I actually just heard this last night when I played an episode off of Netflix, and I gotta say it's the worst replacement melody ever. Did they really have to lose the licensing rights to the original Sinatra theme?

Therefore, in order to use the same song on home video, the production company has to pay another licensing fee. It's cost prohibitive.
This is why you'll never see shows like The Wonder Years and the music videos from Beavis & Butthead on DVD.
I hate when they change the music of any show. It takes so much away from it. I'm surprised that Sony didn't keep the original music. They're a good company and should have the rights. They did on Bewitched and other shows they've released.
I'd hate to hear what kind of music they'd put on "Family Matters", should it be released on DVD.
I hate this theme song, must destroy person who created this awful headache inducing migraine inducing song. I place a curse on the person/people that made this awful replacement for the tv version theme song which to me was better, and not just because it had words N it, but because it fit perfectly and because it didn't make me want to pull my hair out and plunge my head into fire or into a lake 2 drown myself of the horrible horrible replacement of theme song ie the dvd song for this show.
This new theme song is creepy. It sounds like something that would be on an old 8-bit nintendo game. Like a midi track or something. Sony should be ashamed of themselves for releasing DVDs with that crap opener theme. It makes the show seem cheesy.
They had a good opportunity to have some cool easter eggs and they missed it. They could've done something different with each episode's theme or just licensed some weird song that doesn't fit at all just for fun.
The setback with DVD releases nowadays (for many shows in general) is that we lose much of the original content. Married With Children (seasons 3+ w/ the Intro), Super Mario Bros Super Show (volume 2, lose 4 'whole' episodes from the series), and A-Team (season 3, replaced music) are such examples.
The Love and Marriage Theme wasn't even sang by Sinatra for the show. Sony sucks for not putting out the money to keep an america classic whole, shame on you!!! I can't stand to watch those Best of Bonazas, beverly Hillbillies, and Andy Griffiths with the changed opening music, the music sets the mood for the entire show for me. Maybe China will Pirate the series as it was originally. Im sure with the history between Japan and China , China will not care about Japanese sony copyrights :-(

It does sukk, but not fair to blame Frank's family for it.

I just rip the DVDs and re-replace the theme song, then save them as Mpegs and play them that way. Kind of a hassle, but it gets the job done.
