I have not laughed so hard in many a day. My mother's father was from Scotland and he had one of those names where you spell it with the gh and dh sounds. I am doing my family genealogy and just try to get information from a library about one of those type of names that the person talking to you can not spell due to the language difference. My maiden name is spelled Borrer but pronounced Borah. Thanks for posting this!!!!
This happens to me all the time. How come my friends in Canada, the USA, New Zealand and Australia understand me fine but the minute I speak to an English call centre I have to spell everything out? I'm sure they do it on purpose.
this reminds me of giving directions to holiday makers in Norfolk... 'excuse me I need to find Happ-iz-burg 'what hays-brugh?' 'no...Happ-iz-burg' 'yeah that's right... 'Hays-brugh (spelt Happisburgh) '' 'Ugh, never mind. Where's Post-wick ?' 'what? Pozzick?' 'No... POST WICK!' 'there's no such place as Post Wick, it's POZZICK (spelt Postwick) !' 'fine, never mind. Where's Why-mond-ham ?' 'do you mean...Windum (spelt wymondham)?' 'And Cos-tes-sey?' 'I'TS COSSEY!!!!!'
Excellent, Jock and Chris - keep them coming!
