  • I turned on snowflakes while i was watching this :D

  • This is proof that YouTube is the greatest!

  • Oh, my. I haven't seen this animated short since I was ten and living in Aurora, Illinois (a suburb of Chicago). How nostalgic!

  • wtf is this i thought i was watchin mw3 vids :/

  • i using YT snowflake feature for this video :)

  • If I never had grown up around the Chicago area, and saw this video, I swear to god I wouldn't know the best Christmas videos ever!!!!

  • how I loved watching this every year when I was a kid....and Frosty & Hardrock, Coco and Joe....great times, wish I had a time machine and could go back again...

  • Oh how I Miss watching Garfield Goose...Especially at this time of the year

  • i remember watching this & "hardrock, coco & joe' every christmas on WGN in the 80's when it first came to cable/satellite tv in Kentucky via 'the bozo show'..brings back great memories... :)

  • I am from Chicago and just found this video, seeing this just brought tears to my eyes. It was so magical growing up in Chicago and hearing this every year. What a treat!!!!!

  • I'm from Western Pennsylvania and they play this along with Frosty and Hardrock every Christmas!! Just saw it 15 minutes ago from typing this. :)

  • i live in pa and even though we got wgn i remeber seeing this and hardrock on nbc late in the mornings like 2 am or midnight on nights when dad would let us stay up late

  • These shorts were classic. Nearly everyone remembers them.

  • It's that time of year again. I wondered if anyone would have a copy of this cartoon and would be kind enough to post it. I thank you so much for doing so. I watched this many years ago.......I'm all smiles over here. Merry Christmas to all!

  • Was this ever shown in theatres, or was it made for TV?

  • We had that animation in Boston too. Loved the snow. Played in it from 9 AM until the street lights came on with only a quick lunch break. When we came home our toes were so numb from the cold that the heat hurt at first lol. Good times!

  • Guess Doctor lawyerWhatever would rather watch or hear snoop dog or tupac sing shit at xmas eh?...got nuthin good to say about this stuff just go away,..we chicagoans (bridgeporters!) will always have this,..and hardrock coco n joe,..and street hockey, 'skitchin', and cristmas carols and shoveling in all the punks' cars that were in Speigels' parkin lot!,..then diggin em out for ten bucks!,..lololol

  • Oh man does this bring back memories....and garfield goose..bozo the clown....those were such better days...we just had no idea....our parents and neighbors used to close off the street for an evening and us kids would ice skate on the street when it froze up! I sure miss those days.....

  • How Time Pass's by.....I miss those days, Wish I was a kid again.

  • 6 years old. black and white tv. love this. I miss my Mother.

  • @zeak62 Miss mine too.....

  • GASTON... YOU'RE FIRED!!!! XD

  • What a wretched nightmare of a song. The military could use this song to break down POWs. Just put them in isolation and crank this song through a PA system over and over, 24 hours a day. Within three days they would tell their captors everything they know. They'd even give up information they weren't even asked of, just for that horrible song to stop and leave them in silence.

  • @joeymasong You're the one that might be stupid. This is a classic.

  • I grew up in Manhattan in the 1950s - this was played in NY area too. Such a classic...my all time favorite winter season song and cartoon. I just love it. Hope to show it to my granddaughters. They already like Frosty the Snowman and "Neverland' from the ORIGINAL Mary Martin Peter Pan performance.

  • How were the snowflakes made?

  • Originally sung by Rosemary Clooney in 1951. Just fabulous, brings tears to the eyes of Chicagoland baby-boomers, now plus or minus 60 (sob)

  • Suzy snowflake is a stalker...this song scares me XD

  • This is sung by Norma Zimmer with The Norman Luboff Choir.

  • This, Hardrock Cocoa & Joe, & Frosty were some of my best childhood memories.

  • Suzie Rocks my world!

  • It played in Boston as well. I remember it fondly and I remember singing the jingle long afterward.

  • Next year, Suzy will be 60 years old.

  • we watch this too in Johnstown PA ... its a classic..love it!

  • My mom was 9 when this first came on in 1953. I saw it on WGN when I was 4 and still loving this, this is also my mom's fave too.

  • the memories that these old cartoons bring back! One of my favorite.

  • shes a pedifile

  • I'm so excited, we're getting the first snow of the year today. I just had to find this song!

  • I'm always amazed at what you can find on Utube. Whenever I see the Christmas specials now I think if this song and simple video - it reminds me of the excitement of devouring the Sears toy catalog. I loved the dolls. I was born in 1944 so I was quite young at the time.

  • I remember standing around the piano and singing this song as a kid when my Mom played it. Love this song!

  • I love the simplicity and innocence of it. Simple animation, music simply but sweetly done made our imaginations soar as children. A lovely innocent delight. Thank you for posting.

  • The years growing up in Chicago.,,,,wonderful memories!

  • Thank you! I remember this when I was little. Who sang the song? It kind of sounded like the woman that did the voice of Cindrella, Illene Woods, or maybe Norma Zimmer, Lawrence Welks , champagne lady.

  • This played in new England as well. I remember this show... Not to many people do...

  • BAH HUMBUG!

  • GARFEILD GOOSE. GOD I

    'M SO OLD

  • Like Lakota60 I saw this cartoon a long long time ago in another country, I spoke no english and the words made no sense but the tune I could never forget. Brought back childhood memories of simpler times and a little tear.

  • It's hard to believe now but, in the early 1950s, even in NYC, TV stations could not always sell all the commercial spots between shows; so they put in fillers to take up the time until the next program started. During most of the year they ran public service announcements like Smoky the Bear. At Easter they added Peter Cottontail; at Christmas, Suzy, Frosty and Hardrock, Coco & Joe. Most, I think, were on channel 4, WNBT. I never saw Suzy or Frosty in a cartoon program. Only in between.

  • thanks for posting!

  • I am so moved. Thank you for this. It was my favorite christmas time cartoon. It always made me sad when she said "I haven't long to stay". Beautiful singing. Beautiful time.

  • @stevethird1 Huh... I always thought it was "I have a lot to say." I'll have to give it another listen...

  • I turn Fifty this year and all i can say is thank you Broadcast Museum you made a old man Smile.

  • Chicago Christmas represent!!

  • OMG I have not seen this in years but I remember it well and I enjoy it today as much as I did growing up as a child along with Hardrock, Cocoa & Joe

  • This was played on a kids show I watched called Children's Theater , with a host named Ray Forest

  • Amazing 3d animation overdubbed with beautifull harmonies. Why can't we have kiddie entertainment like this today.?

  • It's not really "3D," except that it's an actual puppet-thingy, not a cartoon.

    Stop-motion is cool, if creepy...

  • I love this song and the cartoon

  • I love the Harmony of this song and I Love the 1960s as a kid 3-12 years old. Merry Christmas from Texas Ya'll. I Love Chicago, Illinois.

  • Merry Christmas from Chicago!

  • And the same to you, P.S. Mongo Straight (smile)

  • Centaur Productions would later become Project Unlimited around 1958. The main owners were Wah Chang and Gene Warren and possibly Tim Barr. Chang and Warren had formerly worked for George Pal on his Puppetoons in the 1940s. Under the Project Unlimited name, they won an Oscar for their effects for THE TIME MACHINE in 1960.

  • great film. the thing that puzzles me is: where is that vocal harmony tradition coming from? kind of jazzy harmonies give it an air of modernity, yet it's at pains not to sound like jazz or pop, yet it's not classical sounding either. It seems like they used the style for jingles all the time.

  • It's been more than 50 years since I've seen this film short on our 16 inch Magnavox TV.

This kind of close harmony was epitomized by groups like the Modernaires who dated from late 40s. This style faded away in the early 60s.

  • seriously~anyone who doesn't believe in the xmas spirit~never met Suzy snowflake!!! She's ma girrrllll!!!!

  • My english teacher plays this song every Christmas season! I LOVE IT! lol

  • It is great to see this video again and to read all of the comments...I, too, grew up on Ray, Bozo, Garfield Goose...remember Family Classics?

Hardrock, Cocoa, and Joe....singing it in my head right now...to all from Waukegan....I miss you!!

  • Those of us from Chicago have grown up with this and Hardrock Cocoa and Joe. Always looked forward to seeing this at Christmas time.

    Those were fun days..

  • @ThreePuttinDude this ,Suzy snowflake& frosty were shown on Garfield Goose ...every Holiday season

  • @ThreePuttinDude Yes, they were....:)

  • Now Christmas begins. Very sweet and special. Thank you.

  • whoa! i had no idea that this is THAT old!!! i thought it was like, 90s or something!!!! haha! loves it!!! xxxx

  • 90's lmao.... they had color in the 90's you can tell this is older than that....

  • we only had the song on cd though... and you cannot see images on cd's... only the fancy pants ones.... :P hehe

  • YESSSSS this defines christmas.

  • I remember all of these from when I was a kid! I was born in the 60's, grew up on the 70's. Now I can share this with my kids, glad I found this!

  • I remember this watching Captain Kangaroo- living in Michigan the first snowfall was SO EXCITING-and at 60 years old, I still get excited by the first snowflake.

  • i love this video!! watched it as a kid with my twin sister!! i still remember the words!!!

  • this used to on in ny like on the opening of the broadcast day at 530am on wnbc 4 before the modern farmer

  • this is my 6year old sisters favourite song and i am making her a cd of all of her favourite songs cus its her birthday today.

  • I saw this once maybe twice on The Bozo Show on WGN about 25 years ago. I'm from Louisiana & it makes me smile to read these comments of people growing up in Chicago & this being part of their memories when they were young.

  • I remember this from Captain Kangaroo in the late 1950s. I just realized that Suzy looks very much like a German Bild Lili doll - forerunner of the Barbie doll!

  • We sang this song in the first grade for our Christmas pageant. :) Great memory.

  • Growing up in Chicago in the 60's and watching these cartoons made Christmas so magical. I'm glad I have these great memories!

  • A favorite from MY childhood! Thank you.

  • In the 60s I used to love catching this and Hardrock... every Christmas-time in Chicago. These kind of videos really made Christmas magical to me as a little boy.

  • Comment removed

  • I never seen this before and WOW :-)

  • Just watched it again. It's priceless. Thanks for posting it!

  • I love these old school x mas cartoons they bring back so Many good times

  • I used to wait all year to see suzy snowflake and hard rock coco & jo on Ray Rayner show in Chicago at Christmas. Childhood used to be truly magical. God my kids watch such crap now. Simple was so much better. Remember Chelveston the Duck?

  • Yeah...good times. Those times made good children and we grew up to be good adults (most of us did anyway).

  • i got this stuck in my head and i figured id look it up here and finally the song got it out of my head but i love this song!! its really catchy!

  • This brings back memories of childhood Christmases. Our local TV channel still plays this and Hardrock, Coco and Joe every year.

    Thank you, Broadcast Museum!

  • For years (I am 53 now) I thot it was HOT ROD, Cocoa and Joe...and the part of the song that says,'And Santa is busy with his HEAVY pack'. For years I thot it was his HAPPY pack (as a kid I did anyways)...good times, good years.

  • OMG! I never thought I'd ever see this cartoon again. Suzy, Frosty the Snowman and one called Jack Frost used to play in the "early" days of TV in Cleveland during Christmas time. Jack Frost was filmed using the same technique and appearance as Suzy and Frosty. Sure wish someone could find that one and post it. Loved them all, including Peter Cottontail. Thank you for posting Suzy, Frosty and Peter.

  • OMG!!!I forgot about the FROSTY THE SNOWMAN claymation...I must look at it now.

  • How gay, I always wanted that dress.

  • Love this and blog about it every year along with Hardrock, Coco and Joe. Sister gave me the video from Broadcast Museum a few years ago. So glad they are sharing this on YouTube.

  • My mom and I sang this song when I was a kid. One of my favorites. Never knew it was a cartoon. It was neat to see this!

  • I also remember this little "cartoon" from my childhood, and I saw it in the Wash. DC area. They should start showing it "again"; the animation is so "simple" and charming! The newer Christmas songs and videos just don't hold a Candle, to this one! Also, I never realized it was sung by the Great Rosemary Clooney!

  • ... but it says it was sung by the Norman Luboff Choir and Norma Zimmer. Where'd you get Clooney? *puzzled*

  • Whoever posted this thanks! It's been decades since I've heard this song or seen the film clip. It brings back such memories! In the fifties this film clip would run on a Detroit TV station whenever they had time to fill. I still hum the song to myself when I look out a window and see snow falling.

  • thank you for posting this... i LOVE suzy snowflake. the animation is so simple and elegant; it's beautiful, as is the music. what a fantastic holiday staple.

  • I remember singing this song along with the tape, putting up christmas tree up with my mum

  • We had snow flurries in Northern VA today and I sang this song to my 4 y/o son. Isn't it sad that I still remember the words? I just had to show him this. Thank you for posting this.

  • Put this code &fmt=18 behind URL to this video for watch in high quality

  • Thank you, thank you, thank you for the trip down memory lane. My Christmas anticipation started each year the first time I heard this "commercial" on TV, when I was a kid in the 60's. I can't remember the station, we picked up only three........from Altoona, Johnstown and Pittsburgh (high atop the Alleghany's). This is a favorite memory for me. Now I have to look up Hardrock, Cocoa and Joe!

  • You're thinking of the NBC station, WJAC channel 6 in Johnstown. I remember watching this on channel 6 as recently as the mid-'90s, before we got DirecTV. My husband still goes around the house singing this one every time it snows.

  • I'm not old enough to have seen this as a child, but my mother did, and would sing it for my sister and I every Christmas. Thanks for posting this, it was a real pleasure to connect with such a warm memory from my mom's past.

  • Pretty sure this was on Garfield Goose, not Ray Rayner. I still hum this song when it's snowing! Thank you so much for posting this great memory for me.

  • omg.. it's been 30yrs since i have watched suzy snowflake, cocoa hardrock and joe, and frosty on "ray raynor" and "garfiel goose"..Makes me feel like an 8 yr old again

  • I remember running to the TV set whenever I heard that tune. I loved it so much! It was aired in the East as well. I grew up in New York City, Brooklyn to be exact.

  • i love this song and im a dad i want my family to let this be a part of our christmas

  • how cute

  • OMG! I remember seeing this when I was so little! Thank you so much for the post!

  • they play these on channel 6 in Johnstown Pa every christmas

  • Wow, Norma Zimmer, Lawrence Welk's second Champagne Lady (after Alice Lon was un-wunnerful'ly fired for showing "too much knee" on-camera)! Who knew?

  • I remember this growing up in Philadelphia in the early 1950s. I love it! Thanks!

  • I've remembered old Suze since 1952 or '53 -- it's grand to find she hasn't been lost. Childhood, man.

  • I grew up with these!

A couple of years ago I went to a lot of trouble to track down a DVD with these on it. Now it's on youtube!

A couple of years before that we were passing through Chicago around xmas. One morning, my wife came out of the hotel bathroom to find me grooving to Suzy Snowflake on the TV. She was amazed/amused/confused. She grew up in the East and didn't know these.

  • A classic!!!

  • Thank you so much. I grew up with Ray Rayner and Garfield Goose, too. What a great time!

  • ray raner was great

  • Ray Rayner...Yes. Chauncey And Charleston The Duck! Cuddley Duddley!

  • It was Chelvaston the Duck. Ray named him after the air base in England he flew from during WWII. Ray was shot down over Germany and was a POW. He was not one to brag about that. How I miss Ray Rayner.

  • Don't forget Clutch Cargo and his pals Spinner and Paddlefoot!

  • all the memories just flood back in time

  • I grew up on Bozo, Ray Raynor, and Garfield Goose and Friends. I looked froward to this one and Hardrock, Coco, and Joe.

  • This video is a dynamic flashback!! Garfield Goose and Ray Rayner, what an incredible blast from my past thanks!!!!!

  • How great, this brought back some wonderful memories!

  • I love this
