  • MM is horribly generic now.

    And Brian's blimped out!

  • The instrumental track in the beginning of the video is that by Chris and does anybody know the name???

  • @NeroBorgata26 If its by Chris its probably from his old band Tweeker.

  • @DrZaious Tweaker, sorry.

  • glockenspeil is my new favourite word.

  • Chris Vrenne love his job I think. He is a verry talented person.

  • which refill contains the guitar patches??? (other than the factory sound bank)

  • that head shaking is making me give that interviewer a punch in the face

  • pogo john5 twiggy and marilyn manson are the biggest talents ;)

  • @Polskiiguy1993 Ginger is awesome too though, he's a good drummer

  • @MansonNiles11 true true ;)

  • Stephen Bier (Pogo) was the biggest loss to Marilyn Manson. all the errie beeps and things from the early albums are gone. Vrenna would be my choice too. cool guy. obviously extremely intelligent.

  • what laptop is he using?A net book?

  • :P Looks like everytime nine inch nails is mentioned it erks him.lol

  • @poshi12 because NIN was his entire career almost lol he went back and forth from manson and NIN without them i dont think vren would be known

  • Probably because that's the band he used to be in that he knows is way better than Manson....

  • Chris looks like he drank a huge coffee just before being interviewed.. kinda jumpy-ish. He's pretty cool though.

  • @BlackDeath10000

  • somebody set this straight was he in NiN and did he write with trent

  • He was a part of the live group on Nine Inch Nails on the drums, as far as writing album material, Chris didn't write music with Trent.

  • Thats what I always thought,He wrote everything and had a live band for hire. But if you listen to tweaker and some other stuff Vrenna's done, you might second guess yourself. The music and riffs sound so much like NiN.

  • they moved to cleveland together and had i little studio apartment and filled it with gear and wrote alot of the earlier stuff TOGETHER. most pretty hate machine

  • bloody hell he is sooo cuutttteee!!!!!

  • OMG UNCLE CHRIS! I HAVENT SEEN HIM IN FOREVER. I MISS HIM!

    amazing job with his career.

love you and aunt carrie <3

  • reason is good tool for beginners or experts....easier than pro tools and still sounds great..i wish i knew what guitar refill chris used as well..that sounded nice..

  • But in protools you can record real time multi track audio, reason can't....I look forward to reason record, I use protools and reason at the moment, so am totally keen on propellerheads new release, then maybe my protools system gets kicked?

  • My big question with Chriss is if he is working on a PC!

look at the PT promo and you will notice a apple mac screen sitting on a HD interface, but the whole time he is showing PT8 off you will notice it is in a XP Environment., iam asking why, kracks, stability?

  • wonder how Reznor used Pro Tools in the early days of like the late 80s making PHM on an Apple II which is iike System 7 Mac OS and same with Broken too. of course computers and technology got better but its mainly old school shit ya know... glad we have USB ports and OS X Macs lol. no SCSI ports lol.

  • of course trent used pt, he is a fan of nail, where he got every idea from, he even named his band 9 inch nails, and nail used sample cell in a pro tools enviremet before digidesign and avid bought out pro deck from the early micromedia company which was later caleld pro tools.

  • I just watched some shit on the Digidesign site, with an interview of Vrenna using Pro Tools 8 as a production tool. Guess he uses Reason mainly for like live situations playing keyboard...dunno...software ppl say is easy turns out to be hard lol I am still learning Apple Logic Pro 8. Cost so much for Logic Studio, but I still wanna try different production software, Pro Tools LE might be something to look into or Reason. I just dunno.

  • Really talented and friendly, down to earth guy.

  • I'm glad this guy replaced pogo, he has been involved with marilyn manson for years. However for all the people that say pogo did nothing. Listen to the new album. Those keyboard parts he composed on previous albums are gone. And he had a very distinctive sound, which is now gone and this sound was very dominant in the marilyn manson sound.

  • Chris Vrenna is a nice guy

  • Does anyone know anything about Mainstage or Reason dpros/cons as a live onstage software?

  • ok cool

  • Does anyone know what guitar refill Chris was using to get the rhythm guitar sound he demoed towards the end of this video?

  • Reason sounds real cool like it would be very easy for production and performance. lately I just started using Apple Logic Studio with mainstage and Logic Pro 8. Pro Tools just was not working out for my band after that well. I remember the demo cd I made for the record label, very easy to use. I really wanna try reason tho, always like to explore software.

  • Wow that was so cool. How come Pogo never did any interviews? This guy has been behind the scenes in Manson for years.

  • this is also the guy who did the drum solo for perfect drug song, co founder of NIN(88-98) and now he's working with manson, and after hearing were from america, i think this new manson album is going to be great.

  • i always thought the drum solo was a modified amen break.

and you also forgot to mention tweaker, amazing new prog/industrial

  • this guy is really cool. Just found him. how talented. the guy being interviewed i mean lol. i'm sure the other guy is too though haha

  • You should check out the song Microsize Boy by Tweaker if you haven't already. I think it's one of Chris's best tracks.

  • i don't know if you were talking to me directly but i heard that song, i watch a fan vid, and it was really cool. thanks :)

and once again listening to this guy talk, he's so diverse with who he's worked with. really cool guy.

  • VRENNA A CIGAR of QUALITY Try One Youll Like 1

  • yeah, IVIupgrade...Pro Tools is just a program in the studio same with Kore native instruments its all just in the studio I just heard from people Reason 4.0 i think was complicated, never tried it...might try and learn it for our next tour in a few months. Back in the day I used Apple Logic or Ableton when I first got started, I have used re-wire on different situations.

  • lol if i'm fifteen and can use it for production and performances you can do it, you should give it a try

  • yeah, I remember seeing Chris drumming for Manson at Rock IM Rock thinking "well Ginger either got tired of Manson's off stage shit or hes hurt which comes as no suprise after seeing the Reading Festival 2001 I think which was all on the GGG Tour dvd.

  • Chris is a real good drummer...I liked Jerome Dillion better in some ways and Josh Freese is just an amazing drummer but my main drum influence has always been Danny Carey just a badass guy.

  • Can't forget that mic stand that cut your head from Trent on the NIN Self Destruct Tour 1994 I think, and he kept drumming. Impressive as Reznor stated lol. Reason is kinda complex for me...so i many use pro tools with Kore native instruments for software effects then theres some hardware in my set up, but not alot I did try to attempt Reason 4.0 on my mac but its complex in a way but theres so many options, which is good and bad in the same way.

  • Vrenna's my fucking drum idol, besides Josh Freese, Travis Barker, and Ilan Rubin. I've only been drumming for like, eight months? And I can't do shit. I'm learning to play "Discipline" on drums. But listening to Vrenna's drum work in this NIN rehearsal video I saw is fucking amazing.

  • This was prolly while they were starting production for Manson's Eat Me Drink Me...I could be wrong though.

  • Chris is amazing, drumming and some programming for NIN back in the early days then doing amazing keyboard/synthesizer work for Manson on the 2007 and 2008 tour. I produce stuff myself more along the lines of the Zeromancer, which is related to NIN in that industrial way..but i use Logic by apple and Pro Tools which i had to learn to use extensively. I've met Tim Skold while he was doing his solo projects which are amazing, would love to have him play bass or guitar

  • what is the date? when this was recorded?

  • Reason is a great program. If you can't make it sound good then it's you not the program. Making it sound good is about knowing how to mix and having good taste in the sounds you choose.

  • For those who are trashing Reason, could you suggest other software options?

  • get protools 8 and komplete by NI :D

  • pro tools is crap for live circumstances reason is a more suitable option i would use pro tools in the studio and use re wire to transfer it to reason

  • aye ya well he didnt say in his comment to suggest a better live program, all together NI's stuff has better sonic quality than reason imo, unless your making your own 24bit samples. Reason rocks though.

  • I thought Chris will use better software than Reason :[

  • Yeah IMO Reason is just one big bloated toy. I can never get a good mix down and everything sounds compressed. Which is bad becouse I like wide open mixes. Oh well.....RENOISE 2.0 FTW!!!

  • chris vrenna is cool :)

but i like pogo too :)

  • this convinced me to get the reason demo...holy shit its awsome im so buying it!!!

  • to bad I hate Reason.....but good interveiw....

  • Reason is for kids.

  • When this was recorded?

  • This is a great interview! I am happily surprised to see that Vrenna uses Reason...LIVE, at that!

  • I loved Pogo, but Chris Vrenna is amazing. Coma White sounded beautiful live this time around. You could tell when Pogo played he would just hold one key, and drink beer with the other hand.

  • I miss him being with NIN.

  • I use to use allot of hardware but I switched over to an all computer set-up a few years ago. And I use reason both in the studio and live, it's totally great. No more need for hardware, not for me at least.

  • But POGO can make show and MM is not about sound-it's about show

  • Chris Vrenna is boss

  • POGO I call you back

  • Yes Pogo was an original member but never really contributed anything special to the band. When playing live Pogo mostly had everything prerecorded and sampled, so he would just hit several buttons through out the set.

Chris unlike Pogo plays everything live. Trust me you can tell the difference. Plus Chris knows what he is doing and can freehand just as good as Trent Reznor. Pogo stuck to a routine. Plus Pogos a bitch and left.

  • Chris Vrenna is amazing live, i mean pogo just plays samples and since cryptorchid he never made a true song in many years, and Chris save the band paying great songs like comawhite, heart shaped glasses, tainted love, and chris actually plays live they don't do samples.

  • Agreed.

  • POGO PLZ COME BACK

  • Hey TMusic22, did you forget? Vampires can't go out in the sun!

    >:)

    Cool video.

  • Another great vid!

Chris Vrenna is one of the industry's best programmers and studio jocks (and his solo work is phenomenal as well). Anyone crying about Reason's lack of features or anything else is only showing their own lack of skill.

A leading programmer playing on arguably one of the biggest tours going isn't going to use something that's going to fail, cause problems, be hard to use, or sound like shit.

If you can't make Reason work, it's your fault, not the software.

  • i use reason, its great for making garage

  • whats the name of the software??

  • Reason

  • ableto live is a better sequencer dude. reasons grea for live work???

  • Great to watch my favorite video's in HD.

    Good work!!

  • great vid, reason is cool:)

  • Chris, You live in LA, Get some sun....
