Young man, you are part of the future, a positive future. I personally never had problems with family and friends after coming out but I know too many horror stories of guys that did. I know other gay men who are still estranged from their family even though they are intelligent, successful, and happily partnered. The issue here is you see sexual orientation in black and white. There's no straight or gay. Everyone is attracted to everyone to some degree. You fall for a person, not their gender. Preference is the only thing that plays a role. A 13 year old doesn't know what jeans they like. they don't know what gender they prefer either.

I'm married to a bi guy, so I don't see sexual orientation in black and white at all, but for some people, it is, or they make a choice to identify one way or the other, which is perfectly valid. And yes, you fall for a person, but their gender is an extremely important part of that when it comes to sexual attraction.
