I just want to be able to stand out of the saddle like the rider is doing @ approx. 20 seconds into this video. Is their enough resistance with the unit to really get a good standing climbing interval workout ?
I am strongly considering spending the money ($850) to purchase a set. What most impressed me about this video was that the rider was able to coast a bit. I am most interested in being able to do realistic standing climbing intervals. I read that these rollers have a magnetic resistance unit built in. Is there enough resistance to do low cadence standing climbing (not sprinting) intervals ? I'm assuming you can only adjust the resistance unit while not using the rollers.
@JoeOxfordCT - I rode the rollers at the show where I filmed the video (Interbike). I'm not sure about the low cadence resistance - may be a question for the Inside Ride guys to answer (the manufacture). I don't think you can adjust anything while riding though.
@JoeOxfordCT I have these E Motion rollers and they are great! You can even set various resistance on it to simulate climbing or headwind. $850 is great deal. Price went down in fact. When I bought them over 2 years ago, they were over $900 retail
@JoeOxfordCT don tbe fooled the rider in this svideo is most certainly a professional with lots of time on rollers. you aint gonna ride it like that. :-)
@vetb882 You're right, the guy is clearly a pro, but I've seen other newbys to the e-motion rollers successfully stand on their first ride - so telling someone they "ain't gonna ride like that" is a little negative. Besides, maybe JoeOxfordCT is a pretty good cyclist, so why doubt his abilities.
@00bikeboy IM a roller newbie, just got a set the week I read this. And promptly busted my ass falling off, and Im a former championship winning Amateur motocross racer turned roadie so my balance is better than many right off the bat. I meant no insult to joeoxford and he's likely a better roadie than I am for the time being but I didn't win mx races by not challenging myself or other people. I was presumptuous to say what I said and so to Joe oxford, I APOLOGISE, bro. No harm no foul.
@00bikeboy right on bro, again I tried to do the no hand thing, not happening, ass busting was imminent so I wised up and just got on with my session. Lol
Seems to me that the whole point of rollers is eliminated. Rollers are for improving your pedalling technique, if you don't pedal smoothly then you come off them. With this system you can mash away at the pedals as you please; nothing learned. I don't see the advantage.
is riding on rollers any different to riding on the road, in, starting off, riding, balance etc? I am unsure of what to get for those very inconvenient days when i work from sun up to sun down. I still have yet to decide on rollers of a trainer.
there are normally 3 rollers, 2 at the back and 1 at the front. to make it more realistic (unlike turbo trainers) the back ones are connected to the front by a chain to make the front roller spin, and therefore the front wheel.
@marts500 the rollers in the back are connected. if they weren't then rollers wouldn't work. it is the closest indoor simulation to on the road riding.
How does he switches the tool from "easy-flat" to "hill" position ?? does somebody doing it instead of him ? look at his back reel when he is clapping hands ?? ..
Well they aren't saying how much on here for a reason. Does look pretty cool. They should market them in my area, in Fort Lauderdale. This is triathlon capital of the world and great weather year round but people still love this stuff to be better out doors. I wish they'd make spin classes with this type product. BYOB, Bring your own bike. You should add a virtual affect so people can compete.
They are costly. If you are still interested in rollers, you can buy the cheaper ones. Which has only one resistant level. The point of the cheaper one is getting your balance on your bike right. And they don't have the sprinting floats. You can get regular stationary rollers, which just give resistance on your rear tire. And get the Cheap rollers for your balance.
I could send you a link that sells cheaper rollers.
I have these rollers and I use trainer/roller specific tires by Continental for it, and the noise level is much less as compared to regular road tires.
What else have you used? I'm looking at kk pro and road machine. Then I thought I'd get a set of rollers like this one a bit later. I live in Portland and I work bad hours. A lot of people say that having both is good. If you own this I'm sure you have some thoughts and experience with this stuff. Also, 1up had addressed the problems with resistance. Any thoughts?

why is this roller so noisy? the price is a bit high too, but maybe that will come down? it looks like the future of rainy day training to me.

The best rollers ever (although I broke my rib falling off them). The very next day I trained on them again. This tells you everything..

@Prosportdotnet - am a big fan as well. Took me just 20 seconds to get up and riding on them.

how easy is it to come off on one of those
IiISlPlRIiINlT 2 years ago
If you look at the video closely - you'll see bumpers on the front and rear, both sides. It makes it pretty difficult to come of the rollers.

I think part of the noise is due to the nature of my flip video cam. It picked up more noise than I remember in person -

different tires make different noise's on rollers, it's just a matter of using the right tires.
