thanks Tinny, great demo! i've found a bunch of demo's for fruits and vegies but when i went looking to dehydrate meat yours was the only one i found and i'm glad you posted it. thanks!
not to be funny but the hamburger is there notable difference between it and coffee ? I carry instant coffee most of the time but also carry regular coffee sometimes !
Awesome video Tinny. Blanching helps break down cell walls so food dries quicker and more evenly. So cooking or "blanching" ( the high tech word) creates a better quality product like Tinny's. As a MFP this video is going on my must watch list. Thanks for this. =)
Do you have to cook the food before dehydrating it? or can you put raw food in there. I would think raw food would cook properly once you put it into a cooking pot... What would happen if i didnt cook the broccoli first, and tried cooking with it on the trail?
ALso another quic question that came to mind regarding other foods I could use: Could I make my own banana chips, and the like, using this method? how about raisins by putting regular grapes in there?
You can cook it from raw on the trail but it would take a long time and use a lot of fuel. Things like grapes and bananas will work but don't come out like the stuff from the store
go to the website "dehydrate2store" and under their videos tab you will find a great explanation on dehydrating banana chips. She later says be sure to use a stainless steel knife or the chips will be dark in the center.
@oaney try spraying the banana chips with pure lemon juice before you dehydrate them. checkout deydrate2store on youtube, she does awesome demo's on tons of fruits and vegies.
Hi, I have 3 dehydrators that I bought in garage sales, only one has a fan and none have a temp control, will they work? and what do I have to do different?
The one with the fan will dehydrate faster. Mine doesn't have a fan or a temp control. Make sure every couple of hours you rotate your trays on both kinds. Top trays go on the bottom, bottom trays go on top, and the middle trays start moving the next direction.
can u dehydrate by using a standard oven instead of that round thing u were using? and if so can u tell me how or better yet make a video. im sure most people have ovens instead of that round thing you have so any info would be greatly appreciated

Your dehydrators should work just fine.

Any experience with seasoning your hamburger during the browning process to integrate those flavors prior to dehydration?
tastygarlic 3 years ago 2
No it is very stable and can be store in an airtight bag for months at room temp

Where did you find the fruit roll sheets that stop the food from falling through the holes in the dehydrating tray?
jalfrado 3 years ago
They came with it
minibulldesign 3 years ago
You can also use heavy duty plastic wrap, make sure you cut a hole in the center for the warm air to flow through.

I think it is about 6 months for the freezer before it freezer burns---the vac bag will go a year and still be ok

Excellent tutorial Tinny.
BTW, how long will dehydrated ground beef keep in a freezer bag vs vacuum sealed bag before it goes bad.
