  • I don't think he was catching up, it was just how he heard how to separate the phrases of a song. While Lester made the G-run popular, he got it from Clyde Moody who was a guitar player for Bill Monroe and worked in the Bluegrass Boys years before Flatt came along. Moody wrote the tune that Flatt & Scruggs popularized, "Six White Horses."

  • While many people consider Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs bluegrass players they considered themselves country musicians not bluegrass. Earl and Lester had a horrible falling out because although Lester for many years had no interest in finances he found out Earl's wife was taking an equal share of the profits for being their business manager. Earl did visit Lester on his deathbed and Lester wanted to play with him again, Earl agreed knowing there was no real chance it would ever happen.

  • He's my great great great.... great uncle lol... He died when I was 3 though

  • When I get back to my East Tennessee home from my current home in Oregon, I always go by Lester's grave and pay my respects, with Flatt & Scruggs playing on the car CD player sounding all over that graveyard.

  • Please let me know which facts were not correct, so I can correct them. Thanks!

  • Thank you for posting this clip.. I've never been there in all my travels..I'm a true traditional country bluegrass musician..Some of the facts weren't correct..however.. but never the less..great! thank you again.
