It's to do with peak acceleration forces and inertia. If you wear a seatbelt, you are effectively slowed more gradually over distance (due to the seatbelt mechanism allowing progressive loading over sturdy areas of the body). Without it, your body is brought to a much more abrupt stop over a shorter area; with higher 'G' loading (an airbag only helps a little here-it's designed to work WITH a belt).

FYI: Princess Diana had no seatbelt on & died in the manner described in this video.

Dead person getting zipped up in a body bag at the scene of a car crash.

Keep the expression of the message simple. You'll still get the point across without getting too annoyingly nagging in the process.

Thinks adverts are scary and shocking. But THIS Think advert is the scariest and most shocking. I was at the cinema the other day watching the pre-film ads and we'd previously seen a hilarous advert before and everyone was still chuckling when this came on. When it finished there was just silence, a shocked and stunned silence. Just remembering the sound of the ribs cracking through the powerful speakers sends a chill down my spine. I will ALWAYS wear a seat belt, no matter what.

Technically no because seatbelts slow you down a bit as they stretch slightly, rather than stopping you straight away, as hitting the steering wheel would do.  Yes your organs would carry on moving but they would deccelerate over a longer period of time which would cause less trauma.

here in canada almost no school busses have seatbelts, and they say that the newer school busses are built so that it's safer to NOT wear one, because unlike a car the seats are close together, padded on the back, and strong enough not to crush on you when someone else slams into the back of it

so on the new school busses it's better to fly forwards and bounce back in that little space than be restrained at the lap and bonk your head really hard

but you shouldn't wear a lap belt on a modern compartmented school bus because even though it helps in a rollover it harms you in a frontal crash.

i'd send you the link of where i read this but youtube doesn't like URLs, but i also heard that the immense force created from a school bus crashing being put through a little seatbelt is a bad idea, so i guess they figure it's better to slam into the padded seat for some reason than to have a 3-point belt, i'm sure they've done tests with dummies
