im trying to find some footage or any photographs or information about someone who sang with Vera Lynn in the early 40s. i only know her name is Rita something. i would love to find out more as this particular lady is my father-in-law's mother and it would be nice to see some music by both of them. they did performances in London together. if anyone can help me that would be great :)
Does anybody else think that a great singer of the next generation, the beautiful Judith Durham, has something in common with Vera Lynn? Something about both the tone quality/beauty of their voices, as well as their technique and control.

I adore this song, it makes me happy hearing it now and then. It is amazing how much music has changed of the last century. Music is one of the most nice things mankind has ever invented.
& I jolly well like the look of the two RAF Pilots in the audience........ but its a trife sad i will never meet them.... bad show :(
Lol I love speaking RAF talk, they were the coolest chaps ever, the lucky WAFF's! What i would do to go to a squadron dance....... SOMEONE INVENT A TIME MACHINE!
@dsdffdsfdsdsffsd omg just like me! I always feel so nostalgic for times long, long before my generation... it's weird, yet it feels so natural to me...my friends always say i was born in the wrong era, hahaha
I saw Vera at a function for the RAFA in Manchester, we were on the front row. I was trying to eat a meal but she kept looking at me every time I got a chip half-way to my lips. I must have been a very handsome 18 year old because she kept singing to me and smiling and my chips went cold!
I agree with Eddy2730...I love this music. Reminds me of happier days when the country pulled together and family values were very meaningful. I was a very young child during the wwII days, but brings back such wonderful memories. I too have a tear in my eye. The really greats are gone and so are those days.
This Lady is fantastic. I remember all these great songs from the war years, but didn't know who was singing them. Hearing them today by Dame Vera Lynn makes them much more meaningful. She is GRAET !!!
Very nice song, typical of the early 1940's with the English feel of having already endured the Blitz. Notice too the very Glenn Miller-ish sound of the band.
Her feeling for her music has always been remarkable. She always establishes a mood vocally and physically. She is always on key, always has perfect intonation, has impeccable pronunciation and of course there is that catch in her voice. She also has a remarkable range. She certainly had a gorgeous figure and wore clothes fabulous. She wasn't classically beautiful but there's no question the camera loved her. And that flawless complexion!
I went as a kid with my mother and cousins to a fancy club with food not as fancy as this one. It had class with a brass rail and beautiful murals. Was given a choice if I wanted a Shirley Temple or a Roy Rogers. It was usually ginger ale with grenadine and garnished with orange slices little umbrella. I was 5 and sat only 4 feet from the bar.
Very rare to see video footage of her singing, one of my all time favourite vocalists - listening to her flawless technique really started me wanting to sing. I was lucky enough to be able to pay tribute her tutoring recently while fronting a uk based dance band - hopefully I did her proud...
Do come and check it out fellow Vera fans on my page! x

Vera Lynn is a towering voice above and beyond the singers of the era. She did a great job of raising the morale of the English through out the war. Such beauty of voice and her contribution to all that is fine and worthy entertainment in the world in in sharp contrast to that madman Hitler who made promises of bringing Germany to new heights of glory but instead brought ruin and shame to a great country and left it in ruins..
vera received and answered 2000 letters a week all tipped out on her mum's dining room table. visited the sick in hospital, traveled as far as Burma to sing free for the troops. What a lovely person, why cant we be remined more often of the many good people in this world! Pete kiwi Keegan.
Is this from a feature film or just a "musical short" they used to do back in the day? Thank you for posting this. She is an awesome woman and one of the great voices of the 20th Century.
Vera Lynn, Finest singer of her generation, if not all time! I MUST see her 3 movies, Doe's anyone know where one might find/buy them? I will not rest until I've found them. This clip may be from "We'll Meet Again"(1942) 10 Plus
Sadly, they are not commercially available. Rhythm Serenade and We'll Meet Again have been shown on BBC television in the UK within the past 20 years, but her last film, One Exciting Night, was known some years ago to be in serious need of preservation.
Is there anyone who can compare to Vera Lynn? What an incredible and beautiful voice! She has such a beautiful and plaintive quality to her singing. They don't make singers like her anymore. A true star!
Great orchestra matched perfectly by the voice. Check out Anne Shelton too, All or Nothing at all, excellent also.
