PS: You can practice takteteketatake dinedenagenanake for a year, two bols that zakir plays a lot, but you will never be able to improvise this bols with other bols like he and that´s the way to get the best technique. With a good technique you can play most bols without switching and no need to practice a lot. In this discipline i think Tari Khan has the better technique without judging anybody. This solo is still the nicest tabla on youtube, so he win, but don´t try to copy this, you´ll fail.
I doubt that Zakir ever practice like one bol for hours. A few minutes than next one i think. A guruji of mine was doing that repetition-stuff a lot (and is still i think) but was never able to improvise like a pro or even a semi-pro. Tabla and other instruments are not working like that and your Aloke Dutta is way under Zakir´s league. Even i play clearer and faster than that guy without touching any drum for many weeks. But yes, repetition is very important.

He starts with a famous Farukhabadi Peshkar, goes into famous Punjab relas, does some variations with the theka and then turns the theka into a Rela, and then does a brilliant ending with a Chakardar!
I'm just in awe of how relaxed and calm he looks while executing some of the most ridiculous dexterity and accuracy one can witness in a pair of hands...
@Darmikalus LOL yeah, the key is relaxation and managing to play effortlessly, all the while producing the correct sounds. With half an hour practice that is possible. BUT... 3 or more hours a day and u can become very fast, maybe like Zakir Ji? It'll take many years to reach to his kind of level though. I'm not sure if aqnyone can. It's like Rajnikanth and Nusrta Fateh Ali Ji. God creates only one piece of such memorable people. However, we can be good and fast, but not AS good I suppose.

Ustad means master or teacher. No DJ could do this either, unless Zakir is also a DJ... (I havent seen him do that though perhaps he has? )

He starts with a famous Farukhabadi Peshkar, goes into famous Punjab relas, does some variations with the theka and then turns the theka into a Rela, and then does a brilliant ending with a Chakardar!

@Darmikalus LOL yeah, the key is relaxation and managing to play effortlessly, all the while producing the correct sounds. With half an hour practice that is possible. BUT... 3 or more hours a day and u can become very fast, maybe like Zakir Ji? It'll take many years to reach to his kind of level though. I'm not sure if aqnyone can. It's like Rajnikanth and Nusrta Fateh Ali Ji. God creates only one piece of such memorable people. However, we can be good and fast, but not AS good I suppose.
