  • In many pictures of him, he looked a lot older than he was, but in a video like this you can tell he's just a kid. Only 17 when he died. Poor thing.

  • @Italktopopsicles Yep. I always looked older in my photographs and when people met me they were shocked that I was pretty young. Some people are just not photogenic.

  • That guitar belonged to Eddie Cochran. Ritchie had to borrow it for the movie. Hes also wearing Bob Keane's jacket.

  • The only known vid of Ritchie and, yes, he played a Strat. I don't know where that Gretsch came from.

  • thats CHUCK BERRY in the table...sick video

  • In La Bamba Ritchie is ripped but in the 50s he was fat ?

  • The black guy reminds me of Chuck Berry. Too bad they never got to play together, that would have been cool.

  • @HoboGus that is chuck berry its his own movie go johnny go

  • whats up with the elvis head at the end? haha

  • The way he says "ooh, my head". :D

  • cool

  • o my hair

  • You forgot to mention that the singer J.P. "the big bopper" Richardson also died in the crash. He known for the song "Chantilly Lace".

Also the pilot, Roger Peterson, died in the crash. He was only 21 years old.

  • This is one of the few of Ritchie Valens, Donald Fleming technician in computer graphics, color managed faithfully this video, it was a beautiful job, were it not for the clothes of 50 years, it appears that Ritchie is singing today, I posted the video here on my channel, Donald made me a beautiful homage to the artist who lost his life so young.

  • during this years become a star is a work and hard now in 2011 you juste have to say i need to be a star and you just have to sing a hugly song and bad and you are a pop fucking star. fuck the pop and say yes to the music

  • Oh my god this guy is amazing i wish he was still alive but life gots its ups an downs. So Ritchie valens let you RIP.

  • ain't that Chuck?

  • Its a shame that freed had to ruin the ending of the performence by speaking as he deperted the room.thats why its clipped.

  • he looks so matured for a teenager :-$

  • ohh my head then he lost half his head

  • Chuck Berry was groovin his ass off!! "Go Chuck Go!"

  • Is this actualy Ritchie Valens? I think this is the only footage of him I have seen. I cant belive he was only 17 when he died, he looked so much older. A true legend RIP.

  • @MOONST0MP Yes, this is. My mil was married at 16 in the 1950's and she looked alot older than 16.

Maybe it was the fashions. Who knows?

  • @MOONST0MP yeah youre right, this is the only footage that i have seen of him :(, is so sad only 17 years, but anyways i love his music <3, ritchie valens rocks

  • this was my cusin he was very nice i was told by my nana

  • Check out "Huckle-Berry" out at .10 with Allen freed. Rock History

  • szał !!!

  • What actually made this video more awesome is Chuck Berry jamming to it. HAHAHHA. Fuck I love that man.

  • So great that Led Zeppelin covered this song!

  • Got this movie on VHS. Very aloof and quickly made Rock'n'Roll flick to capitalize on the music. That being said, it's also one of the only movies you'll find these REAL legends playing on the screen. I may have been the only member of my family to sit thru the whole flick, but it's worth it because of the "rockers" in the film. Ritchie and Chuck are fabulous! Too bad the screenplay had to be so lame!

  • necklace?? think your seeing thing mate its is jumper lol

  • OMG this is so rare

  • why Elvis at the end?

  • @dejeankld wow your a cluck

  • dats not even ritchie

  • This is real music! Lady gaga and Justin Bieber sucks comparing to this

  • @9492180 her?

  • @TheChewyandnene meant him

  • Jumping Elvis dish at the end scared the living shit out of me.

  • @Carthsting

    lol! i know! so random!

  • @Carthsting lol

  • sikkkkk

  • i always thought he was playing eddie cochrans guitar here. but it cant be, no p-90?

  • @handjive58 He borrowed one of Ed's guitar for this scene. Could be be the p90. Fact. Ritchie and Eddie were good friends and they were both on location at the time.

  • watching this footage just scares me....I wish ritchie was alive :/

  • IMAGINE BUDDY..RITCHIE..ELVIS..EDDIE..CHUCK..JESSIE BURNETTE. IF THEY LIVED ALL ON STAGE ON STAGE TODAY!!!! ROCK AND ROLL ALL TIME ROCK CONCERT!!!!!!!!! WOW!!!!!!!!!! OOOHHH MY HEAD.

  • kinda eerie, he sings a song ooh my head and valens lost half his head when he died in the plane crash.

  • The girl in the middle is very pretty.

  • was that chuck berry @ 0:10 the left guy :D ??

  • @TheMicky101 Yes, it's Chuck Berry. The song comes from a movie "Go, Johnny, Go !"

  • @wertuqq Oh Cool thanks, I must see that movie :-)

  • GO JOHNNY GO GO!! His Title of the song gimme chills if you heard about his death losing half of his head.:( RIP

  • big bopper was also on the flight. why did you forget him

  • he said mony mony and peggy sue ain't gonna be around no more in his lyrics, wow then he went on tour and sang that LOL

  • Is that Donna sitting there in middle,by Ritchie? :')

  • Foi um grande cantor! (BRASIL).

  • Wow esto si es rock and roll , hasta Chuck berry lo disfruta miestras lo ve cantar , grande Ritchie Valens, eres genial.

  • what the fuck is evlis's face doing at the end lol, i always wondered.

  • Music breaks down the race barrier. In those days a black guy sitting at the same table as some white guys was not a common sight.

  • Why is that gay white man face on the end of video....elvis

  • @Jabicho914 Racist...

Elvis and Ritchie were both fathers of Rock

  • This had spice.

  • lucky richie was guerro. he snuck in there. lol

  • i just love this song ;d

  • so sad they died. Weird thing is, & I say this with great heed, is that it was almost like it had to happen. Where would rock & roll be without the great rock tragedies it has had? I don't believe everything happens for a reason but I do believe their deaths caused them to be an even greater influence to future musicians. Though I wish it had never happened.

  • Ritchie playing a Gretsch?

  • He is wearing the necklace bob ripped off in the movie

  • OMG HE IS! I TOUGHT THEY JUST MADE IT UP :D

  • He would've been a mega mega superstar bigger than the beatles

  • @Rx7Force101 Never.

  • Unbelievable...!

  • he is using Eddie Cochra's guitar

  • He looks so cool the way his playing that guitar!

  • elvis the king! ritche the prince!

  • Wow! Yet another song ripped off by Led Zeppelin and put on the Physical Graffetti album called Boogie With Stu. Naturally no credit was given to Ritchie Valens. Jimmy Page truly is scum. Fingers be damned. And look at him now - a soulless ashen shell waiting to be taken to hell. Ha-ha I just rhymed myself...

  • @hounddig they actually filed a lawsuit against them by Bob Keane and half of the award went to Valens' mother, although she was not part of the suit

  • Ritchie Valens lost half oh his head in the plane crash. Kinda Ironic

  • @OlympusProduction EEEEUUW!

  • Wow he was really cute, when I would see pics of him I would think his face was kind fat and wondered why they picked Lou to play him but he was pretty cute I guess he just wasn't very photogenic.....

  • @tabajara79 i think the actor that was chosen for la bamba was very well chosen he may not look anythink like him but he did a great job betraying the real ritchie valens even the family of the realy ritchie valens says so...

  • @Shanco4688I agree with you Shanco, but I think the word you want to say here is portraying, the word betraying really makes your statement different altogether. And it was his first movie I think!

  • wow cool rare video! Chuck Berry is lovin it lol!

  • What a very talented and handsome young man Richie Valens was. God Bless him.

  • sterai sempre nei nostri ricthie grazie ...per i ricordi e della musica

  • Genius!

  • He was left handed, but learned how to play his guitar right handed. It just shows how dedicated he was. Not many people can do that. Even McCartney gave up trying and restrung his guitar left handed.

  • @Missundaztood91 My supervisor was left handed, but learned to play the guitar right handed.

  • ~Cal!fornia greasers forever~

  • Not only he wrote great music he sang and could play that guitar like nobodies business. What happen to talent today? you can't find an artist that can do all three.

  • Awsome guitar solo

  • May God Bless those 3 wonderful talented gentlemen. Buddy Holly, Jiles Perry "The Big Bopper" Richardson. Not to mention the pilot who also perished on that fateful day. It's hard to believe it's been 52 years since that happened.

  • 52 years ago to this day...

  • R.I.P Ritchie Valens.

  • awesome video

  • 0:09 NOW THAT'S HOW YOU SNAP YOUR FINGERS! XD

  • Man.....the talent that went down in that plane!

  • this guy is a true fucken legend love his music

  • i love seeing this especially that this is thee only footage of him. iwould also like to point out that "High tone" was his one of his mothers name for being so vocal..also the guitar he uses in this scene belongs to the great Eddie Cochran rockabilly king! Ritchie used this guitar because his were being used in the studio while he was making his record. thank you for posting this video. i am only 28 but have listen to Ritchies music my whole life..

  • @SillyStrings5 I love the song High Tone. It was on youtube a couple of years ago by Ritchie.

  • hi-tone was his nick name!

  • For 100 dollars... what was Ritchie Valens' nick name?

  • @TheShadowFX

    hi-tone

  • @nemodapimpfish We've got a winner folks! :)

  • @TheShadowFX

ever since i was a kid ive been into this music. 24 now just got to see john muellers winter dance aprty last night. i had goosebumps thats how good and authentic it was.

  • Chuck Berry looks very good in this video (far left at the "men's table"). Its also great to hear his signature riffs via Ritchie's guitar. This is not mentioned with the idea of detracting any from Ritchie's stupendous talent.

  • I wish there was more footage of him or more color pictures. So sad that he died so young and the anniversary of his death is coming up February 3rd.

  • Mother Creator

    ~~ Loves You ~~

  • Is this only live footage of him :( ? That's so sad that we have so little from him :( He died too young for sure :(

  • This came from the movie: Go, Johnny, Go! - 1959

  • ESTE GRAN ARTISTA FUE ELIMANADO POR LOS AGENTES DE LA MUSICA CONSERVADORA AMERICANA YA QUE ERA CHICANO,LASTIMA POR ELLOS SE PERDIERON A UN GRAN ARTISTA Y DEJARON A LOS ARTISTAS JUDIOS COMO PRESLEY Y A OTROS BRITANICOS EN DESMEDRO DE LA POTENCIA SUDAMERICANA Y MEXICANA

  • Compare this great song with Little Richards 'ohh, My Soul' ...

  • I've been a Ritchie Valens fan all my life and tho' I have the record of this song, I NEVER saw the video. Thanks for this great glimpse of one of my favoriate all time stars.

  • Anybody knows chords for this ? I cannot find anywhere :( :( :(

  • Chuck Berry is on the left and Alan Freed is in the middle. In another part of this movie Chuck was playing 'Little Queenie' . Great! Does anybody know the the name of this movie?

  • shame about sound quality, one of the few white guys who didnt water down rock and roll when he actually played any properly. sounded as powrful as little richard on this one!

  • @gnowave He was Chicano pendejo.

  • @BabylonGenocide149

forgive my genuine ignorance buddy, what is "chicano pendejo"? being scottish, i am not familiar with some of the cultural terms you may walk every day!

i suppose my point was, he wasnt afro-american, as in general they were considered the strongest r&b, r&r, and gospel/soul singers around, and usually still are, due to their particular folk tradition in church, with the old village wise women still having a role to play. do tell me more?

  • @gnowave haHA! My man! Chicanos are what some of us Mexican Americans refer to ourselves as. Pendejo [to be takin lightly] means dummy, which is what I was calling you. I like the way you replied, that was the excitement in the beginning. And your history is correct mostly.

  • @BabylonGenocide149

ha! yeh, fair enough buddy! dummy, yeh, very funny! thanx for the info tho! means a lot! cool music huh?

  • @gnowave mhmm! The best. The Rat Pack, Chuck Berry, Billie Holiday, James Brown, Laurel Aitken etc etc etc.Legends! No problem on the info. Speaking of info, who are some legends from your side of the pond?

  • @BabylonGenocide149 well UK legends tend to be more underground as the "pop" charts are dominated here asd elsewhere by corporates. and that sux.

check here and now band, planet gong, undwerworld, orbital, led zep, drum club, the orb, stranglers, sex pistols, clash, sham 69, buzzcocks, magazine, nigel lewis, tho thse are all fairly modern, in 50s UK acts were too contrived and created in test tubes, and were really just5 middle class posh kids created by the labels. the best uk music is non-pop

  • @gnowave Aww man. I know them, well most of em anyways. Im gonna look up the rest though.

  • @gnowave he's mexican

  • @T4NKD13S3L

    cool! thanx for that buddy!

  • Dude, snuffed out soooo young, such a golden flame..... Who knows what magic he would've continued making as he got older......

  • (From Wikipedia about "Boogie With Stu") The final product was based on Ritchie Valens' "Ooh, My Head." Instead of crediting Valens as writer or co-writer, the song was credited to "Page/Plant/Jones/Bonham/Mrs. Valens/Ian Stewart". As Page explained:

What we tried to do was give Ritchie's mother credit, because we heard she never received any royalties from any of her son's hits, and Robert did lean on that lyric a bit. So what happens? They tried to sue us for all of the song!

  • @56ottoman interesting story. i always heard the connection of the two grooves (which went over most of my friends heads as they had a more narrow taste. but yeh a goopd solid groove. both boogie with stu form, and this form. and little richars use of it too, (oh my soul)

  • omfg...could you imagine...Ritchie and Santana...off the chart!

  • @In2TheNiteLife yep, would be very interesting, woulda given santana the rocket up the ass they sometimes needd. IF ritchie was able to inject the energy he shows above! for me this is his ultimate track.

  • THE BEST MUSIC video all time!

  • this is the only video i can find of him "live"...!

  • I wish ppl would SHUT THE FUCK UP ABOUT JUSTIN BIEBER!!!!!!!!!!!!! He is a guy, and he is a singer...WHOOPDIE-FUCKING-DOO! ENOUGH ALREADY!!!

  • @KristaDawn1985

I know! This is a page for Ritchie not some stupid kid who doesn't know what he's singing about!

  • 5 people stills thinking that Justin Bieber is a guy

  • you kno its so sas to watch this vid cuz n the plane crash half of his head was token off sad and he was only 17

  • if richie valens didnt die, Elvis wouldnt have been popular

  • @Emartinez72090 Yeah if he and Buddy and Eddie didn't die Elvis would not have been that big

  • @666Tormentor666 ELVIS was already big before any of those guys came about man.

  • @Emartinez72090 hmm, that a little naive friend. elvis had been well popular for years already. it would if anything be the other way round (i say this as no elvis fan in any way.) sun records where elvis sprnag from were well strong in the south, and many of the greats poured out of their little hick studio.

  • @Emartinez72090 (elvis began being popular in 1955, ritchi died, when? 59?)
