  • Yes. You have fried your hardware serial.

I have the same problem. Now I'm looking for a way to use software serial instead.

    Stay tuned.

  • Having the same problem with my new Mega. Where do I find a replacement chip?

  • WHAT!? the mega has no issues! jk

  • I've got a board with the same problem. Right after you click upload, hit reset immediately on your board. I didn't have a lot of luck with the IDE everytime i hit upload. However, when I compile a c program using winAvr and then use AVRdude to upload the program, the same method works very well.

  • Actually with the newest batch of mega's there was an incorrect cap placed on the reset line of the ftdi chip. once replaced with the correct size everything works fine.

  • Right, nice to know since I just got an Arduino Mega.

My diagnosis of broken serial output was due to the fact that this is how my Duemilanove behaved after I had misconnected the serial output breaking it. ;P

  • You've fried your serial output bro.

  • how do u do that? how can i prevent it when i get my arduino?
