To teach a Beginning Drummer to play a Waltz...its 3/4 time...Quarter notes on the hi-hat or ride cymbal and play it softly...then One on the Kick, Two and Three on the Snare then back to the Kick on 1, snare on 2 & 3 and make sure you have them use a Metronome that they can hear as they play. I used to teach beginners and trust me; Keep it Simple is the Key~~~

You cant run until you've gotten the walking part down...
