The mars volta is and will always be my favorite band. but i hate TMV fans more than anyone else on this planet because thay are all soo fucking defensive and cannot take the slightest bit of criticism thats not even directed towards them cause they are so fucking wrapped up in the mars volta that they cant even think for themselves anymore.they r just so far up their own asses.GO SUCK OMAR AND CEDRIC DICKS.
i personally think the only reason people are like that is because (for me at least) most the people around them just hate on the band w/o even listening to them. and they don't look into it as much as the TMV fans comprehend it.
i know waht your saying. i honesty think if you dont like the mars volta its cause of 2 reasons. 1.)you havent REALLY listen to them(more than a few songs) or 2.)you have horrible taste in music. but when i say something like"ive followed cedric and omar through ATDI, De Facto, and now the mars volta and i have loved every bit of it, except for Bedlam". and everybody freaks out on me..its just rediculous. but i honestly believe that if Bedlam never came out.their discography would be PERFECT.
The album is great. Its a shorter affair, but I really like the dreamy vibe I get from the music. Copernicus is like the most beautiful song they've done.
Omar and Cedric don't give a shit about what the record label thinks of the music, what the music media thinks of the music, and ESPECIALLY what the fans think of the music. They're gonna do what they're gonna do, and they're prepared to make new fans as well as lose some old ones. I for one think that this album is going to stand right up to their previous works, possibly as high as Frances The Mute. Feel free to agree or disagree, but I see no wrong in this direction they're taking.
it's new and wierd for volta fans, but it's something they had to do, and im glad they're trying this..not not trying..doing an amazing job, specially with twilight as my guide that song is insanely relaxing
I don't really see a huge direction shift. This still sounds like The Mars Volta. And please man, don't presume to know what Omar and Cedric are "prepared" to do or "don't give a shit about". How the fuck do you know?? ha ha It's bad enough Omar lives in his own world up his own ass, you don't have to worship these guys to enjoy the music.
honestly i see where he's coming from. i think de-loused and frances are two of the greatest albums of our time. amputechture i found damn good, but heading in a bad direction, style-wise. and i thought goliath was terrible by mars volta standards. i am excited for this though
the one good song on Bedlam was Conjugal burns. Thomas Pridgen is a terrible drummer.jon was the best but what the fuck about BLake he could have done better than thomas.and im down for sax and flute but adding adrian was unnecessary.also what the fuck is up with paul. R u kidding me?that album sucked every song sounded the same. they are my favorite band but that doesnt mean im gonna lie to myself and say i like the album when i dont. quit bitting the pillow for them.and "douchbag"?grow up.
no hes not.i must not know real frumming?thomas isnt real drumming.all he is is kick,snare,hi-hat.and enough w/fucking 20 drumrolls in every song.YOU must not know real drumming like everyone else who backs up thomas.just cause hes fast doesnt mean he is good.when ulisten he stands out among the band(not in a good way).when jon and blake drum it flows with the music.if you wanna see fast drumming sound good lookup:ZACH HILL VANS COMMERCIAL.YOU OBVIOUSLY HAVE NO FUCKING IDEA WHAT UR TALKING ABOUT
That could be the most ignorant drumming analysis I have ever seen. Wow, just wow. Some of the greatest drummers alive use two-piece kits. His style fits the music perfectly and if you knew anything about drumming you would realize that. How about you educate yourself a bit, until then keep your stupid fucking comments to yourself.
That is the most ignorant comment ive ever heard. You are a fucking idiot thomas' playing fits perfectly with the band. Not only is he fast but he knows how to complement the music and strictly based on talent, he would SHIT on theodore and blake. Theodore was great but you dont know what the fuck your talking about faggot. This kids obviously not a drummer
TRUE THAT! All the mares volta drummers have been great they have to be! Jon and Thomas are both great in there own ways they both make the mars volta sound amazing so TREMULANTMANNEQUIN shut the fuck up you wannabe drummer!
I didn't like Bedlam either. It was screechy and un-interesting. Some songs are alright, Ouroborous and Goliath, but I wasn't a fan of the rest. I love De-Loused, Frances, and Amputechture though. And unlike a lot of peoople, I really, really like Amputechture. Just not Bedlam.
you know, now that i think about it, i guess i can understand how people may not like their last 2 albums as much, but thats cuz they take one a whole new realm of music no artist really has breached before, and it ma require total insanity to actually enjoy. But personally, tracks like Wax Simulacra, Illyena, Goliath, Agadez, Ouroboros, and Metatron are masterpieces of insanity. hahahahah
yeah it definetly is, even i heard Tetragrammaton and Meccamputechture way tooo much, they still are so horrible good! i think it's my favorite album.. but Deloused and Tremulant are also damn good.. i can't choose!
i dont understand how everyone is judging these songs off a 30 sec clip cant anyone wait till the album comes out! its like judging a movie on previews alone

im gonna go out on a limb here and say i'm pretty fuckin dissapointed. its like they drained all the spice out of their songs to appease the fuckin masses. Cotopaxi was pretty good but the rest of it just seems too fuckin relaxed. Havent they made enough money selling their bullshit to MTV and going up and playing "live performances" in front of paid actors at the Nissan set? I just feel like they have so much god damn potential and they are throwin it out the fuckin window.
uuhh WTF are you talking about idiot, Paid actors!?!?!? I was at the Nissan Set, and believe me I was not paid. That was one of the DOPEST performances of theirs, even if it was in Fox Studios, there was nothing but fans there brah, NOT ACTORS
But fact is fact, except from some guys in the back of the audience, the crowd was pretty much dead. (At least that's what the videos show.)
I mean, come on. There is a prick standing in the front row at a fucking MARS VOLTA concert, and the bastard just stands there with arms crossed, not even bobbing his head. Not very fan-like to me.

You can bash the "mellow" feel all you want, but to me, it's like a breath of fresh air from all the fucking craziness of the last 4 albums. I do love the craziness too! But holy shit, what qualifies as a 'ballad' for TMV can be incredible!

teflon sounds okay. that's about as positive as i feel about this. i mean, mellow can still achieve that TMV-transcendence i love, but this just sounds like they were really bored when they were making it. there isnt the depth and width theyve mastered before.
i AM glad to see that cedric's vocals are making a comeback, but not at the expense of the bodaciousness of everything else.
So far I'm not too thrilled about Desperate Graves, sounds a bit too poppy for my taste. Since We've Been Wrong isn't bad, Twilight is pretty cool, and Cotopaxi has been my favorite so far. These four on the other hand sound like the tracks I've been waiting for ;]
cedric desesper me in desperate graves verse, in my opinion he spoils this song with this 80's variety love pop song influence... my grand mother will like this track for sure...
I think this is gonna be one of those albums that will be impossible to listen to just one song. Each time you throw it on you will be compelled to listen every song from begining to end.
I think Since We've Been Wrong is awful as a single, its too quiet! Desperate Graves and apparently Teflon would have kicked Since We've Been Wrong in the ass.

BTW TourniquetMan found the lyrics on Halo of Nembutals on a performance of the Intro Song/Jacob Jam. Look at my videos.
Damn, they went from Bedlam, which is, arguably, the most batshit insane album ive ever heard, to this? Nice. It's like they got out all of their aggression on Bedlam. I hope it was a brief bend of cedric, i hope he will take a big inspiring trance to make more surprising stuffs... i hope when I would listen to the cd in its entirety that will surprise me all the same... i hope th popy direction will breack up after octa..
i hear that...regrettably... i'm worried... the voice melody in the teflon part remind me the actual typicalamaricanmainstreamrockband... and copernicus a beachboy's like...
HON and WTAMG sounds more inspiring and personal but I am afraid that Cedric occulted the sublim creative way of the avant-garde in this album.

The Teflon-Guitar riff can be heard on omar's solo album "Absence Makes The Heart Grow Fungus" during the song "A Story Teeth Rotted For".
The album is from 2001...so basically omar used a really old idea here.

i hear that...regrettably... i'm worried... the voice melody in the teflon part remind me the actual typicalamaricanmainstreamrockband... and copernicus a beachboy's like...
HON and WTAMG sounds more inspiring and personal but I am afraid that Cedric occulted the sublim creative way of the avant-garde in this album.

Haha the preview for Luciforms really gives you a good example of what the song is about...

Nice work
I would take another album like this if it has less mainstream. This sounds great, it's good to be able to sing along some volta.
I hear a lot of influences from both mainstream bands and some epic bands like Pink Floyd
