No, we did not torture. Torture = long lasting physical damage. We did none of that. We did our best to scare them. That's all. If we had been choppinng off fingers, vivisection, sterilizing, etc then I would absolutely agree that we tortured yet we didn't.
It's not about pointing fingers or taking blame. It's about people trying to avoid prosecution and conviction for breaking the law. People are pointing fingers so they can avoid jail time.
