  • it was kind of sloppy. oh well

  • very talented lady

  • That was the shortest preludium ever!

  • @jdebruynviolin well it has to be short

1- she cant do her wole peice! she has to sve it for the show

2- theyve got 50 other girls that have to show their talent to America also in a short amount of time

  • Sorry but a Pretty woman should not play violin, and start moving crazy with the violin it would make her look weird and get eliminated in miss America.

  • she sucks

  • She's on tune but needs help with bow work. The tone quality is lacking (very scrunchy and sqeaky) and she keeps hitting other strings... Maybe slow it down a bit

  • pretty good but not the whole piece just exepts

  • I think as a beauty pageant girl, instead of trying to show off skills she clearly doesn't have (no offense, I know she tried) she should've done something more crowd pleasing like meditation de thais. That piece is not hard at all but a good player can make it sound majestic and captivate the audience. If she was a serious musician I think the performance but would've been better but if she's going to perform on TV, she should go for easy but crowd pleasing

  • a lot of mistakes!!!!

but is a good job for miss America!!!

  • Well done. Music is fantastic.

  • That sounded like a headache

  • I've played violin for 10 years, and I think she played this quite well. I just don't think this was the best piece for her. But like someone else said, she probably wanted to do a fast, showy, technical piece to make the most of her 90 seconds. And she was incredibly nervous and probs felt awkward having to play with a crown on her head lol. Her intonation obviously wasn't perfect, but I think y'all are being way too critical and imposing a double standard on the poor girl.

  • @xKattAttack. Lol "double standard on the poor girl?" Using another standard on a poor girl would be a double standard.

  • Sweet!!

  • and the crown didn't fall off...

  • I am shocked at the comments on this video!

When you do a talent in a pageant, you only get 90 seconds to show it off. For her to cut it the way she did, we still get the effect of the whole piece and I think she did a fabulous job. As for taking it slower, she's competing for Miss America people! As much as we classical musicians (I myself am a classical violinist) hate to admit it, this audience doesn't want slow classical mushy stuff, they are there to be entertained. Good Job Christina!!

  • @littlelaudie1 I'm a professional violinist from Brazil and I do agree with everything you've said !

  • She should have taken it a bit slower, but the nerves probably kicked in as well...

  • ew sounds like me when i play

  • well, this was a total mess.... she is extremely nervous, but I guess it's understandable..

  • i'm playing this piece now. it's actually really good, although she didn't play even close to the whole thing. and 2:03-2:15 was very out of tune.

  • @creepycrawlyify Yea, it is very out of tune, but you have to remember also that the news station wouldn't give up 6-7 minutes for her to play the entire piece.

  • Very nice.

  • Christina is beautiful, refined and can play a mean fiddle! Pagents can be spring boards to more opportunities; they take dedication, TOLERANCE and preperation. She proved to have the metal, character and talent to acheive a goal. If you want to scoff the acheivement...look in the mirror and tell us all what you've accomlished recently.

    Bravo Ms. Thompson.

  • Beauty pageants serve no valuable purpose. A waste of time and money.

  • Oh my God... this is not music- this is a scraping :D i dont understand anything...

  • she looks a bit daft with the crown on.

  • ..........

  • yeah ok sehs good but from 0:50 untill she finishes them sort of arpeggio thingys and around 1:30 it sounds horrible and all out of tune. not good :\

  • She's got a little recklessness/abandon that a player needs, though. Awesome. Kenosha represent!

  • well, her playing certainly isn't the best, but it really isn't bad. and it's rare that beauty pageant contestants are able to master an instrument to such a degree.

  • i think she was just nervous, but over all she has a very good technique and sound

  • not bad at all

  • shes good and i ♥ WISCONCEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Wow! That's really good!

  • uh...

  • And the winner is...

    Christina Thompson...

    Miss Intergalactic

  • pretty good

  • The Henny Youngman version. Yeah!

  • oooooooo........that is a very very very difficult piece. I admire her for learning such a hard piece but it was not at all performance ready. It was screechy and she was going way to fast for her level of experience. I think she would have had the audience in aw if she would have picked a less difficult piece (like angels serenade or something) and perfected it.

  • she doesn't have the, er, nicest sound, but i admire her for choosing such a difficult piece and performing it with conviction! lol

  • at 0:09 she look like brunette Britney Spears

Seriously.. Look reply if you want to.

  • I agree...!

  • you're right

  • Hey, y'know, compared to most beauty pageant contestants, she's a freaking Einstein.

  • ahaaaa, that spot near the beginning where she attempted a portemento, lmfao

  • woah...that was dirty. I cringed around 1:45. I learned this song when I was 10 and I played it faaaaar cleaner. She should have taken her time to at LEAST make it sound more polished. It's there, but not performance ready.

  • IM SO LOLING, this is just WIERD.

She made the piece hear like idk, practiced crap.

Preludium and Allegro by Kreisler and Pugnani.

she made a 10min piece to a 2min one, she killed me in the last 10 secs, dam thats wasnt not clean xO

But still, i admire her insistence.

  • This is one of my favorite pieces, and she kind of killed it. lol. But it's a really difficult one, and she didn't do that horribly. So I applaud her efforts!

  • what's the name of the piece?

  • not very amazing at best really im not imprest at all sorry :(

  • dude don't hate you most likely you can't even come close to what she can do!

  • This is amazing, but the crown really dose not go with her outfit

  • phhhht yea! lol go Miss WI! lol

  • dirty

  • I think she could have chosen a better piece. She's good, but I think there are much better pieces written by Kreisler that would have been more appropriate for this, like Liebesfreud.

  • Wow! Never expected something as deep as classical violin from a beauty pageant girl :) Congratulations to you, young lady, for breaking the stereotype!

  • @ViolinValia

    I agree completelly!!!!!

  • @ViolinValia

I hate the implication of this comment. Are you implying that all beauty queens are stupid or untalented? That is a narrow minded conclusion because the only thing most people usually think of or see in beauty queens is their beauty. However, many, if not most beauty queens have other talents than being able to look pretty. Many of them are brilliant students, wonderful musicians, and more. The stereotype is not made or broken by this group of young women, but by people like you.

  • @eunhaeg Unfortunately, most beauty pageants are first and foremost about beauty - not talents. Beauty is paraded, talents stay hidden, as if they are a shameful attribute to someone this beautiful.

I deeply respect this girl for being a positive example to young girls: you can be beautiful AND smart AND talented AND simply whoever you really are, because this is all you can ever be.

  • she can play allright! but the intonation was all over the place. she didn't show emotions at all (no concentration) just smile here and there. maybe her heart was not really on it.

  • She must have been really nervous though. Maybe she couldn't think about those things.

  • @Aponijohn Maybe that's just the Wisconsin culture. I'm from there. They're pretty reserved about emotions.

  • @Aponijohn haha i know shes not lol shes is pretending is a guys dick and she is giving him an hand job lmao

  • @leegallas thats not funny

  • Intonation......

  • Unbelievable!

  • PORAŻKA!

  • This just shows she has done more with her life than pageants ! ( not saying pageants are all bad , just saying wow she is good !)

  • Man she skipped alot of the good parts that are flashy for violin =(( she was struggling on spicatto also But I love the sound of her violin its lovely she plays good

  • This is a very talented musician. Year after year they cut the time allotted for talent more and more, and it's getting ridiculous. There is an echo on this tape, and there was some similar problem when she performed at Miss America. I'm beginning to think someone is deliberately sabotaging her.

  • Christina is a violin beast, AND she can sing. She's seriously one of the sweetest people you could ever meet, and I wish she would have won. :(

and I've heard her play live.. and it sounds way different than on tv. I feel like the mics made it sound worse than it really is.

Anywho, she's awesome, and I'm so happy to know her personally. (As well as current Miss Wis, and one of my great friends, Briana Lipor - ALSO amazing.)

  • what's with the crown;;;

  • that's because she is miss wisconsin?? bud still it looks stupid xd

  • haha wow, very much shortened version. I'm from wisconsin, i play violin, i'm fourteen and i'm just starting to play this piece. she's a great role model, no matter how cheesy that crown looked :)

  • ahh yeah but does she want world peace??

  • Im from wisconsin =) i bet she is way more inteligent than miss south carolina. pfft.

  • The infamous Miss South Carolina was in the Miss Teen USA pageant...Miss USA is completely different from Miss America, which is what Christina competed for (and was in the top ten, by the way). And yes, she was very intelligent and very talented.

  • Christina: After meeting you at the Institute I was curious about your Miss America sojurn so I Googled you and found this video. Very nice playing-almost as lovely as you! You should be proud of your accomplishments and the judges really messed up when they didn't choose you. Best wishes.

    PS.

  • shes really nice. at the miss.wisconsin pagent in oshkosh. after the pagent in the park plaza hotel she was up in the room where all the westside pagent people where, she was up there and i got to meet her, shes AMAZING!

  • i have to say shes an amazing violin player. (although others may not think so) She came to my school and talked to us and played.

  • sorry, she has the ability to be amazing, but her intonation is totally off!

  • even though there were cut parts, she could have still made it sound good, but she doesn't seem to have any musicality. although for a pageant type cituation this is prolly good enough for a talent

  • This was terrible. I saw the video on the pageant and I understood that she cut parts for a time limmit...but she played it the same here! It was terrible. The intonation was crap too!

  • Yea, she was just at my school today and thats what she played

  • She played that at my school today!!

  • Playing with the tiara on her head just looks plain cheezy...ROFLMAO!

  • is there anyway to save these videos. i would love to share this with my student because i teach orchestra but the school server blocks youtube.

  • the only way you would think that was good... is if you have no musical training or background.

i played that piece in 6th grade better than she did just now. it was pitchy all over the place. her bow arm as no flexibility which would explain how uncontrolled her spastic movements are.

  • Ditto.

  • As a Vanderbilt alum, I'm very proud with Christina's strong showing! In addition to this talent, her private interview is showcased on the interview tape. Only one of five contestants selected for the interview tape. And I loved that she wore Vanderbilt's school colors when she performed.

  • She was great and I wanted her to win but Miss Michigan was great as well.

  • she is sooo good! she makes it look so easy

  • She deserved to win Miss America!

    Miss Michigan's talent was AWFUL!

  • I so agree. I was so angry that she didn't win! Or a least get a scholarship.

  • I'm amazed with her talent over all. She should have been runner up for the over all competition.

  • it was ok. As a violinist studying at the Boston Conservatory, it was a little scratchy and not very controlled. Her bow arm needs some work but all together it wasnt horrible. She just needs to work more and it will get better.

  • yeah i dont think she appeared too worried about quality in this performance. she just wanted to look pretty while doign it. haha i read somewhere that she studied at vanderbilt as violin performance though so she is trained atleast.

  • agreed.

  • the second half was the best! before that she just seemed uninterested in the music lol

and the crown did seem a little weird. but her jacket was cute!!!

  • the crown just looks ridiculous. sorry. she plays ok, though.

  • bravissimo

  • That was great. And hell yeah Wisconsin rules. I wish all the babes here looked that good though. She certainly knows how to work those fingers.

  • Good gawd that was moving

  • wow

  • whoa

  • Wow, she's actually decent. I didn't expect that to be honest.

  • decent... then wat would u call amazing!

  • I know the state violin and piano champion of Wisconsin. SHE is amazing.

  • its amazing how she remembers all that! and it was soooo fast!

  • yeah 4 real

  • God, Wisconsin women are HOT.

  • darn right, that's why i live there
