dude that's a shame... their suncatchers aren't as good as they appear then huh... man those cages are soooo soo expencive. they really shouldn't have any defects...
Hey sorry to hear about the defects man. That must suck. Bet you were annoyed with the company. Glad to see you got it sorted in the end bro. Just a sugfestion with the nut going through the hole just use washers but guess u may already have thought of that. Take care my friend
It came out very nice in the end. The manufacturer needs to assemble their product before shipping it out, The factory is probably just a small mom & pop shop but they are very popular. I hope it lasts years & year's for you. Your bird's will be in paradise =). My video is 4th one down on the right on your video page & your video is on my video page too. Take care, Mike
honestly i would get rid of those feeders and replace them sheet metal cut to be a few inches larger thatn the feeder holes.
Zip ties scare me because they can weather become brittle and fail. PLUS its zip ties are not security all a thief needs is a wire cutter and he would have those feeders off in 15 seconds.
@citrix69 And a thief could cut the lock, wires, or unscrew the panels. It's not foolproof, but with hundreds of zip ties it makes it a heck of a lot more work to take things apart. I also used stainless steel zip ties (not only corrosion proof, but parrot proof as well). Those feeders would take a while to get off with all the screws and zip ties (mostly to keep the parrots from dismantling them). I don't like them, but don't have a good replacement at this time. Terrible company though, beware
@kiliparrot thanks for the reply Michael i read after i posted where you may use stainless steel zip ties, good choice and change.
i have been watching and reading your website for the past couple of weeks and i have learned a lot. I am getting a CAG in 3 months or so, the breeder emailed me today to let me know that the eggs have finally fully hatched. i wish i found your site before i spent a lot of money on a DVD that you are familiar with.
Also for a company to charge $2500 bucks for a cage that has holes drilled wrong, wrong parts, missing parts, etc etc etc is just plain BS. Im glad you got a refund of $500 bucks in my opinion it should have been $1,000. I want a outdoor cage but if that is how that company does business ill pass.
Did they refund you? Really considering all the errors, they should have given you a full refund. Beautiful in the end, but terribly frustrating to make it work!
Yes, their cages look so beautiful on their site too! I think I'll be going with a company called Corners Limited. I've spoken to the woman there and she was super helpful :)
@sakebleugirl Glad sharing my story can help save others the money, frustration, and problems. I'm very happy to have an aviary and think it is totally worth it for the birds. But that company cannot be trusted by anyone. Good luck finding an alternative.
Gosh, I've order one of those Hybrid bird cages today and I really hope the company don't do a poor/lazy job like they've done with yours. If you pay so much money on those cages then they shouldn't even ship it to you until everything is perfectly right
That's ridiculous.. For the price of those Cages By Design aviaries, that thing should be absolutely FLAWLESS. Lucky you were resourceful enough to modify their defects. I have the walk-in aviary from A&E Cages and they had similar defects with the holes not aligning, being too small/too large. I wasn't able to fix those, so some parts of the ceiling are not bolted together. But mine's an indoor aviary and I have 1 small quaker, so I left it as is.
@Polexia3 That's a shame. It sux that there pretty much aren't any reliable aviary manufacturers out there. But in our cases, zip ties are your best friend. They even make a stainless steel kind in case your parrot is a huge chewer but so far my parrots haven't touched the reinforcing zip ties I used all around my aviary. There are probably over 100 zip ties on that thing and they are doing a greater job of holding it all together than the bolts. Does your quaker build nests in the aviary?
I would love to have an outdoor aviary for my 2 fids like yours, it's a perfect size. I am just so amazed that you have one in the city. This video has opened my eyes to purchasing one to assemble. I will make sure setup is included even if it's more. Too many changes for me to correct! Did you think of just building your own from scratch? Who would have thought such a well known company would have such shotty workmanship? I wouldn't have and I looked at their cages to purchase, not now. Thanks
Wow that was ridiculous. I would of have wanted it 90 percent off. I now know where I will not be buying an outdoor aviary. Good for you for getting it together though. I would of gave up the first day.
hmmm, funny. I'm not an expert but I though that you should have an outdoor aivary only if you were going to have big families of small birds inside it. Would you recomend one for a cockatiel? I desperatley need to know please! Thankyou.
Been there myself, for this exact reason I have partial cages around my home, but wow what a nice place for them to hang out......cant wait to see it with all the branches and toys.
I feel some of your pain. I had to put together a bird cage for my Green Cheek Conure and it was a big cage. It came with very poor instructions actually none just a picture. Then after several of hours of that my bird was able to fit through the bars. Wow you really went through a lot for your birds. That shows you really love them. Nice job!
its too much work to spend $ and even labour on the aviary, should be design by defects.cable ties are not so strong either, the parrots might bite them off after some time. but still cool work from u!
@jasonkidhill This is why I just used an exorbitant amount of cable ties of varying thicknesses. I do realize that the Cape Parrot in particular can break them (he can chew a bottle cap to shreds) but I am hoping that the enormous quantity of them will outlast his chewing abilities. If only a few get broken every week or month, I can replace them as necessary. There will be much nicer wood toys for him to chew. If all fails, I found stainless steel zip ties that I can use instead.
Lucky Kili & Truman! What a nightmare though with getting it assembled. Good thing you're a handy man. Those of thus who aren't would have been hosed!
if someone wanted to steal your birds, they'd just snip through the cage lol no point in making feeder more secure

why didnt u just used a bigger nut instead of drilling a new hole lol??
