I was there (I live in Baltimore County) Sat and Sun. SO much fun. My first Indy race, and man was it fun!!! The cars were fast, loud and just plain awesome to watch. Got some great pictures too. I was very pleased with how well Baltimore seemed to behave, and the TV broadcast really made the city look great. Just an all-around positive experience; for the fans, locals, and the city itself. Can't wait til next year!!!
@MrKhille You obviously havent been there. Your 1980's view of the old Baltimore stereotype just makes you look untraveled, and kinda behind the times. Now, go back to your government-sanctioned pharmaceutical-pill popping habit. Because those drugs are okay.
@bassplayeroceanside Worked downtown through 08 and saw the addicts dancing in/directing traffic on MLK. Second only to SF for HIV. Yeah, keep on believing. B'More needs more believers.
@chrisdraper2007 Surprisingly fewer crashes than expected. The only major collision was during Sunday's morning practice. Tony Kanaan lost brakes at 170mph, and ran up over Helio Castroneves' right, rear. TK flew over Helio's car, bumped a wall, and came to a sudden stop in some tires. Helio jumped out of his car to check on Tony. Both drivers were fine, TK apologized, and both drivers actually finished the race later that day, albeit in back-up cars.
I was not happy after sitting in traffic this morning, but after seeing this I am very excited. Yes - we know its not F1 - but the track has lots of passing opportunities and I think will be very exciting race to watch.
The purpose of the complex T5-T7 is to get the cars to slow down before the pit entrance - I think the virtual lap took it a bit faster than what we will see, especially since there may be rain during qualifying.
I'm amazed at all the comments talking about problems with the track because cars might wreck. It's racing, wrecks happen!!! Plus, these are supposedly "professional drivers", if regular people can drive on the streets, these guys and girls should be able to figure it out too. Wrecks happen because drivers cross over the limit of their cars. Every track is perfectly safe, other than occasional mechanical failure, drivers always cause the wrecks, not the track layouts!
Have we learned nothing from the debacle of A1GP at Durban, South Africa? Hairpin turns on street courses only lead to giant messes of cars causing long safety car periods.
@Senninha70 I distinctly remember the Champ Car circuit at San Jose's first turn hairpin as being FAR worse in terms of hairpins on circuits. Turn 1 at Durban at least had a small car lot's worth of runoff room. San Jose's T1 was just brutal, and considering that cars had to deal with that ridiculous trolley crossing jump right before it, they were coming in hot and unsettled.
Of course, A1GP's course in Beijing takes the cake.
@Dogman36 Strange that it would make more sense to use it for the IndyCars where they are the faster cars. The chicane will just hold up the LMP1's and P2's getting around the GT Traffic
I've spent a lot of time in Baltimore, I can't believe I am seeing it turned into a street circuit, I really wish I could go this year. 180mph down those streets? Wow.

It looks remarkably drug free at these speeds. Maybe they forgot to animate the dealers.
