Kane himself wanted to get rid of the mask because he had an increasingly hard time working and breathing with it on. Vince okayed it. Kane's injuries also caught up to him, hence why he isn't as buff as he used to be. As far as how Kane is treated in storylines, it isn't any different than when he had the mask on. He was still in shitty storylines and almost always lost. Eric had NOTHING to do with it.

@hanmerboys 2000/2001 were in the attitude era. And yes the wrestling wasn't brilliant but what made the promos and this era good were the charisma these guys had and what a roster!. What it lacks now is just more of a solid roster. You can't compete with Rock, Stone Cold, Masked Kane, Undertaker, Lesnar, Booker T, and not to mention the crappy stables we have these days compared to back then APA, Dudleyzs, Hardys, 2 Cool, Edge and Christian the list goes on and on.
