I saw Boston at Starwood ampitheater in Nashville 16 years ago. I gotta tell ya it felt like being in a dream. May very well be the best show I've ever been to. I remember being a teen driving around in the summer time with the top down on my little MG Midget jamming out to Brad and Boston. Good memories man.. good memories. Hope Brad finally found the peace he was looking for. It eludes so many of us.
brad sounds just like brad after all the time, they still the same despite bein older, I can feel that place vibrating with the power and synchronicity of the band Boston.
I can't believe it cuts off right in the middle of his most famous note ever sung. perhaps the best high note in rock ever by a male vocalist. and you missed it. :-(
BOSTON always struck a place deep inside me and i suppose they always will. the music, the lyrics, the arrangements are unsurpassable. "nothing's gonna help you more than rock and roll"
I think it’s nice and all that you are paying tribute to Brad for all his musical accolades and everything. But the bottom line is; he was the father of two children who most certainly did not care that their father was a has been rock-star. His selfishness for days gone by far outweighed the needs of his children; and that is truly the tragic aspect of this story.
In 1976, I bought a copy of Boston's first album, having never heard a note of it at all, and it's gotta be one of the best "unheard-of" album buys I ever made. I still have it, the same copy. Still sounds great, too.
Sounds like Brad was just as good as 30 years earlier when they debuted. I can't help but wonder what drove him to suicide, but I suspect "anti-depressants" were somehow involved.
yeah....soo many of the good ones from my youth....Brad, SRV, Freddie, Randy...when one of them goes-no matter how-it is, indeed, the "day the music died."
Yup, he sounded exactly the same in 2006 as in 1976. Boston was so ahead of their time in 1976. Curious. Is the band seen here all the original line-up?
I wish I still had my shirt from the "1st Day of Rock and Roll" in the Louisiana Superdome. Man, what a show! Sammy Hagar, Nazareth, Van Halen, Boston, Heart, Blue Oyster Cult... Throughout the 70's, everyone kept looking for the "next Beatles." When I first heard these guys, I thought they were it!
Oh Brad. You could have gotten help with that inner pain brother. I have been in the ER because of suicide attempt and when I saw the look on my family and friends I knew that wasn't the answer. Your voice was magical in itself. You and Tom were the greatest one two punch ever.
Brad Delp
Robert Plant
Freddie Mercury
That's my top three singers and in order. Vince Neil and Axel Rose can sing a rock song but those top three can sing any song. God Bless Boston and it's fans.
.... from a time when it was all about the Song, and about the craftsmanship of putting that song forward on a live stage. A time when all of that mattered, because it really meant something to people. A time when concerts were cheap but you had to actually buy every single or LP to play it... and the act of just putting vinyl on a turntable was a kind of sacred ritual - you really respected the miracle of music, and what it took to get that bit of electronic magic to your speakers and 'phones.
Brad's voice was such an important part of the Boston sound. If I could only tell him HOW much he was there for me growing up via the lyrics and music. RIP Brad.
I like many 70's & 80's rock bands but none better than Boston. And Brad Delp was my favorite lead singer of all time!! I miss him but was glad i got to see him/them in July of 1997 in Rapid City, SD. Best concert i ever saw .
I'm so sorry Brad...that you felt so much pain. Man you fooled me. I thought you were so happy. But inside you were crying. Thanks so much for all the wonder years of music.
Thank you for posting these videos - this is my only look at their concerts. Boston is a great band and a wonderful group of people with strong morals. Veggie highfive :)
I recently uploaded a live audio performance and photo of the band "Bagshot Row" I was in with Brad and Fran in 1971. It's here on Youtube. You can do a search with Delp and Bagshot to find it if you want to check it out. Hope you're still playing. Take care, Your old piano teacher in Saugus, Bill Hynes
@billpiano Hi Bill I heard the song. Thanks for posting. Three Dog Night was a tough band to cover... and Brad nailed it. Do you still play music ? Do you live in the area ?
Dear TJ, Glad you liked it. I still have a half dozen more, if I ever get to posting them.
The photo was taken in Beverly Ma in the old NS Community College downtown. The gig was recorded at Castle Hill in Ipswich Ma. I'm still teaching in the same Saugus location and have a weekly Jazz Jam.
Are you back to working with your band? Happy Holidays!, Bill
Boston seems to lack something live.. I heard them back in the 70s and they kicked butt, but the rhythm section, namely the bass and drums sound like beginners, Tom, what are you thinking, get this band to kick ass again..
Unfortunately, I never saw Boston with all the originals. I saw them twice with the replacements and sounded great...BUT, there was a difference in sound. I could hear it. I think it's that you can't always get that precise sound from other people as they don't have the same feel as the originals. If you follow what I'm saying. I miss Brad and they could NEVER replace Brad. If they did, It would even come close to the same!!!
hey, we were lucky to get "live" boston, yet alone mr. delps' last gig...i was born in '72...could we ALL ask for this last moment to be our own...as if these tunes are not really IMPOSSIBLE to perfect...his singing was fine. YOU try that!
thanks for the footage, i dig the live stuff...and thanks Boston, and Brad Delp...
Thank you very for sharing this video, it is really generous on your part. The last record my father gave me twenty years ago before passing away was the one that contains "Amanda"... every time that I hear that song I cry remembering my father, but now, I will cry twice missing Brad...

Hey Gotax66. thank you for sharing this experience with us. It's sad that there are too many children arguing back and forth here leaving comments that are unrelated to the music, so I send an extra thank you. Yeah, I do when thy're asshole smartass kids who think they know a lot and feel comfortable insulting people who don't agree with them. And say the vilest things and then, when someone can out-insult them, they throw up their hands and say, "But I'm just a kid" like the little pussy cowards they are. Yeah, then I do. So, fuck you, k?

All I can say is growing up in the 70's, the first time you heard Boston it was like you were steamrolled by the future of rock n' roll - an awesome wall of sound! Unlike anything heard before (or since, truthfully).
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
im sorry but you whom recorded this must be fucking drunk ...why did you cut the best part of the songs , you only hear guitar 99% ...you fucking idiot!!!!!
i love the Boston line up with Brad over any, but today with the new lineup they sound and feel so much more energetic? Good or bad I dont know ecept the fact that Boston still lives on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I know of no other singer that has hit C#6, which is nearly impossibly for a male singer, or a singer that climbed 9 notes and then 11 notes in one line of two separate verses (the middle end of MTaF). Steve Perry, as everyone knows, whether you love or hate Journey, has an undeniably phenomenal voice, but I don't think even Steve Perry has hit C#6!
Freddie Mercury from Queen could hit C#6 surely. I believe the highest he had ever hit was during a live show in 85 or 86 and that was D#6. Brad Delp was an amazing singer as well though.
Boston will always the band that all other Rock & Rock bands are judged against. They were and always will be the best Rock & Rock band ever. Others may have a better guitarist or a better drummer or better keyboardist in some people minds, but, when it comes to a full band, there is no other band better.
i disagree, what made Boston great was their sound & their songs, look how many people came in & out of the band.
if you want to know a band that had great musicians & defined that band that would be The Beatles or the Who, where no one musician in the band could ever be replaced. Boston was two people Tom & Brad, it was Tom's genius & writing & Brads Voice, so i don't agree w/ you, sorry.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
one thing about the beatles though, is that every song they ever played sounds like a piece of fucking shit. they are the most over rated clowns in history. i lived through beatlemania and was never tempted to buy any of their records. even the stones were far better. and i was floored to find that harrison had to get clapton to play while my guitar gently weeps- apparently he had to give him his wife to get him to do it. then george married one of the ugliest beaners in the world.
@turfguy87 lol its ok... ive always been a huge boston fan after listening to them with my dad when i was little lol=) good memories i suppose.. but i do agree "somewhat" LOL
@PrairieKid03 yeah I'm big fans of them both, but Rush is in a league of their own, whether good or bad. Its the double edged sword of being a progressive band. Boston is straight up rock & roll; they're in my top 5 with Van Halen & a few others as well
TJ...it's Q...Was randomly searching some Boston videos and who the F do I see...but you and Billy McLean....nice work dude...Gotta see you and Bill soon...
All I know is this : I was a teenager cruising across North America in the mid 70's in my sooped up 68 Ford Fairlane, Pioneer tape deck just blasting Brad & Tom and the rest of "Boston"
These guys were with me for a big chunk of it and we Fucking rocked...RIP Brad.
yes but fran was with boston for 10 years and could hit the high notes like brad. if tom will get a vocalist that can wail then boston will be back. its toms band but brad was tom's right hand man.
i see what you are saying. brad was the best ever. but fran cosmo is good, i saw that when i saw boston in 1995. i believe there can be a boston without brad. its gonna be diffrent i know, walk on was a good cd that brad didnt sing on. listen to fran on vocals with orion the hunter, he's good. i miss bradalot!!!! boston must keep on. brad would want that
Great tribute TJ! Boston was pretty much my favorite group when they came out. Shoot, they are all I listened to for about two weeks the debut album was so awesome and like nothig else! Wore out about 10 copies of it!
Damn Tom Sholtz! They should have had 5 more albums! Why did they have to waste 8 years on one album?!?!? I wish they could have made more albums with more songs!!
"I closed my eyes and I slipped away...... . . . "very sad to hear Brad sing that - knowing that 4 months later in 2007, he did exactly that. :.(.. Very sad that he took his own life. Incredible voice he had...one of the best frontman a rock band's ever had the honor to have!
There is no way Boston could have sounded as good without Bard Delp's amazing voice. Tom should give him more credit and thank his lucky star that he was part of it. R.I.P. BRAD
Actually, if you ever get a chance to hear Tom Sholz's story about the history of the band, he gives most of the credit to Brad Delp. He also admits that there never even would have been a record deal without Brad. Don't forget, these two guys remained the closest of friends for over 35 years man!! There was alot of mutual respect between the two of them. They were more like brothers than bandmates!
I own their first album on every medium it was ever released on. IE: I have an 8-track, an LP, a cassette Tape, and the CD. Assuming it was never released on reel-to-reel I have them all.
Thanks for posting this vid! 'BOSTON' is timeless... the music is so good and defines an era (70's)! Brad is sorely missed already. What a tragic loss. The only comfort we take is thru his music, and knowing that he is now feeling no pain or stress. R.I.P. Brad Delp... a LEGEND!
I liked how Brad was.He wasnt an asshole like most modern day celebreties are.You can easily go up to Brad and get his autograph and have a nice conversation with him.RIP Brad Delp, greatest singer that ever lived
Millions of Brad's fans are still grieving him and I think we always will. How can you not miss that impressive, captivating, beautiful voice of his, was such a gift, we will cherish it in our hearts and memories for ever. And he was such a kind man!!
when Brad died there wasn't enough press like when heath ledger died which sucks cause i feel that Brad was an awesome artist and he deserved more... oh well RIP your voice will never die in my heaRT...
I saw them in Cleveland, they opened with this song, everyone was just standing around doing nothing like stick people, I freaked out and ran straight up to the front rail, Brad looked right at me and we were pumping our fists in the air, seemed like the entire show was just me and Brad for about 10 seconds. Very sad when I learned what happened last year.
I read he was in a room and lit a grill to produce carbon monoxide, and had posted a note on the room door warning whoever before opening the door that the room was filled with the gas.
Like most American go through clinical depression u know that what they call White Man Burden , Drugs sexs Rock n roll and then boredom same old same old
Yes, some people have the objectivity to enjoy their misery. Then again, it's hard to determine the level of such distress from the outside looking in.
oh my bad i didn't see the first post about Lockheart, only the one about Flutie. I was answering about Flutie, I'm not sure about Lockheart, but I'm guessing it probably is.

All I can say is growing up in the 70's, the first time you heard Boston it was like you were steamrolled by the future of rock n' roll - an awesome wall of sound! Unlike anything heard before (or since, truthfully).
RIP Brad Delp.

i love the Boston line up with Brad over any, but today with the new lineup they sound and feel so much more energetic? Good or bad I dont know ecept the fact that Boston still lives on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know of no other singer that has hit C#6, which is nearly impossibly for a male singer, or a singer that climbed 9 notes and then 11 notes in one line of two separate verses (the middle end of MTaF). Steve Perry, as everyone knows, whether you love or hate Journey, has an undeniably phenomenal voice, but I don't think even Steve Perry has hit C#6!
KarmicOmen 2 years ago 2
Freddie Mercury from Queen could hit C#6 surely. I believe the highest he had ever hit was during a live show in 85 or 86 and that was D#6. Brad Delp was an amazing singer as well though.

Boston will always the band that all other Rock & Rock bands are judged against. They were and always will be the best Rock & Rock band ever. Others may have a better guitarist or a better drummer or better keyboardist in some people minds, but, when it comes to a full band, there is no other band better.
ldr1ff 2 years ago 22
i disagree, what made Boston great was their sound & their songs, look how many people came in & out of the band.
if you want to know a band that had great musicians & defined that band that would be The Beatles or the Who, where no one musician in the band could ever be replaced. Boston was two people Tom & Brad, it was Tom's genius & writing & Brads Voice, so i don't agree w/ you, sorry.

one thing about the beatles though, is that every song they ever played sounds like a piece of fucking shit. they are the most over rated clowns in history. i lived through beatlemania and was never tempted to buy any of their records. even the stones were far better. and i was floored to find that harrison had to get clapton to play while my guitar gently weeps- apparently he had to give him his wife to get him to do it. then george married one of the ugliest beaners in the world.

@PrairieKid03 NOT Rush; sorry man but you don't get a pass on that one :-)
Rush is still one of the top technical & talented groups out there

@turfguy87 lol its ok... ive always been a huge boston fan after listening to them with my dad when i was little lol=) good memories i suppose.. but i do agree "somewhat" LOL
PrairieKid03 8 months ago
@PrairieKid03 yeah I'm big fans of them both, but Rush is in a league of their own, whether good or bad. Its the double edged sword of being a progressive band. Boston is straight up rock & roll; they're in my top 5 with Van Halen & a few others as well

@turfguy87 ur right man=) as far as i can see it me n u think alike when it comes to music

There is no way Boston could have sounded as good without Bard Delp's amazing voice. Tom should give him more credit and thank his lucky star that he was part of it. R.I.P. BRAD
Investrite1 2 years ago
Actually, if you ever get a chance to hear Tom Sholz's story about the history of the band, he gives most of the credit to Brad Delp. He also admits that there never even would have been a record deal without Brad. Don't forget, these two guys remained the closest of friends for over 35 years man!! There was alot of mutual respect between the two of them. They were more like brothers than bandmates!

Did he fill the room with Carbon Monoxide?
That's what I read somewhere. Very sad, indeed. He must have been in a deep state of clinical depression and saw no way out. What a shame.
anhacus 3 years ago
I read he was in a room and lit a grill to produce carbon monoxide, and had posted a note on the room door warning whoever before opening the door that the room was filled with the gas.
