  • I am 61 and in good health and youthful from outside appearances. My only medication is cholesterol-lowering medication and meds for depression/bipolar. Six months ago, my new doctor, a doctor of internal medicine, said he heard 3rd heart sounds in me but ordered no tests. My appt with him was because I had dependent edema in my left foot. I gave up salt and my foot is normal again. Does this 3rd heart sound mean an early death for me? I feel perfectly fine. My doc's ordered no tests.

  • kentucky n tennessee r kind of misleading lol ...u have to say it in a weird way lol

  • Hello, my heart makes the noise of 0:20 (with a handset Pocu above the middle of the chest, an average of two fingers above the nipple and a little to the right). This sound that goes in 0:20, in which position is the handset? In my two-dimensional Doppler echocardiography has "minimal regurgitation mitral and tricuspid valve." I have symptoms of burning, radiating to left arm and stitches in the chest, shortness of breath, tiredness. What can be?

  • one man just asked me to take his bp and it was odd because it is only 4 strong beats sound with no low beat sound (140, 100 &80), when i check his apical this was the sound that i heard, ... also a nursing student..

  • Easily appreciable here but i is not easy to appreciate it in patient. And what is that sound at end of video

  • Wow... Dr parth ! ur work is really appreciable...im a medical student..but i have learned so much from ur videos for which a person needs to spend whole life in the hospitals, listening each and every patient.. I am really really grateful to you.May God bless u.

  • Excelet learning tool ty. I am a nursing student and we discussed this tonight. Or instructor told us of these videos great piece.. TY again

  • Thanks but are these real Heart sound our you made it by yourself

  • i have a third heart sound at the moment is this a problem?

  • I heard four distinct sounds. One was the distinctive gallop S1,2,3 rhythm, but then at 0:08 or so I heard a sort of fluid sound, or a dragging sound, a couple of times.

And at 0:22 the rhythm changes, to a more normal rhythm, except S1 also contains a different fluid sound, the sound one might expect from fluid under pressure squirting through an opening (valve leakage?).

  • its all 4 sounds!

  • What sounds are in the sound bit starting at 0:24?..is that S3+S4 (summation gallop)?

  • nice one man

  • Gallop rhythm is it?

  • . Analogy: rivers going into ocean leads to turbulence (ocean is the ventricle with a lot of fluid in it and the river is the blood coming in during diastole; the river hits this large mass of fluid in the ventricle, causing turbulence and an S3 heart sound).

  • what causes s3?

  • @TheMrpalid In younger individuals , it is probably due to the vibrations set off during the inrush of blood as ventricular filling occurs

  • thanx ....

  • Is S3 an abnormal heartbeat and if it isnt where can i hear an example of one?

  • s3 is normal in children and young adults , pregnancy but if u heard it over 40 year old person it is abnormal and it is associated with mitral valve regurgitation or LV heart failure

  • @ugcsred2011 It's Not abnormal. it just isn't usually heard in individuals.

  • s3 is benign in young and athletes. if you're not either or then might want it checked

  • way to quote wikipedia... please don't give medical advice on youtube.

  • I can sometimes feel or hear this... but it only seems to happen sporadically, possibly exercise has something to do with it, I'm not sure. Either way, a doctor's listened before and I've had an ecg and they claimed it was fine, so what should I do? Is it possible to have s3 just sometimes, and if so, is that healthy?

  • @ordonarc18 Its unlikely that you feel an s3 beat, even so it would be difficult to know what heart sound your hearing, maybe and s2 split, however if youve had it checked out i wouldnt lose too much sleep over it :)

  • Oh my god. Sometimes I think I have S3.

  • Why did it change near the end? The beats were quicker and more even.

  • Can you add one for S4

  • is it harmless having an extra beat? ^^ lol i hope i don't sound dumb and stupid anyway thanx for sharing on youtube

  • its not normal and you better get an ECG and your heart checked

  • its normal in children and young adults in the apex, but if its heart in older people, it might be indicative of a heart problem (mitral regurgitation)

  • @lovesalfie Depends on whether the extra beat is the 3rd sound. It could be open snap, or delayed closing of pulmonary/aortic semilunar valve. If the extra beat is a 3rd heart sound, then it is a normal finding in children and young adults, it implies the presence of a supple ventricle. But it is a sign of disease if found in middle-aged or older adults, where it is a sign of volume overload due to congestive heart failure.

  • thanks

  • that is helpful, thanks alot

  • awesome. never heard it for real before so its good to know what it sounds like

  • thank you~

  • thank you sir
