I personally think saturday detention does not make sense. It is the weekend, and no one is at school. The parents who don't consent to corporal punishment and if their children get in trouble, the students should be given lunch detention, after school detention, or suspension from school varying from a day to a week. This should only apply to middle and high school students. In elementary school the non corporal option should be that the student does not participate in recess.
Pre schools kids should not be spanked. Elementary school kids should not be paddled, but allowed to be spanked only under parental or guardian consent to the school staff. Same goes for middle schools students. High school kids paddling should be allowed under parental or guardian consent. However, the students should not be paddled on the bare bottom or if the student receives bruises from the paddling. Implements which can be used are the hand, ping pong paddle, or a hairbrush.
It some southern states such as Texas, the parent or guardian of the student has to sign a paper that either allows the teachers to administrate "Licks" to the student. The parent can either sign Yes, No, or Yes, but I would like to be preset when the "licks" are administrated. This allows students an alternative from sitting a boring ass class. I believe this is morally wrong! The idea behind "licks" is that the teacher is causing pain as a means of punishment. Sounds no different that beating.
Some are asking what the 'big deal' is. The 'big deal' is that a painful touch is every bit as unwelcome and degrading to a child as an uninvited SEXUAL one. Everyone would quickly see the fault in punishing children through rape and groping, and yet the deliberate pain infliction they advocate is just as much of a physical insult. There is nothing sexual about paddling. At my school, either a female teacher paddles female students, or a female has to observe. And parents have the option to opt their students out... However, the alternate punishments to paddling always seem a lot worse. like, last week some guys were given the option to take one lick, or one day of in school suspension.

We have learned time and time again that certain situations are just wrong for children/teens and adults to be in. Allowing physical punishments like these means that there are codes and laws allowing this ... it's not like the world is a perfect place. Police officers, teachers, principles ... they're not all justified. They can be corrupt/abusive/wrong too. :S

@lizpas03 Spanking a teenager is sexual assault any way you look at it. While it might not be of the same magnitude as rape, it is nonetheless sexual assault at that age. Teenagers have a right to their bodies. And besides, I was discussing the concept of undergoing a punishment that you get over with much quicker as opposed to something that takes much longer (such as detention.) Just because you get it over with quicker doesn't mean its better.

I personally think saturday detention does not make sense. It is the weekend, and no one is at school. The parents who don't consent to corporal punishment and if their children get in trouble, the students should be given lunch detention, after school detention, or suspension from school varying from a day to a week. This should only apply to middle and high school students. In elementary school the non corporal option should be that the student does not participate in recess.

Pre schools kids should not be spanked. Elementary school kids should not be paddled, but allowed to be spanked only under parental or guardian consent to the school staff. Same goes for middle schools students. High school kids paddling should be allowed under parental or guardian consent. However, the students should not be paddled on the bare bottom or if the student receives bruises from the paddling. Implements which can be used are the hand, ping pong paddle, or a hairbrush.

It some southern states such as Texas, the parent or guardian of the student has to sign a paper that either allows the teachers to administrate "Licks" to the student. The parent can either sign Yes, No, or Yes, but I would like to be preset when the "licks" are administrated. This allows students an alternative from sitting a boring ass class. I believe this is morally wrong! The idea behind "licks" is that the teacher is causing pain as a means of punishment. Sounds no different that beating.

While it would be unrealistic to try to enact a 100 percent ban on all spanking, it would not be far fetched to completely ban it in schools and to not allow parents to spank children who are 13 or older. That is how its done in Canada. 13 is too old to spank. Teenagers have got a right to their bodies.

As for parents, I am not out to outright ban all spanking done by parents and as I said before, to try to do that would be unrealistic. However, there is no reason for parents to spank a child who is 13 or older. 13-15 years of age is too old. Parents who spank at that age should be locked up for a long long time.

And like I said, at that age somebody might simply not let their parents spank them. As for the Bible, nowhere in the Bible does it say to strike the butt, I made a video on that. Also, the Bible says not to use the rod after the child reaches the age of reason, which was commonly held to be 13 in biblical days.
