The KENTONALUM was Mike Vax. Great trumpet. He did a lot of great work with bands in Europe after this gig.. Try Hungarian Border Guards Big Band. Sounds a lot like the KENTON band.
This is the year after I left the band. Trumpets are Dennis Noday, Mike Barrowman, Gary Pack, Paul Von Adam, and Mike Snustead. It is always a kick to see and hear all my friends from so many years ago.
I just love this song. I never get tired of hearing this great groove. It brings me right to the beaches in Cuba, palm trees, easy, laid back life style. Love it.
Mary Fettig. We went to high school together. She was a year ahead of me. We all knew she was on her way to great things. She is alive and well and living in the SF bay area, where she is playing a lot and teaching. I think she was off the band by the end of 1973.
I always enjoyed playing this tune whether on trumpet or when on the drum kit.. always a fun tune! Thanks! And thanks Kentonalum for chiming in!! Wow!!
The year was 1973. One of the features of this number was the flute playing of Mary Fettig. Incredibly good. Pleased to note that she is still making music and has released a couple of CDs.
Btw if you (Kentonalum) was in this band, who are you?

This video is not from 1976, as I am in the band! I think this one is around 1972 or 1973.
