  • This is still the most remarkable driving performance in F1 for the last 20 years. Sorry Senna fans, it just was.

  • Wow what a cheat, how dare he get stuck in 5th gear and disadvantage the rest of the field! LOL. The amount of times you read, he used illegal Launch control etc, well he didnt need it here and basically made fun of all his rvals here, like he did many seasons afterwards.

  • I belive Benetton had not cheated in this race - low revs don´t need TC ....

  • Comment removed

  • in 94 every circuit's most dangerous corner are replaced with that shit

  • his Benetton B194 stuck in the 5th gear, BRILIANT DRIVE and they took about fuel consuption,.is'ts gear box problem

  • Tyres invadin' mah track

  • If they had had the 2005 US Grand Prix with ALL the drivers something like that would have been added to infamous turn 13 to slow the cars down.

  • That's not a chicane . It looks like an escape route.

  • @azpeev wrong it is was a temporary chicane put there to slow the drivers down. from what I remember none of the drivers liked it and was put there as there was a concern that it was too fast of a corner

  • @panik808 More like a typical knee-jerk reaction from the FIA following Senna's death.

  • @tugatomsk True, I think the pronlem was not that the tires were put there to slow them down but the hieght of them was a bit too much. They could have easily placed some sort of curbing the either by cluing and bolting them down or actually cut the road and pour concrete to make rumble strips. I am not sure what kind of curbing they use in Monaco but they could have used the same.

  • @panik808 Great idea there. :) But the FIA is too daft to come up with it...

  • the chicanes lol wtf!

  • That tire wall chicane is breaking every safety regulation by just being there! xD

  • that chicane is nuts!

  • schumacher!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • lol at those chicanes in middle of track, now days drivers would scream at sight of them.

  • That tyre wall chicane before the La Caxia complaex is the epitomy of a kneejerk reaction. I hate the chicanes that were added after Senna's accident, that really took the soul out of some tracks.

  • Different lines to conserve fuel?? Not sure about that...?Theres one racing line because it is effectively the shortest distance at the fastest speed. There isn't a huge amount of scope to deviate, unless its wet. Being stuck in 5th would be what saved fuel...

  • @Jizzle76 sounds odd to me too , but how can we argue with someone who has done it and claims it to be true . and someone of this caliber . i will take his word on it . now how much can you save ?? thats another thing

  • Senna won the Brazilian GP in one gear as well.

  • Schumacher's ability to drive around a problem is, or was one of his greatest strengths. This was an incredible performance, a true genius

  • this chicane was a temporary result of the fatal crashes in imola !!

  • exacto, una medida tan fugaz como gilipollas (pero ya sabemos como son)

  • did love the sound of that Williams.

  • what kind of crazy ass chicane is that?

  • @MrRodzilla that was absolutely stupid putting those tyres in for that chicane, someone could easily crash and the race could've been stopped.

  • @MrRodzilla

    Because of Senna and Ratzenberger!

  • @MrRodzilla this GP was after Senna's death and drivers and FIA were concerned about security because that was a really fast corner so they decided to put some tyres to slow down the cars

  • @MrRodzilla : Following Ratzenberger's and Senna's deaths the FIA instituted a number of knee jerk changes that included those hokey tire wall chicanes to slow the cars.

  • @MrRodzilla - Erm, VERY crazy. lol

  • @MrRodzilla ah ah so true, it came out from NOWHERE !

  • The car was stuck in 5th gear and still he managed to finish in 2nd.Amazing...

  • is it 5th gear out of 7 gears?

  • no, its 5th gear out of 6 gear transmission

  • He is the best the greatest the genius NO DOUBT this is a big fac why he holds 7 wc

  • @Ferraristaaa because Senna died before he could challenge Schumacher.

  • It started just before his first pitstop...if you get the chance to see the full race, or even highlights, you can see the producer switching between Schumacher's car and the Benetton management.

  • His greatest performance

Drive with faulty gearbox for 40 laps from his 1st pit stop to the end, unbelievable

    The greatest ever

  • Senna 1991. Drove 24 laps with 4 gears (2nd and 4th weren't working) drove 9 laps with ONE gear. The 5th. Even though he was so far ahead, he won. Without the fastest car. When he completed the race, he black out and his hands were like sponges on blood.

    The greatest ever.

Schumacher driving a car so much better than any other and getting a good result is not even comparable. Schumacher was excellent and the car was even better. With all those driving aids.

  • @Taikamya

You don't know Formula One mate to say that about Schumacher...

You should watch Spanish '94 GP from start to finidh and you'll understand

For your knowledge, Schum hasn't got the best car in '94, the B194 chassis was inferior to the FW16 chassis... and he's been World Champion in '94, '95 and '2000 with an inferior car compared to Williams Renault & Mc Laren Mercedes...

Why do you always wanna compare all performances of Ayrton & Michael ?

Ayrton was a fantastic driver & each

  • @martinenq You're not factoring in that Schumi also had traction/launch control in 94 and the fuel filler cheat.

  • @flohtingpoint but of course....but of course.....that's why he hasn't won '95, '00, '01, '02, 03 & '04 championships, in these cars, there wasn't TC or "fuel filler cheat" like you said...so he couldn't win...

it's well-known afer '94 Michael has'nt won anymore...just a few driving demonstrations, a very tough challenge with Ferrari without drivers titles since '79 & 81 wins with the best car only in 2001,2002 & 2004...Michael without "TC and fuel filler cheat" , it isn't really bad huh? lol

  • @martinenq

After reading all this Comment here it seems to me, that you are the only one here who really watch F1...

And not only wright Stupid Comment about some thing he got no Clue, like the other here.

  • @Taikamya

driver has benn a milestone of his era: Fangio, Clark, Stewart,Lauda,Prost,Senna & Schumacher.

You'd better respect another point of view. To say that you say, you have never watched Spanish '94 GP . Why do you always speak about Senna when it's a Michael video?

Ayrton was a great driver but Michael has no reason to be jealous of him and the difference since you like comparaisons between the 2 drivers is that Schum is a builder, that he has done for Ferrari is exceptionnal, Ferrari

  • @Taikamya

was without Drivers Titles since 1979 whereas Senna won '88 (with less points than Prost) and '90 championship with a superior car and '91, McLaren was overtaken by Williams during the 2nd half of the season. So you can like both drivers without always compare them.

    Senna was unforgettable and fantastic

Schumacher is a legend and to my mind and lots of connoisseurs the greatest ever.

  • I'd like to see Lewis Hamilton try that one, he wouldn't have a clue!

  • 1:29 - FUCKING CHICANE!!!

  • what the hell is that 1:30 now thats not safe :)))

  • it was chicane put in at many of the circuits in lew of the death of senna and razenburger at imola........they were very micky mouse and dangerous and for the 1995 season were taken out

  • FUCKING chicanes! I remember that chicane (Nissan curve - Montmeló) and others in Belgium (Eau Rouge's entrance) and Canada.

  • @moye41 It has to be the stupidest chicane ever, I don't know how they made it without any crashes in this race, but they did for safety.

  • That was one of Schumis finest performances in a F1 car.

  • that tire wall is dumb.

  • ...safey tire wall :-) ...after the montermini's crash

  • 1:30: Stupid chicane at Nissan curve ¬¬

  • wtf is that in the middle of the track? tire walls?

  • the tyre walls were put in b4 the the long straight to reduce the top end speed afer what happened in imola that year.

  • That tire wall is more dangerous than anything else... it's so tight ! O.O

  • Den Motor von Hills Williams zu hören erinnert mich sehr an Ayrton Sennas und das macht mich traurig

  • i'm with you senninho, bring f1 decade back instead these garbage nascar shows.

  • Senna got stuck in 6th gear when he won at Interlagos in '91. Those 3.5L engines had a lot of low end, even the V12's did.

  • could you imagine Senna doing that sort of thing with a turbo v6, v10 or v12 (i.e. the engines he used to win his titles)?

  • He did it my friend. Senna won Interlagos 91 stuck in 6TH GEAR!

  • How long was he stuck in 6th gear?

  • I think Senna himself could explain that better:

    watch?v=RL67HU93o1Y

I think it was a lot more effort because he had to jump gears at some parts, and interlagos has uphills and downhills, lots of slow corners. Jerez doesn't.

  • Not to mention the difference between the engines. It was WAY easier to run with a Ford Zetec-R engine (that had a massive torque) stuck in 5th than to run a Honda V-12 engine in 6th!

  • @LouieGee:

You has driven both cars or what? :D

  • You don't need to drive these engines to know that. It's a basic mechanics knowledge.

  • Senna wasn't stuck in 6th. He last 2 gears, he was having to use his arm to keep the gear in, that's why he was screaming, " My fucking Arm!" If you listen to the end of the race, he explained that his arm was in so much pain.

  • Nope, he was stuck in 6th gear. If you take a close look at the inboard camera of his car at the end of the race you can see that both of his hands are holding the driving wheel, and none of them move away from it.

  • @LouieGee:

The Honda V12 has a turbocharger the benetton not. If you use a turbo you have more torque and more power than a normal engine. furthermore you don't know something about the conversion which is dependent from track and revolution speed of th used engine. A V8 has a higher conversion than a V10 or a V12 because it's max revolution speed is lower. But it's equal. Its impossible to compare sennas and schumachers problem. Both drove on other tracks in different cars.

  • Comment removed

  • 1º - Turbocharged engines were BANNED in '89, we're talkgin about '91. So you're totally wrong. And back in 1988 McLaren used a V6 Turbo, not a V12.

2º - A turbo engine needs a high RPM ultil the turbo is fully charged. The turbo is useless in low revs and that's exactly what happened to Senna in '91. He was running his car in extremely low revs. It doesn't matter anyway, since Senna wasn't driving a turbo.

Yes it is possible to compare and Schumacher's task was easier.

  • Sorry LouieGee i don't think so:

You can't compare two drivers in two purely different cars. Furthermore I have heard that senna must hold the sixt gear - thats a difference. In which race has senna this prob? Do you have a link to this race? Something to the engines:

If you have more RPM you use a lower conversion ratio. In the case of a V8 engine you have a high ratio to obtain the required speed with lower rpm and the advantage of higher torque is away.

  • Yes we can, and I'll tell you why later.

Senna wasn't holding the sixth gear, he was putting all his energy on the whell with both hands at the end of the race.

You've made some mistakes. Both engines (the Ford Zetec V8 from the B194 and the Honda V12 from the MP4/6) had 11000 RPM.

If you have the same RPM and less cylinders (as the Benetton had) that means you have a higher piston course of action. In other words, more torque, which was an advantage for Schumacher.

  • Oh, and the link:

    watch?v=3Fy3DAED31Q

just copy it and paste after youtube's adress. See how Senna keeps both hands on the wheel, meaning he is neither changing gears, nor "holding" the sixth gear.

And pay attention to the sound of the engine as well, you can tell how low were the revs at that point.

  • I have seen this video and its seems to be that senna has his prob at the and of his race and a big advance. I can't see the second placed driver.

  • The secondo place driver was Riccardo Patrese, and he was 2,9 seconds behind Senna at the end of the race.

  • I think you are right, I must have gotten bad info

  • That Ford-Cosworth Zetec-R engine was incredible in that year. No way could you have done that with a V10 or a V12. The V8 had such massive torque it enable Schumacher to pull away in the pits from 5th! Can't even do that in my road car diesel!

  • One of his greatest ever drives.

  • look at the extra chicane, they build up there, that year.

  • i noticed that too....bring them back :D

  • yes, good idea. ;-)

  • I can't believe F1 Decade is gone! :( That is the show I miss the most on NASCAR/Reality Junk channel...

  • totally agreed show was great have 2005 (95 season) on tape

  • I can't believe he finished second with that car in 5th for most of the race.

  • But he did!!! That's Schumi!

  • hakkinen was catching him, but his engine exploded...an incredible performance overall, but that's schumacher...

  • 15000 RPM
