@MuddynoderMuddeen Perhaps, you have forgotten that WW 1 & WW 2, were European Wars, and not American, or Canadian !!! The US has never had a " 100-years war " USA engagements shall never equal Europe's " Bloodlust " & dangerous " Imperial greed " bent on the enslavement of a fair percentage of Mankind.
@MrJeffreydunson Absolutely right. That is why the US had to declare its independence, to avoid being dragged in to European wars. It is false that one class of man is born saddled ready for riding, and another class is born with boots and spurs, ready to ride. Though we had our own very bloody fight with that pernicious heresy, we are more free of it than Europe.
@DonMeaker Most of today's major problems, let's say the Mideast , is due too mainly British and French Govts. drawing of borders in former colonies, and the harm it did to the peoples of that region ( and they both know it.)
@MrJeffreydunson I disagree. Much of the unpleasantness has to do with the lack of British and French borders within the former Palestine Mandate, wherein sit Israel, Jordan, Gaza, and the West Bank. The rest comes from the local's govt decisions to distract their citizens by foreign adventures. At some time, if you want peace, you move, or you put up with the local government. If you don't want peace, you can blame the Brits and French (or the Jews!).
@MrJeffreydunson The slight difference between AK-47s and M-16s in the hands of Arabs is countered by the information gained during training.
The US didn't sell arms to Iraq during the time of Saddam Hussein. Rather we provided humanitarian medical support. That actually ended well, as we knew where the Germans had built his bunkers, and his weapons were mostly throwaway T-72 "Deathtrap" and French "No-Role" fighters.
Such a good tank and the M1A3 is going to be equipped with the longer 120mm gun found on the Leapord 2 atleast thats what i read. But otherwise these tanks are badass, Leapord 2, Challenger 2, and Abrams the 3 best tanks the West can offer.
Love the Video. There are a few observations I have about the Leopard. It looks like a great tank, but I wonder if that HUGE SHOT TRAP on the front of the turret might be a problem in combat. What is it like in extreme heat/cold? Also how can someone call the tank "The Best" when it has never been in real combat or combat conditions? It seems to have it all. Modern fire control, Chobham armor, 120MM gun, great engine. There are just way too many questions concerning real combat.
@minuteman3 Afghanistan doesn't count as a real war? BTW please don't mention Gulf War 1/2 as more of a real war. They were turkey shoots with Abrams tanks facing of against poorly trained crews in vastly inferior export T72 model tanks.
We will receive all poor people from Europe, as we historicaly did, when this contemporary crisis becomes even more serious and devastating. When Europe and North America sucumb in civil wars, imigrant massacres and generalised economical disasters, the poor survivors will imigrate to Brazil, to begin a new life. And we will receive you in peace and happiness, to help you to get a new life. Stop war, stop hate, stop racism! We're all human beings!
@chxavier2 god you're full of shit man. there was not a single war in Europe since WWII. and there won't be thanks to the EU. and what "contemporary crisis" are you talking about?
@MuddynoderMuddeen You forget the Serbia/Bosnia/Croatia wars. I figure the financial problems of the (Portugal, Italy, Greece, Spain) PIGS will lead to an export of good people who don't want to pay up to the neck taxes for lazy government workers. Here in the US we will fire some of our lazy government workers and keep our tax rates low.
@DonMeaker i don't think that people will leave their country just because it is in dept. People don't leave the U.S. for that either. people will only leave when they loose their home or don't have enough to eat or ar being pursued. that's why the U.S. has so many Irish and German immigrants for example. i reckon that in 2 years everybody will have forgotten that this crisis even existed. it really is the media that makes such a big fuss about it.
@MuddynoderMuddeen people will leave when they are hungry, being left poor by government taxes. that is why we have so many recent Russian immigrants, Mexican immigrants. Once Greece can't borrow money, they may default, or may try to collect taxes. Either way the government thuglettes will try to collect, thus leaving the non-government people hungry...
@DonMeaker don't think so. srsly. why would a german emigrate to the us, cus we are helping out Greece? then I'd rather go to surrounding countries or every Germans dream: New Zealand
@MuddynoderMuddeen I am aware that having a foreign policy that promotes democracy and doesn't take over great swathes of the globe is not understood by Germans, French, Russians, or British. I don't think that it is anything of which to be ashamed, rather I think of it as a point of pride.
@MuddynoderMuddeen Glad you agree that we really didn't go to war for oil. I prefer ethical oil from Canada tar sands to troublesome oil from the middle east, but we have oil in Alaska, California and the gulf of Mexico, as well as the Dakotas, and oil can be synthesized from natural gas or coal. Fischer Tropp is the future. Now if we could just sack the current Assad before he murders too many more...
@DonMeaker you should be ashamed. you should be ashamed to not see that your Goverment bullshits you. you DID go to war for oil and messed even that up. you should be ashamed to defend the foreign policy of a country who is the biggest threat to world peace. and you should be ashamed to claim the i as a german still need to be ashamed of my country. my grandma was 8 when the war ended by the way -.-
@MuddynoderMuddeen Except we didn't go to war for oil. Rather we went to shut down terrorists and a dictator, who, like pirates of old, are the enemies of all mankind. Iraqis helped us defeat the terrorists, and we partially drained the swamp of terrorists from all over the mideast. German doctors continued to murder people with medical problems long after the war. I spend 4 years in Germany, and we seemed to get along together. I served in Gelnhausen, on the Fulda gap.
@MuddynoderMuddeen Your commi buddy on the other channel jumps around a bit, but has his facts wrong. It was Germany that armed Iraq, not the US. Pinochet didn't kill Allende, Allende committed suicide when he realized that he would not be permitted to destroy Chile. East Germany murdered its own citizens who tried to get away, and 25% of East Germany escaped to the west before the Berlin wall, voting with their feet as Lenin put it.
@MuddynoderMuddeen Your commy buddy has his facts wrong. Yes, communism murdered at lest 60 million people in Soviet Union, probably more in China. Allende committed suicide when he was not to be permitted to destroy Chile. Pinochet wouldn't permit the institutionalized theft and murder that is communism. Chile is free and prosperous now, due to the good work of Pinochet. I had two roommates in high school, one from Colombia the other from Chile.
@MuddynoderMuddeen US, with our allies have established democracy in Germany, France, Italy, Belgium, Greece, Bosnia, Iraq, Afghanistan, S.Korea, Japan. By contrast Germany has established democracy....
@DonMeaker we have a lot of problems with your precious democracy friend. but you wanna get historical? okay. how about the extiction of the indian tribes. or is that a great part of your history aswell. did you bring them democracy too? that's all i have to say to that. it makes no sense to discuss important matters with an american who is blind of patriotism, who has a rock hard erection for america, who has a childish love for america, that only wants to see how awesome america is.
@MuddynoderMuddeen The US didn't drive any Indian tribes to extinction. None. Extinctions happened, before the US, as policy of the European monarchies, or by accident: (the germ theory of disease was yet unknown). It makes little sense to discuss and educate Europeans, but we seem to have to do it every few years. Every generation Americans go to Europe for military service and thus Americans know some European history. Europeans don't come to visit us near as often. I am part Mohawk.
@MuddynoderMuddeen Learning a bit of history today? You are the fellow who asserted there were no European wars since WWII, the guy who forgot or didn't know about the European wars between Bosnia-Herzegovinia and Serbia? We know our native Americans. They are our neighbors, local business men, our squad mates in the service, and often relatives.
@shoutingGuard The major die off of the native tribes occurred by disease, in the time of the colonization of monarchies, mostly by disease, long before the germ theory of disease was known or understood. It occurred before the US was independent. By contrast, the German murder of cripples, the retarded, Jews, Gypsies, homosexuals, and yes, members of the Confessing Church occurred using medical science, perverted to facilitate murder. A shameful act, for which its perpetrators are responsible
@DonMeaker Riiight. You Yanks really don't have any shame. Germans are at least sorry for what they did. You make up excuses and excuses and excuses... Those Indians probably massacred themselves at wounded knee. Those Cowboy western movies were probably filmed by Indians, to celebrate their murderers.
Get real, you made a culture on genocide, by celebrating Cowboy movies and stereotyping Indians as bad guys that are only good if they are dead.
@shoutingGuard We have no shame because there is nothing about which to be ashamed. Wounded knee had many soldiers who died by friendly fire as they tried to protect Indians, not the work of genicide. Again, though only 250,000 to 280,000 Indians were left in the early 20th Century, there were only about a 1.3 million to start (though much uncertainty) and most of the dying was due to disease or the policy of the monarchies before the US was independent. By contrast the US vaccinated Indians.
@DonMeaker Sorry mr genocide denier, but you are liar. On territories that are today known as USA, there were about 12 million indians of various ethnic and tribal identity. Most of them lived on far West, where British colonizers didn't even set foot. Cowboys killed them all. Claimed that only good Indian is a dead Indian. And then made a movies about that.
By contrast, Latin America had even more indians. They are still alive, Spainards didn't kill them. Just taught them Spanish.
@shoutingGuard Wrong bucko. The number of natives is unknown. Estimates range from 1.2 to 12 million. Disease killed most indians, mostly smallpox. In the west, where the British didn't go, we have many Indian reservations with many Indians very much alive. Sheridan said "the only good Indian I ever saw was dead." but spent a lot of time working to pacify them. The US inoculated Indians with cowpox beginning in 1803 and the Lewis and Clark expedition, to protect them, and us from smallpox.
@DonMeaker Umm.. yeah. And Jews gassed themselves while refueling lighters. True story.
Why so much western movies when cowboys kill Indians? If you didn't kill them, why do you make movies praising Indian-killing cowboys? Your excuses don't make sense. It is obvious that USA is a genocidal country.
What if Al Qaeda disseminates anthrax all over USA, would that be ok? Because that is what you did to Inidians. Except you used other diseases. But biological weapons are biological weapons.
@DonMeaker Even to put them in reservates is disrespectful and kinda racist behavior. Adesease killed the most indians? What about wounded knee? The way of tears? The desease was that europeans came to america and infiltrated their culture.
@bernisweltredsun The reservations are the territories retained by the Indians after various treaties. Indians are full US citizens, and can leave the reservations when ever they want. On the reservations non-indians have fewer rights, and Indians get significant support from the US govt-taxpayer. You are right. The Europeans came to America, and the deaths of most indians were due to the Europeans, (not from Americans), and their diseases. By contrast syphilis came to Europe from the Americas.
LOL guys you dont know what is it tank REALL TANK :):) M1A2 the best tank in the world and russian tanks is a lol just ROFL buhehe muhehe leopard too abrams alweis in conflict leopard in home rofl :D:D:D:D: t 90 in alcohol :D:D
back in the 80's when i lived in germany the abrams lost from the leopard 2 tanks wich where used by the dutch army ina excersice shooting in Bergen in germany excuse typing error's
The Challenger has the best armor but it sacrifices agility for protection. Compared to all the other modern MBTs it has the worst power to weight ratio. Considering that no armor, not even the best one will stay immune to the newest anti armor weapons for long, pretty much all experts agree that the decision to go "light and powerful" (the designers of the Leo2, the Leclerc, the Abrams and the T90 made), was better than to go "maximum protection and just sort of mobile enough".
Its armour is the best along with the Leopard 2 (One of them anyway) they have the same armour but the Challenger 2 has something else (Classified obviously) which helps it, it took 12 RPG's and an anti-tank misslie but nobody was killed and the tank was fighting in 6 hours.
The next big thing in tank development is active protection systems. If those really get going, the Challenger 2 will definitely be obsolete. With 300 horse powers less and being heavier than all the other western MBTs, it doesn't have much spare capacity to carry additional weight in form of an active protection system and its slightly better armor will be rendered pointless. The best armor is the armor that never gets hit with anything and that is what active protection is about.
Well, perhaps it is a matter of taste. I think the fact that the newest versions of the Leo2 carry around about 8 tonnes more armor than the original, "naked" version, in form of modular armor packs and it still is one of the most agile and fast MBT in the world is pretty impressive. The Challenger just doesn't have that kind of flexibility. I think the "powerful engine + modular, exchangeable protection"-philosophy behind the Leo is a better way to go than the C2's "as is" design.
Also remember the C2's cannon is best in the world, but there is only 1 true way to see, but because Britain and Germany are both in the UN and EU etc, they will never fight.
Hehehe, don't get me started on the gun. I could write a lot here about why smoothbore guns are the better choice for tanks. Suffice it to say that there are good reasons why the Russians, Americans, Germans, French, Israelis and basically everybody else, except the British are using smoothbore tank guns now. No, the British engineers do not know something all the others don't know. I'm very sure the next British tank, if there ever again is one, will have a smoothbore gun too.
Modern smoothbore tank guns hit pretty much every target at 3 miles. That is more than accurate enough and comes without the disadvantages of a rifled gun.
For a line of sight weapon of this caliber, guided by a modern fire control system, there is just no point to rifling. If you'd like to use your tank as a self propelled howitzer, shooting in an arc at targets beyond line of sight, then the Challenger's gun is better, sure, but that is not what tanks are supposed to do.
That doesn't mean the concept is better. Smoothbore guns can fire self propelled, guided or self guiding rockets (the Russian 125mm gun is specially designed for that and the Israelis just developed some that can be fired with the normal Rheinmetal gun the Leo2, Abrams and Merkava use) which have longer ranges than every normal projectile of the same calibre.
Again, flexibility versus rigidity.
The rifled gun is what it is and nothing more, the smoothbore gun evolves.
Even more than the inflexible design the choice to go with a rifled gun shows a shocking lack of creativity, vision and even understanding of where tank design would go by the C2's designers.
They just took what was already an outdated design concept for how a modern tank could look like 20 years ago and just made it a bit better protected and tweaked a thing or two here and there, otherwise totally ignoring everything that was going on outside their laboratory.
Basically they just put all into developing their fancy new armor and treated the rest of the tank as an afterthought. They just lazily cobbled together a machine to carry the Chobham armor around.
You say it is the best, but you don't say what makes it the best. It isn't the gun, I can tell you that much. Don't you think if a rifled tank gun would bring any advantages, at least one other modern MBT would have one? (I assumed as a tank enthusiast you know why, but I'll write something about it in the next comment.) It even isn't the armor, as we have established and it certainly isn't the weaker engine.
The two most important types of ammo a MBT fires are HEAT charges and tungsten/uranium sabbots. Both work better if the projectile doies not spin. A HEAT charge forms a jet of super hot and super fast gas when it explodes. You don't want the HEAT round to spin because that will cause it to wobble, which is no problem for a conventional grenade, but it causes the hot gas jet to dissipate and unfocus. Instead of hitting the target with all its engery on a small spot...
...a wobbling HEAT rounds gas jet will hit the target in a circle or a spiral, wasting its engery over a bigger surface of the armor, drastically reducing its effectiveness.
With sabot rounds it is this wobble too you want to prevent. As you probably know anti tank sabot rounds are sub calibre projectiles. That means the projectile has a much smaller diameter than the gun that fires it. So to fire a thin tungsten/uranium arrow from a big calibre gun, you need some sort...
Part 3: (I told you don't get me started on the gun, hehe.)
...of sled that guides the arrow through the barrel, but of course you want this sled to get lost as soon as the arrow left the muzzle. Having this sled spin due to rifling of the gun often causes it to not separate from the sabot in a clean way. If one of the parts of that sled disengages from the sabot slightly later than the other parts, it compromises the sabots flight path. Fins stabilize the sabot without the risk...
...of wobbling, but you don't want something with fins to rotate around its main axis. Long story short, both main ammunitions of modern MBTs work better without rotation. That is why everybody (except the Brits) switched from rifled guns to smoothbore. They tried to compensate that disadvantage of rifled guns by developing a complicated counter spinning sled for sabot and HEAT rounds, that would negate the spin caused by the rifling, but using a crutch like that reduces...
...the effectiveness. That special sled needs space, so you have to make the HEAT round smaller to stil fit into the barrel. Also a smoothbore gun transforms all the charge's energy into straingt forward drive for the projectile. Rifling eats up (so to say) part of that energy and slows the projectile down by forcing it to rotate. That also reduces the effectiveness of sabot rounds. In most gun applications the additional stability the rotation gives the projectile is...
...worth the loss in speed, but tank guns, where rotating projectiles are a bad thing (for the reasons I mentioned) already, are the exception.
It is a bit weird how fans of the C2 often act as if rifled guns would be something new and revolutionary all the non-British engineers just didn't come up with. Believe me, all the other tank designers could have had rifled guns if they would have thought that would be a good idea. They all had good reasons not to.
The simple fact that the British engineers developed special contraptions to fire together with the ammo which are meant to make the rifled gun act like / emulate a smoothbore gun (by taking the rotation out of the projectile), tells you anything you need to know about what kind of tank gun is better.
I hate to burst your bubble but the Abrams is the best tank, not only is it very effective it is COMBAT TESTED, also the crews of these tanks are veterans and have had more battle experience, overall the Abrams would destroy them.
The Abrams is a good tank (I use to be a US Army tanker.) However, US Armor magazine rated the Leo 2 the best tank in the world, followed by the Abrams SEP. Stat wise they were very close, but the Leo was a little better. However, what makes the tank is the crew and it's support. That and a bit of luck is what makes a tank unbeatable.
It's true that it's combat tested, and that they Abrams crew might have more battle experience. However the rest is not, there is a tournament in which US lost to Sweden. Our crew aint bad I tell you that.
It has a 30% more Powerful Gun than the Abrams. The kinetic energy of the projectile of Leopard 2A6, is the same, as a train with 50tonns and a speed of 80km/h.
The Leopard 2A6 losses against the T-90S. Also the Abrams is much cheaper and can be build in Mass. The Bundeswehr have about 500 Leopard 2, but not on A6 Standart. Forecast International ranked the M1A2 on the first Place, the A6 just on the 4th. The Abrams have stronger turret Armor, newer Computer's & more Firepower thanks to DU Ammo & MRM-KE. The Leclerc Azur is also "better" than the Leopard 2A6. /watch?v=FE23GDHpE24
@TankNutJohn89 --Also the Abrams is much cheaper....-- are you serious????? its the most expensive tang in the world+ it needs a BP or TEXACO truck to move behind it.........
@sosimplecfu: Hahaha, the Support is expensive no doubt, but the most expensive Tanks without Support are the K2, the Leclerc & the Leopard 2. The Abrams is by far the most produced modern western Tank today, due his low Cost.

Though we had our own very bloody fight with that pernicious heresy, we are more free of it than Europe.
DonMeaker 6 months ago
@DonMeaker Most of today's major problems, let's say the Mideast , is due too mainly British and French Govts. drawing of borders in former colonies, and the harm it did to the peoples of that region ( and they both know it.)
MrJeffreydunson 6 months ago
@MrJeffreydunson I disagree. Much of the unpleasantness has to do with the lack of British and French borders within the former Palestine Mandate, wherein sit Israel, Jordan, Gaza, and the West Bank. The rest comes from the local's govt decisions to distract their citizens by foreign adventures. At some time, if you want peace, you move, or you put up with the local government. If you don't want peace, you can blame the Brits and French (or the Jews!).
DonMeaker 6 months ago
@DonMeaker And then we sale arms too them. Its going to end,but not the way we're going to like.
MrJeffreydunson 6 months ago
@MrJeffreydunson The slight difference between AK-47s and M-16s in the hands of Arabs is countered by the information gained during training.
The US didn't sell arms to Iraq during the time of Saddam Hussein. Rather we provided humanitarian medical support. That actually ended well, as we knew where the Germans had built his bunkers, and his weapons were mostly throwaway T-72 "Deathtrap" and French "No-Role" fighters.

MuddynoderMuddeen 6 months ago
@MuddynoderMuddeen The US didn't drive any Indian tribes to extinction. None. Extinctions happened, before the US, as policy of the European monarchies, or by accident: (the germ theory of disease was yet unknown). It makes little sense to discuss and educate Europeans, but we seem to have to do it every few years. Every generation Americans go to Europe for military service and thus Americans know some European history. Europeans don't come to visit us near as often. I am part Mohawk.

@DonMeaker Riiiight. And Jews killed themselves, it wasn't Hitler's fault. True story.
USA is based on genocide. Built on the Indian bones. And if you deny genocide USA did against indians, you are worse than Holocaust deniers.
shoutingGuard 6 months ago
@shoutingGuard The major die off of the native tribes occurred by disease, in the time of the colonization of monarchies, mostly by disease, long before the germ theory of disease was known or understood. It occurred before the US was independent. By contrast, the German murder of cripples, the retarded, Jews, Gypsies, homosexuals, and yes, members of the Confessing Church occurred using medical science, perverted to facilitate murder. A shameful act, for which its perpetrators are responsible
DonMeaker 6 months ago
@DonMeaker Riiight. You Yanks really don't have any shame. Germans are at least sorry for what they did. You make up excuses and excuses and excuses... Those Indians probably massacred themselves at wounded knee. Those Cowboy western movies were probably filmed by Indians, to celebrate their murderers.
Get real, you made a culture on genocide, by celebrating Cowboy movies and stereotyping Indians as bad guys that are only good if they are dead.
shoutingGuard 5 months ago
@shoutingGuard We have no shame because there is nothing about which to be ashamed. Wounded knee had many soldiers who died by friendly fire as they tried to protect Indians, not the work of genicide. Again, though only 250,000 to 280,000 Indians were left in the early 20th Century, there were only about a 1.3 million to start (though much uncertainty) and most of the dying was due to disease or the policy of the monarchies before the US was independent. By contrast the US vaccinated Indians.
DonMeaker 5 months ago
@DonMeaker Sorry mr genocide denier, but you are liar. On territories that are today known as USA, there were about 12 million indians of various ethnic and tribal identity. Most of them lived on far West, where British colonizers didn't even set foot. Cowboys killed them all. Claimed that only good Indian is a dead Indian. And then made a movies about that.
By contrast, Latin America had even more indians. They are still alive, Spainards didn't kill them. Just taught them Spanish.
shoutingGuard 5 months ago
@shoutingGuard Wrong bucko. The number of natives is unknown. Estimates range from 1.2 to 12 million. Disease killed most indians, mostly smallpox. In the west, where the British didn't go, we have many Indian reservations with many Indians very much alive. Sheridan said "the only good Indian I ever saw was dead." but spent a lot of time working to pacify them. The US inoculated Indians with cowpox beginning in 1803 and the Lewis and Clark expedition, to protect them, and us from smallpox.
DonMeaker 5 months ago
@DonMeaker Umm.. yeah. And Jews gassed themselves while refueling lighters. True story.
Why so much western movies when cowboys kill Indians? If you didn't kill them, why do you make movies praising Indian-killing cowboys? Your excuses don't make sense. It is obvious that USA is a genocidal country.
What if Al Qaeda disseminates anthrax all over USA, would that be ok? Because that is what you did to Inidians. Except you used other diseases. But biological weapons are biological weapons.
shoutingGuard 5 months ago
@DonMeaker Even to put them in reservates is disrespectful and kinda racist behavior. Adesease killed the most indians? What about wounded knee? The way of tears? The desease was that europeans came to america and infiltrated their culture.
bernisweltredsun 5 months ago
@bernisweltredsun The reservations are the territories retained by the Indians after various treaties. Indians are full US citizens, and can leave the reservations when ever they want. On the reservations non-indians have fewer rights, and Indians get significant support from the US govt-taxpayer. You are right. The Europeans came to America, and the deaths of most indians were due to the Europeans, (not from Americans), and their diseases. By contrast syphilis came to Europe from the Americas.
DonMeaker 5 months ago
@shoutingGuard If you have indian blood here in the United States. You get a scholarship right away.
GantortheGreat 5 months ago
@GantortheGreat Is education on Indian language? No? I thought so.

Challenger 2 is the best.
mwillis1000 7 months ago
@mwillis1000
TrangleC 7 months ago
@TrangleC
Its armour is the best along with the Leopard 2 (One of them anyway) they have the same armour but the Challenger 2 has something else (Classified obviously) which helps it, it took 12 RPG's and an anti-tank misslie but nobody was killed and the tank was fighting in 6 hours.
mwillis1000 7 months ago
@mwillis1000
TrangleC 7 months ago
@TrangleC
Well if that picks up we will have to make a new tank, but if things stay the same...the Challanger 2 will still be #1.
mwillis1000 7 months ago
@mwillis1000
TrangleC 7 months ago
@TrangleC
Also remember the C2's cannon is best in the world, but there is only 1 true way to see, but because Britain and Germany are both in the UN and EU etc, they will never fight.
mwillis1000 7 months ago
@mwillis1000
TrangleC 7 months ago
@TrangleC
Its much more accurate, in a tank thats what you need, our is the longest range and most accurate in history.
mwillis1000 7 months ago
@mwillis1000
TrangleC 7 months ago
@TrangleC
The longest kill in a tank was with a Challenger 2, this is surely proof no?
mwillis1000 7 months ago
@mwillis1000
TrangleC 7 months ago
@mwillis1000
Part 1 of 2:
Even more than the inflexible design the choice to go with a rifled gun shows a shocking lack of creativity, vision and even understanding of where tank design would go by the C2's designers.
They just took what was already an outdated design concept for how a modern tank could look like 20 years ago and just made it a bit better protected and tweaked a thing or two here and there, otherwise totally ignoring everything that was going on outside their laboratory.
TrangleC 7 months ago
@mwillis1000
Part 2 of 2:
Basically they just put all into developing their fancy new armor and treated the rest of the tank as an afterthought. They just lazily cobbled together a machine to carry the Chobham armor around.
TrangleC 7 months ago
@TrangleC
There is nothing lazy about the C2, its the best in the world, and has been since it was made. Rifled isnt that bad you make it seem to be.
mwillis1000 7 months ago
@mwillis1000
TrangleC 7 months ago
@mwillis1000
Part 1:
The two most important types of ammo a MBT fires are HEAT charges and tungsten/uranium sabbots. Both work better if the projectile doies not spin. A HEAT charge forms a jet of super hot and super fast gas when it explodes. You don't want the HEAT round to spin because that will cause it to wobble, which is no problem for a conventional grenade, but it causes the hot gas jet to dissipate and unfocus. Instead of hitting the target with all its engery on a small spot...
TrangleC 7 months ago
@mwillis1000
Part 2:
...a wobbling HEAT rounds gas jet will hit the target in a circle or a spiral, wasting its engery over a bigger surface of the armor, drastically reducing its effectiveness.
TrangleC 7 months ago
@mwillis1000
TrangleC 7 months ago
@mwillis1000
Part 4:
...of wobbling, but you don't want something with fins to rotate around its main axis.
TrangleC 7 months ago
@mwillis1000
Part 5:
...the effectiveness.
TrangleC 7 months ago
@mwillis1000
Part 6:
...worth the loss in speed, but tank guns, where rotating projectiles are a bad thing (for the reasons I mentioned) already, are the exception.
It is a bit weird how fans of the C2 often act as if rifled guns would be something new and revolutionary all the non-British engineers just didn't come up with. Believe me, all the other tank designers could have had rifled guns if they would have thought that would be a good idea. They all had good reasons not to.
TrangleC 7 months ago
@mwillis1000
Part 7: (Last one, I think.)
The simple fact that the British engineers developed special contraptions to fire together with the ammo which are meant to make the rifled gun act like / emulate a smoothbore gun (by taking the rotation out of the projectile), tells you anything you need to know about what kind of tank gun is better.
