I think Americans must learn inter-cultural communication skills. If you have an accent you might get the worst service than ever. Just try this: Go to starbucks or McDonalds. They got no patience for visitors. They speak so fast as if there is only English language on the globe. I went to Chick-fil-A. A guy laughed at my accent. Since then I feel shy to go to American restaurants. I am from Georgia. We do not say "did you understand?" This is like talking to children.
