lol why are people pointing out the obvious in that there is a magnet on the bottom? its not a trick. the video's purpose is to demonstrate the chaotic motion of the pendulum. people are stupid because they don't even read the description on the side of the video before commenting.
What pieces are magnetized? The bottom of the pendulum and the entire black post thing? Is it "uniformly" magnetized? Is there current involved? DESCRIBE THIS SYSTEM PLEASE OMG.
It would have problems drawing on the paper. A lazer would be better. Everything's better with lazers. Pens, guns, tanks, printers, sharks, internet memes, Guile, Chun Lee, E. Honda, M. Bison, circle, triangle, square, red, green, blue...
At the time I was thinking an airbrush would be easier. How was not really the issue. An LED light and timelaps photo would likely do the same thing. I just like how time lapse 'randomness' makes cool patterns

Under the paper are placed several magnets which either attract or repel the magnetized pendulum.

It is a magnet, I had the same thing in my cubicle a few years ago, It's base is similar to a bullseye, he has it covered up with a napkin.
If you're going to pull a hoax, try being a little bit more creative next time.

no, it's supposed to have a magnet (otherwise of course it wouldn't yank like it does...)
the point is that even if the starting position was varied by a miniscule amount, the path of the pendulum would vary hugely.
it's not a hoax, you just can't see the magnets.
