Y is it that people have this notion that ladders shouldn't go on a medical call! although its not my first choice of apparatus to send to one the main idea is to have fire fighters ( EMT trained ) to a scene to start care while EMS is in route! in the fire servers every thing servers more then one purpose from personal to equipment to apparatus the worst thing we as fire fighters can do is limit are ability by saying " WOW a ladder truck to a medical call "
ok u all need to quit winning about the damn Q! mayb they arnt aloud to use it like some other ppl said! or mayb they didnt feel like useing the damn thing! who cares if they dont use the Q yes i like them but if a department dont want to use a certain siren then so b it1 the department out to make u ppl happy by using the Q their there for the public and to get where they need to b and that siren dose just fine!
that silver thing would be a "que siren" its what you here when you hear that distinctive, really loud, wining, fire truck siren. it has a electric motor that spins a special fan kinda like a air raid siren. some are spun by the trucks air system..retail for that little decoration is around $2,000
this isn't a hook and ladder.... hook and ladder are tiller trucks, 2 pieces.. and what the other guy said about the federal.. yeah.. you got it, use it..
Guys there's a new invention called the Federal Q mechanical siren which would clear anything in front of you in half the time a toy siren like what you were using would have. It's on the front bumper USE THE GODDAMN THING!! I just hate seeing something big enough to knock down a building sounding like a freaking toy.
That is true. Local noise ordinances like in NY City prohibit "excessively loud" sirens like the Q. Plus I was looking at older photos of St. Louis FD apparatus and I saw one that had a siren in the nose (a Seagrave) that loked like an oversized air horn. So even in the old days Q's were just too loud for them.
The H&L doesn't go on EMS calls if that is what you are asking but there is almost always a Quint dispatched! STLFD is getting ready to get all new rigs, 6 more ambulances, and there is talk about changing EMS to a kelly schedule!
That is the only one that I know of that is an E-ONE. Everything else on the front-line are Smeals, with Pierce Arrows making up the reserve/foam fleet (someone please correct me if I am wrong on this).
Yes all of STL's pumpers are quints ! Too bad they have to use a million dollar fire truck because some POS called 911 because there Rx needs filled at the local ER
The pumper that is housed with H&L 6 had just responded to another medical call.... no reason to send a pumper out of it's own area when the H&L crew isn't doing anything.

See that Q, use it, or lose it! If they don't want it, there are many many people (including me) that will take it off their hands.

People should stop getting all uptight about the doggone Q. If it's used then it's used. If not, fine.

i completely agree with you! but some larger cities prohibit the use of the Q because of how loud it is. new york being one

St. Louis Fire Dept. is the BEST. They are so fast and handle every thing so professional. THANKS STLFD

Unusual seeing the Stokes basket strapped on the aerial like that. Makes sense though. Nice-looking truck, too!

If the quint is out, then yes... the H&L does respond to an EMS call. I've been in-house when it has happend.
djm448 3 years ago
Yep, the H&L will go on EMS runs, in fact H&L 4 and H&L 2 go on lots of 'em
stlfd2465 3 years ago 2
Do you put a ladder truck into Ems calls? :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D. What do you do with the ladder's in there :D

not all officers want to hear the Q-siren and it depends on the driver of the rig

H&L how about quint, A true H&L has a tillerman!!
Durren133 4 years ago 2
haha... StLFD don't have any tillers. The quints make up their "pumper/engine" fleet.
djm448 4 years ago
They should've at least used the air horn for that car that wouldn't get out ot the way.
alexandermakrianis 4 years ago
It's a shame they're too lazy to use the Federal Q2B It's the only piece of STLFD apparatus that has it.
deathtofire 4 years ago
I agree. But maybe St. Louis is like NY City where the Q is deemed too loud.
