Don't say the government suppresses it. Do you really think any civilization advanced enough to master travel at the speed of light could be suppressed by anything on earth? Even if travel at the speed of light were possible it would still take centuries to travel to many of the galaxies that are visible. Millions of years for some.

1 the military uses area51 for building and testing expirimental aircrafts
