The two reasons why they did badly for so many seasons were Wayne Gretzky and lots of bad draft picks. If you look up draft picks on wikipedia and go down the years you will find that most of the draft picks were either rubbish or moved on to other teams. When the team were in Winnipeg they picked a lot of good picks, but they all eventually got traded away (apart from Doan). The team should have done very well (they made the playoffs in 2001) but bad management has prevented that. Go Yotes!!

I said Gretzky was ONE OF THE REASONS, I'm not blaiming that Gretzky was the only reason we didn't make it to the playoffs when he was coaching. OK, I accept that we haven't got very much depht in our roster and yes, we don't have a lot of fans, but think about for example San Jose. When team was placed in there, everyone thought that there will not be any fans and they can't be succesful and all that shit, and look at them now, one of the Western Conferences best teams and lots of fans.

SJ has only been good the last 5 years and before they had a good team on the ice they had no fans coming out and as soon as they drop in the standing itll happen again. look at tampa they just won the cup a few years ago and wouldnt you know it they are losing and back to selling tickets for $15 playin infront of a less then half filled arena AGAIN. hockey in the south dosnt work unless your team wins! bottom line is you cant rely on factors you have no control over such as winning and losing!

Yep buddy, I accept your opinion. Hockey doesn't work in the south, unless your team wins. I'm from Finland, and I don't care if the Yotes move or not. I will support that organisation where ever they play. When Jets leaved Winnipeg, that wasn't making any sense going somewhere like desert. Las Vegas and Kansas City are not good places for a hockey team. There are 2 time more people in the Phoenix than Kansas City, for example. I hope too, that there would be more Canadian teams in NHL.

yeah 12 years, maybe look up statistics before you claim something. Its actually 7 years. Also in all the years they did make the playoffs they had a great fan base when they were winning. Just people don't like going to see their team lose. So the problem isn't entirely a location one, its either the players or the coach or both. I am more on the side that it is Gretzky's fault, he may have been a great player but that doesn't make you a good coach.
