The price of the Green Car is a SCAM!! They start at 26k to 31k. My 2009 Corolla cost 6k. Now if Gas cost $4-gal, in one year (at 12,000-miles per year) that would be $1,464. So it would take over 14 years i.e; 14 x $1,464 = $20,496,
(Plus the 6k I paid for my corolla). For a total of = $26,496. So an Electric car will TAKE 14 + Years (minis the cost of charging it) to match a Gas car like Corolla.

The combustion engine car manufacturing industry have been blocking electric cars for decades they have a vested interest to not see these cars become mainstream. In America one manufacturer of CE cars brought out an electric model which sold very well and performed excellently. Then they suddenly withdrew it from the market, even after spending hundreds of millions on development (can't remember name of company).

I personally don't like the name "Global Warming" as it suggests everything will just get slighty warmer, wheras in reality although the average temperature will go up it will cause more unpredictable weather patterns and more or less rainfall depending on region, this means more droughts in arid areas and more flooding in other regions.

I won't give up my classic car just yet because I can't buy a fuel cell vehicle and because it's a piece of history on wheels, plus it's more eco friendly to use an old car than keep buying new ones because a huge proportion of the energy related to car use is from the manufacturing and shipping of them.
It's also a variant of the original Mini which is economical.
@DBSpy1 I use LED lights instead of halogen spotlights in my house, what used to be 50W per unit is now 2.8W per unit, that's a huge waste eliminated and it's also cheaper, not only by lowering my bills but they last longer.

I have said to you already that I belive the hysteria isn't helping, I use a petrol car myself but I do sensible things to reduce my environmental impact.
There are things that you can change that aren't difficult to do like recycling and composting all our waste, in my city we're almost there, only a few kinds of plastic and metal go to landfills.

in 96-98 we turned a chevy s-10 into an electric truck at school...it cost $10,000 to build, used 8 or so batteries (cant remember what type), could smoke the tires and easily top out the transmission (140mph+), but it was governed to 80mph, it could go 200-300 miles on a full charge, took about 2 hrs to charge on 220v, 5-6hrs on 110v.. man i wish i payed more attn... p.m. if you want to know the school, maybe they still got some blue prints...

Just because it's electric mean it has no C02 emissions. The car itself may not emit any C02, but charging it does. Electric cars would only be better than burning oil if the electricity is generated from renewables. If not, burning coal is worse than burning oil.
@StevenMorello who says you have to burn coal. You can use hydro, solar, and wind power. Even with that said, EVs are still ten times more efficient than gasoline cars.
@shechshire Typical thermal efficiency for electrical generators in the industry is around 33% for coal and oil-fired plants, and up to 50% for combined-cycle gas-fired plants. You have to consider that too. I did see a figure that electric cars have 3 times the efficiency of the ICE car, but don't know what figures they are using, say for the oil-well to wheel efficiency. To do a proper comparison you have to compare coal-to-wheel efficiency and oil-to-wheel efficiency.

We Canadians keep forgetting that our governments tax our fuel quite highly in order to pay for various services (originally it was to save the environment but its just plain tax now). What are they to do if they loose this tax... or the tax on alcohol, cigarettes? They would be forced to tax our income in a way which would reveal just how expensive our government services have become.

The trouble is, people expect the government to save us from ourselves. No clearer is this craziness seen the car industry. Cars have to go through stricter and stricter safety and other rules, all the while bicycles, scooters and motorcycles are less safe than a 1960 Austin Mini. In Australia I tried to start an electric car company, but the regualtions to build a car are so prescriptive, it looks like it would be easier for me to import a Chinese car. I know we have to have regulation but look at Henry Ford. We survived and had a revolution, now our industry is being suffocated.

The price of the Green Car is a SCAM!! They start at 26k to 31k. My 2009 Corolla cost 6k. Now if Gas cost $4-gal, in one year (at 12,000-miles per year) that would be $1,464. So it would take over 14 years i.e; 14 x $1,464 = $20,496,
(Plus the 6k I paid for my corolla). For a total of = $26,496. So an Electric car will TAKE 14 + Years (minis the cost of charging it) to match a Gas car like Corolla.

These cars are so terrible it's insane, I knew someone who owned one. It kept breaking, it leaked everywhere and it couldn't climb heavier inclines. The quality really reminds you of a power wheels. I am all for electric vehicles but it's ones like these that give them a bad name.

In America one manufacturer of CE cars brought out an electric model which sold very well and performed excellently. I personally don't like the name "Global Warming" as it suggests everything will just get slighty warmer, wheras in reality although the average temperature will go up it will cause more unpredictable weather patterns and more or less rainfall depending on region, this means more droughts in arid areas and more flooding in other regions.

I won't give up my classic car just yet because I can't buy a fuel cell vehicle and because it's a piece of history on wheels, plus it's more eco friendly to use an old car than keep buying new ones because a huge proportion of the energy related to car use is from the manufacturing and shipping of them.
It's also a variant of the original Mini which is economical.

@DBSpy1 I use LED lights instead of halogen spotlights in my house, what used to be 50W per unit is now 2.8W per unit, that's a huge waste eliminated and it's also cheaper, not only by lowering my bills but they last longer.
I've already passed one university course in environmental studies so I know what I'm talking about.
My statement about global warming being exaggerated was about the way the media portrays it, it doesn't get the message accross correctly.

I have said to you already that I belive the hysteria isn't helping, I use a petrol car myself but I do sensible things to reduce my environmental impact.
There are things that you can change that aren't difficult to do like recycling and composting all our waste, in my city we're almost there, only a few kinds of plastic and metal go to landfills.

Polystyrene doesn't break down in nature, it just sits there or floats in the ocean, what I'd like to see is a massive reduction in the use of unnessisary man made materials that don't break down or have to be sent to landfills.

in 96-98 we turned a chevy s-10 into an electric truck at school...it cost $10,000 to build, used 8 or so batteries (cant remember what type), could smoke the tires and easily top out the transmission (140mph+), but it was governed to 80mph, it could go 200-300 miles on a full charge, took about 2 hrs to charge on 220v, 5-6hrs on 110v.. man i wish i payed more attn... p.m. if you want to know the school, maybe they still got some blue prints...

Just because it's electric mean it has no C02 emissions. The car itself may not emit any C02, but charging it does. Electric cars would only be better than burning oil if the electricity is generated from renewables. If not, burning coal is worse than burning oil.

@shechshire Typical thermal efficiency for electrical generators in the industry is around 33% for coal and oil-fired plants, and up to 50% for combined-cycle gas-fired plants. You have to consider that too. I did see a figure that electric cars have 3 times the efficiency of the ICE car, but don't know what figures they are using, say for the oil-well to wheel efficiency. To do a proper comparison you have to compare coal-to-wheel efficiency and oil-to-wheel efficiency.

We Canadians keep forgetting that our governments tax our fuel quite highly in order to pay for various services (originally it was to save the environment but its just plain tax now). What are they to do if they loose this tax... or the tax on alcohol, cigarettes? The trouble is, people expect the government to save us from ourselves. No clearer is this craziness seen the car industry. Cars have to go through stricter and stricter safety and other rules, all the while bicycles, scooters and motorcycles are less safe than a 1960 Austin Mini. People feel the government needs to do something, when in actual fact, the government should allow true free markets to thrive. What we have now is favouritism for select, larger corportations, NOT a free market!

I have to say I'm becoming more and more a believer that less regulation is better. Just let the market decide. I heard it costs about $1 billion to bring a new car to market in North America, because of all the red tape. That clearly eliminates any startup company (like Zenn), because who besides Toyota or GM (with handouts) can afford that! Honestly, if we stopped bailing out and giving sweetheart deals to the big corporations, then maybe we'd get something resembling a free market!

Not just that we are greatly speeding up the heating of the earth because of carbon monoxide released by our cars. The poles (North and South) are melting away because of the heat increase. In the poles the atmospheric hole is getting bigger everyday that which is suppose to protect us from the sun. We are seeing more environmental irregularities than ever before. Not only are we destroying our planet we are killing innocent people through greed because of wars for oil.

In Australia I tried to start an electric car company, but the regualtions to build a car are so prescriptive, it looks like it would be easier for me to import a Chinese car. I know we have to have regulation but look at Henry Ford. We survived and had a revolution, now our industry is being suffocated.

They're being sold like hot cakes here. These are not cars, they are bigger golf carts with upholstery and glass. Our clients have been buying these like crazy to take advantage of the tax credits for these things. Like they said, low speed vehicles. You couldn't take these things on any normal rode. Neighborhoods, sure. This is nothing like the EV cars that could go 80mph and take you 120 miles on one charge. They were killed. Ask why THOSE aren't being sold, not these rip off golf carts.

How about this. Download Google Earth, zoom in just about anywhere in the middle third of the US and Canada, tell me what you see. Also consider the massive areas of the Amazon that are being cleared to make room for ethanol production. Like I said in the comments here before. Why go through all the trouble of growing ANYTHING to fuel our vehicles when we could have simply use the energy that is falling on our rooftops everyday. It's a retarded idea, literally.

Not proven. Hemp is by far a far more efficient source of ethanol than corn. Also, since governments won't allow many nations to grow industrial hemp, you can't back this up at all. It can grow year round in many places, it requires no herbicide, it grows extemely close to one another, it doesn't destroy the soil, its stock is a work of art an
