  • Outstanding drum work. I often cringe in advance when I see the word "cover" on YouTube because it is most poorly played and recorded. But I keep sampling just in case I hear something great like this. You make me want to get a set of drums and start learning. I play a number of other instruments, but have always been fascinated by great drumming.

  • What a bad ass. This song had the weirdest time ever.

  • @Chaguarama75 It's just 5/4. Sting's done several tunes in 5/4 and 7/4. Not that weird, really...but in this pop music/crap climate we've got now, I guess it stands out like a sore thumb. Sting's always played with beat displacement...check out the intro on "Murder by Numbers". Copeland is totally insinuating 3/4 when it turns out to be 12/8. Super clever tune. He does the same kind of thing on "Ghost Story". Implies one time signature and one downbeat in the intro and reveals the tune later.

  • Great stuff!Nice laid back playing.Would be nice to meet and play some day.

    Greets,Alex

  • Lefty playing right handed setup..interesting...well done!

I got another challenge for you: My Secret Place - Joni Mitchell & Peter Gabriël with Manu Katché on drums. Do you like that?

  • it's been a pleasure watching and hearing you my friend. you are an EXCELLENT DRUMMER

  • perfect. great technical work

  • Very well done! 2 of my favorite Sting tunes. I've been trying to tackle these myself and seeing you play them really helps in a big way, thanks.

  • Wonderful skills friend. You weren't "Apeing" Vinnie; You were paying homage and learning like all who strive for mastery do.

  • Wonderful skills friend.

  • This is VERY good !!!

  • Very well played !! Im sure, with your ability, you are already earning a living on the drums. If you are not...your excellent talent is being wasted....a pleasure to listen too my friend !!

  • @soundnicetome Thanks for the compliment.............I don't play full time, although it would be a blast to do that again!. In the mean time,,,,,I play here, and do a gig now and then!

  • Mice work! "Odd time category"? What about St. Augustine in Hell? It kicks ass too! :) it's good to see another left-handed drummer (however, i'm a guitarist, but when it comes to play drums, i play like a left-handed :) ) congratulations! Seven days is one of my favorite track. One-two-three-four-five, two-two-threee-four-five, come on Vinnie!

  • Wild "left handed" playing with hi-hat on left. Could be an advantage for some things.

    Just outstanding playing.

  • Fantastic playing dude, really. Its refreshing to see some talent in the voyeur vid's of people jamming in their spaces.

  • Excellent Groove!

I remember learning to play this song. It was VERY hard for me, lol!

    Love it!

    peace,

    Tim

  • Vinnie C. sounds great.. I cannot hear you though. why dont you turn the record down?

  • @Guitarwizard ..OUCH! I assure you the mix has Vinnie's drums all but removed, and my stuff in the mix. If anything I overplay, h/h, kick drums/ tambourine.

You've got some interesting guitar work on your site!

  • @froggpond1 Vinnie's drums are removed?? How did you obtain the multi track session of this song? Are you buds with Sting, or what?

  • @froggpond1 Vinnie is like Neil Peart, Gadd, Weckl, Chambers... You might as well just totally play something different and go for your own thing because haters will pick it apart no matter what. Good job though

  • @Gretschdrums75 I do impart my own style to things. Many times I take a song with ghost strokes and apply them to the h/h. and allof a sudden things like this become great practive execises. I am having fun, and 99% of the posts here are having fun too., for the others..............

  • yay!

  • 7 days is in 5/4 ??? nice drumming though

  • This bloke is good. Love the high hat set up.

  • The open handed style has advantages, I notice!

  • Superb drumming.

    Fierce talent.

    Great double base drum work.

  • Thank you !

  • Keep it up bro! If u want some fucked up "inspiration" check for Meshugga and morgan agren/fredrik thorendal here on youtube... Morgan has together with his blind friend Mats played with Zappa several times and dude-his drumming is sick... but fun... he he

  • Great Sound, but your set is too overbalance to the left.

  • How so?

  • amazing i am speechless

  • ummm,,, seven days is 5/4 time, is it not??

  • yes,,,,,,,,,,,,,7 time category should state odd time category.

    Thanks for that.

    Cheers

  • OF course, Brother!! I wish you were on this side of the pond!! I could really use you in my band, right now! We're doing both of these tunes, as well as many other sting tunes,, steely Dan, Tower of Power, etc.

  • strange breed these south paw drummers!

  • your drumming is...awesome!

at the moment i practice every day 1 to 2 hours because i don't have so much time. do u think it's enough to become better? ;)

  • WOW.

Incredibly hard to play 7 Days...

Wish I was a left handed drummer, look how much space is available to your left side! Must make balance a LOT easier..

  • Great! I love this two songs.

  • Killer:) Love the sound man:)) wow

  • 1994, Sting, Vinnie... thanks for keeping it alive!

  • dude. you are a bad ass mother fucker. seriously.

i'm a drummer. i love vinnie. you rocked this hard!

    keep it up!

  • Below I meant *album version, not awesome verson. Also how did you mic this up? The mix is excellent.

  • Thank you !! I agree that No-one can be Vinnie,,,,,,,,,,,,,just like no-one can Bonham etc....... i don't purport to be either, but rather just myself.......and thus it's not for everyone.....we all put forward our interpretations, some better than others, and some liked by certain people and others not. I am glad you could feel it!

    Cheers

    Petar

  • Dude, some would say you created work better than Vinnie's here. I know its his frame work, but still, this is awesome compared to the awesome version. Both versions are good. No one is Vinnie, but this is awesome.

  • Nice Job brother!

  • Wow! Excellent!

  • Excellent work. I agree with Drumming2thelord that seven days was nothing like the original, but good effort. I think you have too much of the double kick going, then again, thats what makes it YOUR original work :) Good one.

  • Yeah ... I improved the bridges,,,,added double kick..... etc,,, truth is i don't get crazy for performing note for note unless I have a gig,,,,Vinnie plays it different every gig. Thanks for noting the originality.

    Cheers

  • EXCELLENT work my friend!

Seven days was nothing like the original but good try though! That's a tough one!

  • Wait, isn't Seven Days in 5, not 7? :) Tell me to shut up and keep drumming!

  • You are right,,,,,,,7 bros is 7 time

  • nice work, good recording too.

  • you are simply awesome!

  • man,your playing is unbeliveble!left hand...great man,really great!

  • hwalla!!!Lepo!

  • You know little bit of Croatian language?

  • Govorim mallo .....

  • Nice dude, well done.

  • and i guess i don't have to be so smart or know bout drums, but just feel it...or try to do it the way u do.congrats!

and the instrument i play is called "bombo legüero" in spanish of course...don't know if it has a name in english, lol!it is so basic...i can't play what u do here, lol!,but i like it anyway.hope to be able to play drums someday.

great work and keep it like that.

    kisses!

  • You are right .... feel it... if it does not feel right no amount of textbook work or schooling can make it right...try counting 1234567 in the phrase of the song you'll find it.

If it speaks to you thats all that matters.

  • i read the comments and i actually don't understand anything of what u r all talking 'bout, lol!i may not know anything 'bout drums, but i do play percusion...it is an argentinian instrument, but it is not like i've studied it so much,i learned how to play it in school when i was 'bout ten and just play it and like it very much.besides enjoying it u seem to have studied a lot.i may not know very lot of this, but i just listen, feel and try to enjoy...and i do,very much.u did an excelent job here.

  • you dont know the what the moeller method is? basically it can be many different things. it's basically 3 strokes in a whipping motion allowing you to do less work. it's hard to explain on the internet, there are great videos showing the moeller method. What do you do for hand technique then? Because you seem to be very fast, and dont seem to be forcing every beat.

But likr i said it already looks like you are using th moeller technique.

  • Ok here I am in bubble again..... I'm my drum clinics I show how to think of strokes as an oval motion with multiple impacts per oval revolution,,,,,depending on control needs. I guess I have developed my own sort of Moeller Roeller. Great comments!

    Thank you

    Cheers

  • oh, you do clinics?

  • also to the regards on my last comment, your left grip seems better here. you wouldnt happen to be using moeller would you?

  • Again i thing it might be camera angle, typically i'm pretty straight with slight variations for control.

    What is the Moeller Method>

  • good job man, this is such a hard song, your right vinnie played the perfect part for this song. what signature is this in anyway? it seems like you can count it in 4.

  • The first tune is in what i call 7 time

  • rest sound.......1/2

  • nice kit going on there :p

  • love the songs...love you xD

  • sorry for doublepost :)

I can really say the fun and passion in your face from 3:28 - 3:50

    sooo cool ;)

  • spot on buddy! great drumming. 5/4 with the triplet feel on the hi-hat - tough stuff. Q: are you counting through the tom fills at the end of the verse or can you do that with out thinking about it. thanks

  • Honestly i am feeling my way thru instinctively,,,, Although i counted it while getting it learned.

    Thanks for the comps.

  • You are a good drummer, but you just ruined seven days!

  • Thanks for the compliment,,,,,, i'm not sure what you mean on ruined the song. I am interested in your opinion.

    thanks

    Petar

  • The drumming was very good in itself, but overplayed.. Seven days is not heavy metal if you know what i mean :D But again; good drumming!

  • I agree the soft parts are ....soft and i killed the bigger parts,,,,,at least there is a dynamic change.......

Thanks for the critique, it is well received.

    cheers!

  • It's my opinon too, to much basdruming and a little heavy. But the drumming is very good.

  • Love your playing on this. Would jump at a chance to do studio fusion with you.

  • I think Sting and vinnie would both approve of your performance!

  • thanks Bugernet!

  • Very well played. If your video had no audio, I wouldn't have expected you to pull off the Vinnie intricacies that you did just by watching you. This is mainly due to your open playing, I believe. BTW, are you right-handed with a well trained left, by any chance - I feel at times your right wants to take lead.

  • Hi King, and thanks for your kind words.

I am lefty... always have been, I have just developed my playing on a right handed kit. I do have some work to do on my Right hand... you are very perceptive... the right leads by virute of playing left to right on the kit,,,, but the primary is the left.... I am activley seeking to expand my right hand and will have a new set up in a few weeks which will expound on this.

It is a pleasure hearing form you!

    Cheers from the Froggpond!

    Petar

  • great technique, great feeling. good job ;p

  • i love it! It's so cool, i like it how you play! I think you always have fun when you play, aren't you? :) Suscribed ;)

  • Oh yeah! if the day comes that i don't have fun i'll quit....

    Thanks

    Froggman

  • Nice...very nice indeed! What sort a kit do you use in this video? Spanx for the answers...

  • Very Nice!

  • its a shame you can hear vinnie on the track aswell because its hard to hear what you are doing! nice job though man!

  • Wow,,, great comment!.... So I am listening and I hear a tambourine i am not playing,,,I thought my kit was pretty hot in the mix and still allowed the rest of the song to play out....checked 3:00 there are some gentle ride and splash hits which show the volume of my kit...i thought if there was any more it would become overbearing....3:26 has a little bleed,4:25 hhhmm good point, good ears. you sound like a producer who gets every wiff a guy plays......

    Thanks for the compliment

    Froggman

  • yes fair point, you should have lowered the song mix then your own drumming would be more audiable.. i understand about the bleed though its a bastard!

Great drumming just a shame you cant hear it isolated.. often its hard to tell whether it is you or vinnie!

  • Thats a compliment! i mic everything and try to emulate the mix which is on the song, then tweak my sound so it's a little hotter and away i go....on this tune i play all of it and ad some improv,,,,I like to acheive a good quality without drowning out the song

  • nice job then, as i said ts just a shame you cant hear your drumming as clearly as i would like to, maybe try and find some 'drumless' tracks (ie. the same song but with no drum track)

    keep up the drumming :)

  • Eres genial compadre...me agrada ver tus aportes en la red, Grande Maestro de los Maestros...jakajkajakaj Saludos.

  • Mucho Gracias!! Thank you!1

    estanque de rana....froggpond

  • Haa!! There's that little kick triplet at 0:14! If you were in my group I would pay you triple scale just to hear those little gems all damn night long! :)

  • Thanks PUUJ

  • awesome

  • That is more than great drumming- it's bad ass drumming! It's sexy drumming!

  • Great drumming! Hey who is making the collaboration videos? YOU?

  • Not sure,,,,,my system suffered a power spike and everything is wiped out, so i'm in rebuild mode for the near future......

  • Bummer- I need to learn how to do that!

  • Well done!! There's some difficult counting on this.

  • Sweet playing

  • btw, I play open as well only I am left handed.

  • I am a leftie too......

  • can you post full versions of each song?

  • I could, however the next two weeks are booked up with other requests and a 15 song cd session. I like those tunes so much I would to do the whole thing, and am flattered at your request.

    Cheers

  • Very nice, dude!! Vinny Couliata is always great, no matter what he plays on...
