I get so nervous when choosing one because it really does make the difference in the quality of care you receive. Thanks for taking the time to comment!

  • No problem. I hope your surgery goes well. Let me know if you have time.

  • My name is Cesar Fernandez I'm 44 years old ,I watched your your videos and i give you alot of credit I had laminectyme done in 2007 and now I'm having a fusion done and I'd like to know how your doing now hope your doing better, your videos gave me alot of knowledge about the surgery, want to know if your back doing your normal duties.

  • I'm sorry you have been through so many surgeries. I hope the fusion goes well. I'm glad I had it done so far. As far as being back to my normal duties I'm not really. I'm taking classes online instead of on campus and I have not gone back to work. I feel Like i'm at about 50% or my normal strength but I think it's mainly because I am weak due to being in the house for six months and having two surgeries back to back. I am in physical therapy now and progressing well. Keep me updated.

  • Thank you for making these videos! I felt like I'm the only one in my 20's that had this surgery! What was the reason why you're getting it done? I had a fusion when I was 19 for spondylolthesis and had the same procedure you did with the l3-5. They didn't use any hardware on me though because my bones are smaller than average. That was 5 years ago, but i still have some SI issues :-( Hope your recovery is going well!

  • Hi and thanks for watching! I had lots of problems with my disc and nerves being pinched at various areas. Also I had facet joint problems. Anyway, the reason for this particular approach was the fact the my two disc had almost completely collapsed and severely degenerated. So the two level fusion was the best choice to fix all problems. He also relieve pressure from the nerves by removing some bone. Good luck to you also and thanks for taking the time to comment.

  • I'm so sorry you had to go through all of this! Do you have DDD as well? At first I was only diagnosed with DDD, but it turned out I had spondylolthesis and spondylolsis on top of that. :-( I completely understand how it is, but there is hope from it as well. I'm actually about to run my 2nd marathon since my surgery :-) Don't give up with it, even though its as frustrating as hell and no one understands how painful it is, keep on going and be an inspiration of strength to others! Blessings!

  • Yes I did have DDD. That is the main reason for the fusion as opposed to other types of surgeries. Two of my disc had almost completely collapsed. Thank you so much for your encouragement!

  • Brother I just had my fusion last Monday and I KNOW what your goin through. The pain is like someone ripping you apart! I have had 4 partial disketomys and now this new fusion and the pain on the road to recovery is horrible and I hope worth it. I hope you heal my friend. I hope we both heal.. this is horrible.. but hopefully worth the hell we have endured!

  • I wish you the best also! So far I believe the fusion is well worth it. I still have pain but it is different than before and I believe this pain will subside (my surgeon does too). I would like to keep updated on your progress. If you have time send me messages letting me know how your fusion is going. Thanks for watching!
