  • I hope people who are commenting about the speed being slow know that the guy isn't going full throttle. If he is, then he hasn't taken care of that car at all. I have an 8th gen Si that has the same motor as this car and it is much faster when under full throttle.

  • @calypso037 actually i wanted out of the honda scene. i got older and the honda ricer scene just didnt fit me anymore. so i didnt sell the car because it needed a $48 o2 sensor lol. if i sold every car i owned everytime it needed $48 dollars worth of maintenance id have a new car every 6 months lol

  • @adunn225 WOW. burned the first sensor? you do know what an o2 sensor is right? o2 sensors go bad on cars all the time. it is what it is. this car had over 70k miles on it. its about time for little things to start needing replacement. has nothing to do with driving it easy or hard. the car isnt gonna blow up because i floored the gas pedal with a cel....if you care so much, do yourself a favor and dont buy a used honda. then you wont have to worry about how the previous owner drove it.

    they both are about the same loudness compared. i drove both k and b series motor from stock to mod. what i can say is that b series is slightly louder more high pitch then k series. the k series has its deeper distinctive sound.

    what i can say tho when you put in the whole aftermarket exhaust system on both motor you will hear a big difference in vtec engagement. specially header with about 2.5 outlet. 10x louder

  • @rkjpsn honda came up with the idea of two different cam profiles. everyone else uses multipile Intake VVT like MIVEC. then you have ones that change the tension on timing belt/chain like VANOS or Nissan's VVT. But Honda started the idea and still is the best VVT out there.

  • @rkjpsn yes, before the switchover, you run on regular cam lifters. But when you go into vtec, aggressivly high lifters and locked by a solinoid and the intake/exuhst valves stay open longer, allowing more fuel and air into the cylinder. i-VTEC works the same way, but the angle of the VTEC lifter can very from 10 degrees to 45 degrees, i believe, give or take on the aggresive angle. I'm a VTEC guy and I always will be. The engagment sound so much better then VVT or anyother vvt system.

  • @LazySniper Has nothing to do with lifters....It's a camshaft PROFILE. The lifters get locked onto the aggressive profile with a pin that bridges the "follower" type fingers.

    with the k20 profile engagement can vary from 5200 to 5800 RPM.

  • @jsmorel86 The range is there and I used to have the engineering article on it from Honda. The conditions for vtec to actually engage at a lower RPM requires less than 65% throttle and high load (full car, towing, etc.) from what I remember. Of course....I can't bloody find the thing and I've honestly been trying to find the bugger. It is very informative on how amazing the engine is.

  • @rkjpsn Honda did not invent variable valve timing. Porsche did in the 1950s. Then Fiat, then GM, then Alfa. Honda then invented VVT for their motorcycles, then Nissan invented their own, THEN Honda came out with VTEC. And it's not the best out there right now. There are many, more advanced VVT systems in production right now.

  • @needleonthevinyl sorry bud...you obviously dont know how any of these systems work. the difference between the systems you mentioned and vtec are that vtec changes cam timing AND LIFT & DURATION. the other systems do not. There ARE other systems like this out there NOW, but vtec was one of the very first systems on a poduction car to have this feature. mmmkaaayyyy???

  • @veltdog09 Technically, honda didn't create V-Tec, variable valve timing was on airplanes engine that was manufactured by BMW during the 70 ._. 

  • @CowsAreMyFriendss The cam profile changeover + locking pin + use of oil pressure was ALL UNIQUE to Honda's system. Today a lot of manus. are using oil pressure to engage variable intake flow paths, cam phasor gears (VVT-stuff) and a few other variations of the same. The only really unique system (thought the concept is the same as valvetronic) is Nissan's VVEL which can adjust valve LIFT and DURATION simultaneously and continuously unlike VTEC, i-VTEC (and its variation).

  • @EVLGTR way to talk shit on a three year old video of a car i dont have anymore....lol. if you can read(im assuming you can) its in the video description. the CEL code read a malfunction in the #1 o2 sensor. (thats the one before the cat in case your wondering) so no "dumb and dumber" situation going on. i knew what was wrong and just hadn't bought the replacement sensor yet. i filmed this on the interstate mid road trip so fixing it had to wait till i got back home.

  • the way i understood how hondata explained it is when there is a very noticable sound change in vtec is because the cam angle had to jump too many degrees; or something like that. Hondata prefers that they have fewer power before vtec and a whole lot during vtec.

    Variable valve timing was a great invention, every car this day and age uses it, including those Mustangs you guys brag about being so "leet". This technology is being used by Audi, BMW, MB, Ferrari... hell everyone uses a version of i-VTech or VVTL-i or whatever you want to call it.

    BTW -- Toyota developed the VVT technology back in the 80's almost 10 years before Honda started using it.
