  • Great orchestra matched perfectly by the voice. Check out Anne Shelton too, All or Nothing at all, excellent also.

  • see how modest women used to be back then :) beautiful

  • How come USA didn't know about this woman, or maybe they did, she was just before my time

  • I wish to do all of her songs :)

  • im trying to find some footage or any photographs or information about someone who sang with Vera Lynn in the early 40s. i only know her name is Rita something. i would love to find out more as this particular lady is my father-in-law's mother and it would be nice to see some music by both of them. they did performances in London together. if anyone can help me that would be great :)

  • @tessgirl90 Rita Streich?

  • lol @medmond6! What a sweet gesture! Dear Vera ! x Many thanks for the post, errefloyd, she is just delightful!

  • I just want to reach into the screen and pat her hair just below her ear (sigh).

  • Does anybody else think that a great singer of the next generation, the beautiful Judith Durham, has something in common with Vera Lynn? Something about both the tone quality/beauty of their voices, as well as their technique and control.

  • Nadherná dáma,nádherná píseň

  • Not to be rude, but she doesn't look anything like her photographs...It's the nose that's throwing me off... :/

  • I'll be forever in love with Vera Lynn

  • Vera Lynn is incredible. Such a beautiful voice!

  • Waiter, a table near the stage and a dry Martini, please!

  • I love it, lovely...

  • I adore this song, it makes me happy hearing it now and then. It is amazing how much music has changed of the last century. Music is one of the most nice things mankind has ever invented.

  • what a grande dame

  • Lol. Random shots of people eating.

    Lovely song. Vera was great.

  • @VoodooVelma vera is still great! number one last year and her new autobiography is a great read.

  • is it strange to feel nostalgic for a time long before i was born?

  • @dsdffdsfdsdsffsd omg just like me! I always feel so nostalgic for times long, long before my generation... it's weird, yet it feels so natural to me...my friends always say i was born in the wrong era, hahaha

  • @1o951o8

When you hear with your heart and spirit the music reaches across time and all barriers. It IS natural.

  • I saw Vera at a function for the RAFA in Manchester, we were on the front row. I was trying to eat a meal but she kept looking at me every time I got a chip half-way to my lips. I must have been a very handsome 18 year old because she kept singing to me and smiling and my chips went cold!

Lovely lady with a lovely old song

  • I agree with Eddy2730...I love this music. Reminds me of happier days when the country pulled together and family values were very meaningful. I was a very young child during the wwII days, but brings back such wonderful memories. I too have a tear in my eye. The really greats are gone and so are those days.

  • This song is so moving that I'm now on the verge of tears.

  • This Lady is fantastic. I remember all these great songs from the war years, but didn't know who was singing them. Hearing them today by Dame Vera Lynn makes them much more meaningful. She is GRAET !!!

  • what a top lady

  • Everything she sings is amazing!

  • Very nice song, typical of the early 1940's with the English feel of having already endured the Blitz. Notice too the very Glenn Miller-ish sound of the band.

  • I love this song!

I wish I could sing like Vera Lynn!

  • Her feeling for her music has always been remarkable. She always establishes a mood vocally and physically. She is always on key, always has perfect intonation, has impeccable pronunciation and of course there is that catch in her voice. She also has a remarkable range. She certainly had a gorgeous figure and wore clothes fabulous. She wasn't classically beautiful but there's no question the camera loved her. And that flawless complexion!

  • Some day I will meet my daughters again,

  • those days were so much better so enjoyable to hear vera lynn

  • i love Vera Lynn...

    for all

  • You know if there were any nightclubs like this, I'd go out. but you won't catch me barflying in any of these modern bars.

  • @mk5wantsCF

I went as a kid with my mother and cousins to a fancy club with food not as fancy as this one. It had class with a brass rail and beautiful murals. Was given a choice if I wanted a Shirley Temple or a Roy Rogers. It was usually ginger ale with grenadine and garnished with orange slices little umbrella. I was 5 and sat only 4 feet from the bar.

  • @mk5wantsCF Same here :) I guess we are old souls..

    Steph

  • how wonderful is this ,beats all the horrible rap stuff we have to listen to today

  • Oh yes, absolutely true what you said !!!!!

    I couldn´t agree more !!!!!!!!!!!

  • i agree with you

  • @wizzwamf Hear hear!

  • @wizzwamf exactly and the singer is much prettier than the trashy slutty singers of today.

  • @wizzwamf You got that right. Music today has gone right downhill. Im only 40 & love Vera's voice.

  • Very rare to see video footage of her singing, one of my all time favourite vocalists - listening to her flawless technique really started me wanting to sing. I was lucky enough to be able to pay tribute her tutoring recently while fronting a uk based dance band - hopefully I did her proud...

Do come and check it out fellow Vera fans on my page! x

  • I met Dame Vera last night at the South Bank in London. She was in the Olivier Theatre first and doing a book signing after. What a Lady !

  • Vera Lynn is a towering voice above and beyond the singers of the era. She did a great job of raising the morale of the English through out the war. Such beauty of voice and her contribution to all that is fine and worthy entertainment in the world in in sharp contrast to that madman Hitler who made promises of bringing Germany to new heights of glory but instead brought ruin and shame to a great country and left it in ruins..

  • i bought a lot of her songs, but i really want this song, anyone know where i can find it?

  • vera received and answered 2000 letters a week all tipped out on her mum's dining room table. visited the sick in hospital, traveled as far as Burma to sing free for the troops. What a lovely person, why cant we be remined more often of the many good people in this world! Pete kiwi Keegan.

  • Is this from a feature film or just a "musical short" they used to do back in the day? Thank you for posting this. She is an awesome woman and one of the great voices of the 20th Century.

  • aspettando Amy Winehouse...

  • For creating such beauty, God must be very proud of "himself"

  • Vera Lynn, Finest singer of her generation, if not all time! I MUST see her 3 movies, Doe's anyone know where one might find/buy them? I will not rest until I've found them. This clip may be from "We'll Meet Again"(1942) 10 Plus

  • Sadly, they are not commercially available. Rhythm Serenade and We'll Meet Again have been shown on BBC television in the UK within the past 20 years, but her last film, One Exciting Night, was known some years ago to be in serious need of preservation.

  • I adore this song! Thanks so much for sharing. What a voice. Does anyone know where to find the mp3 of this?? Thanks

  • still alive too

  • Right you are, Onion: The finest female voice ever heard.

  • The best voice in the universe, Vera Lynn. Her songs make me happy allways. The best "shit" youll ever hear in your life-time.

  • I need the lyrics of this song, because there are some words that I can't understand very well...Thank you all!!!

  • How emotionally brave people were in Vera's day. But then they great songwriters and singers like Vera to give them heart. Thank you Vera!

  • vera what has become of you?

  • Incredibly beautiful! Thanks so much for sharing. Does anyone know if this is available on CD?
