My mom raised the three of us after my father died. I was 6, my brother 8, my sister 5 months.

Unless she's done it herself, being a single mother, with her daughter running away to be a stripper, Ann needs to shut her f-ing mouth.

I suppose the only "crime" my mother comitted in raising me was letting me become a liberal.

Thank you for providing an articulate answer to this maharajakal. When Ann brings up the statistics about the problems with single motherhood, people always react emotionally. She's not attacking individuals, she's saying it's not something that should be promoted given the evidence.

Sure, it's easy for Ann Coulter, as a husband-less, child-less woman to pull out statistics off the internet and slap it into her books. She has only whined; however, she does nothing to help these single mothers. Has she ever gone out and talked to these single mothers, or talked about the use of birth control, or anything of that sort?

There is no culture promoting single motherhood. Nearly everyone realizes that single motherhood is not a good thing. Yes, there are gold diggers out there, but the great majority of girls are smarter than that.

What she was eluding to was the modern pop culture take on single motherhood, and the glamorization of it. Not single mothers who were made to be in that situation. If you read the book instead of spewing your offense at what you THINK her point is, you'd realize she excluded children of widows and widowers, and of divorce. Her main point was against women choosing to be pregnant without a father in the picture.

Read her book. She speaks about the medias role in promoting single motherhood. Your mom has to be a strong woman in order to raise three children, by herself. But, fathers should be encouraged to stick around. In your case, your father died. Which is a tragedy. Her book speaks about the media, making it "cool" to be a single mother. But, read her book. It's a good read.
