Listening & watchin' Jerry Reed play guitar reminds me of ridin' my bike down dirt trails through the woods when I was a kid.....he's flyin threw the the turns, ain't afriad to get dirty and havin' a blast the whole time...that smile say's it all......
how about brent mason, danny gatton, marty stuart, vince gill, ray flacke, albert lee and check out canadian guy steve pittico he will blow ur socks off too!
Yes Paisley is very very good. So is Tommy Emmanuel, Eric Johnson, and get this ever heard Johnny Hiland. They are just getting better and better, and there's no end.
@xzz0195 Johnny Hiland is outstanding...like Paisley, Hiland is very versatile and is every bit as capable of playing country as he is rock, blues and jazz.
2008 and thats the fuckin guitar tone (sound) we have to deal with. Modern technology and people following it has fucked everything. That guitar would have sounded a million times better if they would have just mic'd it but NO! ya gotta have DI's and built in acoustic pickups. Im against it all because it sounds terrible.
@g2og2og2o I know it sounds curmudgeonly, but it's true...Thank you for saying that. It's a relief to hear someone admit the emperor really has no clothes on. Just a simple microphone...thousands of times better tone. If you have to use a built in pick up, at least use a preamp to fatten it up. The sunrise preamps were OK a few years ago, but I'm not up on these things right now.
I appreciate Brad doing this tribute, but I feel the producers didn't spend enough time to properly pay homage to one of the greatest guitar players of the 20th century. At least give the man a 10 minute tribute!!!
@charger19691 Yes. I'm sure many of the current artists would have loved to jam out to Eastbound N Down. So many of today's artists include that song in their show. (Brad Paisley, Dirks Bentley, and Blake Shelton to name a few). Jerry was a blessing. A wonderful musician, singer, songwriter and actor. We still miss you Jer!
Badfinger, I think it's funny that you list James Burton as a country picker. While he certainly can pick country he is most noted for being Ricky Nelsons guitarist and Elvis Presley's guitarist. I've seen him with countless other early rock and modern rock artist and legends . . . he is truly an legend in his own right.
greg54444: Sadly, that was all of the Jerry Reed tribute. I wish there had been more time allotted for a longer tribute--it would've been great to hear Paisley play all of "The Claw!"
Roy Clark could play the sh*t out of ANYTHING he picked up! And I saw Chet on Merv Griffith when I was 13 playing Dixie and the Star Spangled Banner at the same time. I ran a spot light for him a few years back, and in his 80's he still could play it! Truely Amazing. I would have to say though, that Brad Paisley is one of the best guitar players currently in music, and I don't really like country.... But I LOVE to watch a MASTER on any instrument! I rermember this tribute and it floored me!
langford11592: Some of my favorite older country guitarists are Jerry Reed, Chet Atkins, Merle Travis, Roy Clark and James Burton. Some newer country guitarists who are great as well include Brad Paisley, Steve Wariner, Vince Gill, Brent Mason and John Jorgenson. For some non-country guitarists, Eric Johnson, Wes Montgomery, Sue Foley, Pete Ham (Badfinger), Sonny Landreth, Danny Gatton, Greg Koch, Chuck Berry, Redd Volkaert and Johnny Hiland are among my favorites.
Chet Atkins obviously, and Merle Travis.... then Lenny Breau, and today we are lucky to have Tommy Emmanuel. Other awesome guitarist are Doyle dykes, Scotty Anderson, Brent Mason.. and many more, hope you enjoy them ^^
@langford11592 No offense, but Paisley isn't all that old...although, you could have been talking about Reed considering this is a tribute to him by Paisley. Anyway, some other country guitarists you might want to check out include Chet Atkins, Jerry Reed, Redd Volkaert, Steve Wariner, James Burton, Albert Lee, Brent Mason, John Jorgenson, Tommy Emmanuel and John 5. Do note, however, that not all of those guitarists were/are strictly country. John 5, for instance, mainly plays metal.
Kerry Reed, Chet Atkins and Les Paul. All other just try to follow..... They just can't ever keep up.

. . .unfortuately, there are too many young people who know Jerry as Burt Reynold's sidekick in the "Smokey" films. . .
