How to make curved plywood panels without a vacuum press

wouldn't two small plates of 1/16th steel work the same way?..costs about 30.00 bucks too!?

@porpoisefathom Not at all! Curvomatic is easily 10 times as strong as 1/16 plate while being totally flexible too. Steel plate would buckle between the formers and give a rubbish result every time. It would also be job specific and you would need to have different plates depending on your desired panel. Curvomatic is infinitely extendable in both directions and can be reused hundreds of times.

I wonder how much time he spends cleaning that thing from glue. Why he didn't protect the sufrace?

@heavymiso We use so little glue that none seeps out and we still get 100% lamination every time. Masking off is very simple for beginners though.

@MrLeonard55 Hi, if you have a look at 1:44 onwards you can see him glueing the sheets together. It's then put into the Curvomatic system and when the glue dries under the pressure it remains curved. This system allows much thicker laminations than any other system around!

I made mine with hand cut 3/4 plywood ribs, convex AND a concave forms. 2 layers of 1/4" pine 3 ply pine plywood with about 8 oz. of premium wood glue brushed on evenly. 2 doors, 23 1/2" radius and about 200 lbs of whatever I could stack onto the form.Masonite would make the curve more smooth but It worked EXCELLENT! I'm so proud of me!
